Totally. And it's totally worth it. I can't do much more than just skate forwards - no backwards, no tricks, no stair rolls - but even I got a "How do you do that?" from a kid recently. Made me smile.

Learning that you'd never skated before age 37 was a big deal to me. I started about two months ago, at age 60, also with no previous experience. I'm so inspired to see the level of competence you attained in such a short period. Maybe at my age I should have reasonable expectations for my own development. But being unreasonable has gotten me this far... I see that you don't have plans to post more, but your channel is a goldmine in its current form. Your instructional videos break things down into steps as good or better than the pro videos I've paid money for (i.e., demonstrating what it looks like when things go wrong!). I thank you for this terrific work. Bravo.

Just found your channel, nice work! I bought my first pair of inline skates about 25 years ago, but never really got into it. They've lived in a box ever since. During lockdown my daughter wanted to try my sisters old blades and I dusted mine off. Scared myself shirtless! So I decided to master them and at 46 am loving getting into it. Cheers for your channel 🤙

It’s braking techniques that’s hardest for me, and I’ve definitely been riding the inside edge way more. I need practice. I bought fitness skates for leisure riding, been using them for fitness and street hockey practicing.That’s a mistake. Only when I’m rolling without pushing do I ride them straight up. Making sure you Don’t ride one edge is critical, as well as choosing the right skates and wheels. Don’t forget knee, elbow, And wrist pads as well!

Great video as always. It takes plenty of time and purposeful practice to become a skillful skater - it really helps that rollerblading is such an enjoyable thing to practice! On an unrelated note: A while ago we talked in the comments about the squeaking noise intuition liners make. Did you ever find a remedy for that issue?
@whittyskater3 жыл бұрын
No they still squeak! Didn't really want to try any oil or lubricant in case it ruins them so I just put up with the noise.

I both skate and train dogs as a hobby. Anecdotally, I find the dogs that react this way are simply over excited and under handled but as a human if I saw WHITTY rolling through my park I would probably start running after him barking from excitement too. In my mind the dog is just subscribing and commenting IRL. hehe.

Well, I'm still skating just about, still learning, progress is very slow as I don't get much chance due to a busy lifestyle & have to skate on a smooth surface as my rolling & scissor actions are not confident movements & due to that, at the moment it's s little but of fun but I am more screaming within from fear of falling even though I have all the padding one person could possibly wear ...... Hopefully I will overcome the fear & get it but I'm not holding my breath lol ..... It is one of the most difficult things I have ever attempted ..... totally alien to me currently!! 🙈🙈🙈

REKD knee gaskets. Love them. Perfect for what I need. Comfy and fairly slim fitting but offer enough protection in a fall.

You forget to mention one crucial factor - you get nowhere if you have wrong skates. I'm skating since my childhood and now I'm 26 but the only progress I've started to see was after I switched from fitness skates to agressive ones. My heels are finally properly secured inside the boot so I have the necessary control to even skate forward for longer than a few kilometers. It was not possible to me before.

Hey man quick question , my first pair of skates were 2018 fr1s and im going buy another pair of rollerblades this weekend , how would you compare the fr1s to the rollerblade twister x ? Which pair do you prefer ? For slalom i plan on buying a pair of igors and willl use either fr1 or the twister x for city skating / indoors until i get the igors

I will add that practice does not make perfect. Practising the wrong method is damaging. I had that problem when learning to ice skate. After 3 years I took lessons, and I had to relearn everything, as I had got the basic techniques wrong, even though people were telling me I was a very good skater! I don’t skate locally, the roads are appalling (half inch stones half embedded in asphalt) and I hate skating near cars and random non skaters. Tennis courts for me!
