That way the judges have someone to rip into for good reason. That way the people they will want as front runners, the story that they want for the season can come to life. It’s reality TV but that doesn’t make it real.

I think he wasn't really given a free pass there was jusy always someone who had a worse tattoo. Kind of like Rowland I think he name was in earlier seasons. He was probably the worst person ever on the show but didn't instantly go out because someone always messed up more. Main difference is Cam can actually do some tattoos that look clean

That alone should send you home (not to mention some other issues with the design as a whole). Cam got lucky there. His tattoo was worthy of being sent home but it always seems like someone just finds a way to make a bigger screw up and save him.

Janelles tiger/cheetah wasn’t even that bad? Def thought the owl was uglier at first glance and the lion looked wonky bc of the lack of mane. And Holli’s tattoos were sooo pretty? the koi was striking and the face was artful. the blending on that face was also gorgeous despite the irritation the canvas was experiencing. Cam should have 100% gone home there. The judges definitely have a hard-on for Cam i have no doubt about it.

I feel like they build frustration in the viewers on purpose by leaving in weaker links when it comes to tattooing so the viewer keeps coming back to watch it in hopes they kick the person out. And they also build that hope up by putting those people so close to the elimination a lot of times. I've seen this happen so often in reality shows that it has me thinking it's a tactic of a sort to get more views for a longer amount of time. The goal of all of this is us watching it. I don't put manipulative techniques above them tbh.

Something they didn’t point out in Fon’s tattoo is that the back hooves are backwards. The round side faces forward like he did correctly in the one visible front hoof. Honestly it was a tough design and showed his dependence on having a reference. Photos of the bottom of hooves are taken from behind. He didn’t change the orientation to accommodate for the forward facing view point.

So I assume, based on your comment, The 1st part of this season (or last episode), the judges were in Bizarro World filming; because ALOT of talented dudes were sent home instead of 1 chick in particular from episode 2-9. [Exception of episode 8] And for b.s. reasons even too! Didn't matter if they followed the given instructions per contest or had the strongest of the 3 people up for elimination with a "pro" vouching for them. Cam’s sacred heart was actually my favorite of the three. Dani’s eagle was dreadful she was definitely capable of better work but I don’t think any client would want that if they had to choose between the three. Jason’s portrait was also not as bad as they tried to make it out to be, I would be proud to wear that if that was my dad. Please reboot the show with more diverse judges and cast to showcase just how far tattooing has come to the mainstream!

Okay her eagle was bad, but she was barely on the bottom compared to Cam. Sometimes they get someone sent home due to how many times they were on the bottom and Cam has been multiple times compared to Dani who was usually never on the bottom.

Sometimes, you have to keep in mind that they’re judging on multiple facets, rather than just one. Out of the two artists, Cam definitely deserved to go home. Him being a shitty person aside, his work just isn’t great and his report card on the show shows it. There’s a reason that skin trauma gets people sent home a lot. On the subject of a reboot, I agree and think that this is actually more likely than we think. Paramount announced that they’re reviving the show, which is great. They’re definitely not bringing back Oliver; the show & the network have totally written him off. No clear sign that Nuñez would come back if they ask him, same with Navarro. I could definitely see them pulling in other top figures in the industry & past Ink Masters to serve as the new judges

Portraits that show teeth never work. If someone asks you to draw/ paint a portrait from a photo, ask for one with no teeth showing if possible, it looks less like its been traced from a photo.

In Fon's defense, while using multiple photo references where you take maybe one or two elements from to combine it into your own sketch is A THING that is generally done, he probably didn't have the time to actually do that research. Because I'm sure he could have found multiple references that together would have worked for his design if he had the time. Not having a perfect memory of all poses ever or the ability to imagine things perfectly in 3D is NOT a requirement to be a good artist.
