This is an excellent point regarding hand positioning in the downswing. They must be kept close for optimal speed and control. Provided the path is correctly from the inside.

Yes you can 'turn the corner' and still have the club approach a bit from the inside. If that's the preferred shape.

I've got all the mechanics of the backswing working but I would like to know the mechanics of shallowing the club checkpoint to checkpoint through the downswing so I can picture the shallowing with the club in every position through to the ball. I've pretty much got the swing path figured out except for the shallowing and because of that still have a baby slice. I am very thankful for all the great information your channel has provided me with and it would be wonderful if you could help me with this crucial shallowing piece of the swing puzzle. Thank you Steve.
@Inmotion70

There are several factors that contribute to shallowing. Maintenance of posture, external rotation of the humerus, proper hand path, and more.

One tip that I believe helps me shallow the driver and keep the hands on the path you're talking about is to keep my right forearm facing up from the beginning of the downswing. This also keeps my right elbow tucked in. Does that seem consistent with the hand path you're advocating?

Thank you Steve, I have commented a number of times to many of your videos. The driver is my greatest struggle. I really struggle with a pull hook, I have recently developed a push right as well. I generally follow Shawn Clements methodology in the swing at least as it relates to momentum in my swing but I have tried so many different methodologies it would make you dizzy, and always the same problem a pull hook to just an over hook. I will get to the range tomorrow.

This pattern suggests closed face. Fix the clubface first. Check grip, clubface at address and film yourself DTL and send it to me trimmed to 3 seconds Steve@hititlonger.com

A face on view would be helpful to see where the hands are when as the head makes the turn to the ball into contact.

For almost every full shot your lead hand should be just off your lead hip.

I think this is the missing component to that leverage I feel on my best drives. I keep chasing that feeling of leverage but was unsure where it came from. Can't wait to get to the range. Thanks so much

Love that explanation of "swinging left". What's missing, and seems to be always assumed, is, what actually moves the hands or the handle, from a good top of backswing, down to waist high with the shaft "shallow" enough that I can allow the handle to go left? I stay in posture, don't flip, the hands drop pretty straight down, but my right elbow seems to be the last thing moving in the downswing. It comes down behind me a bit, standing the shaft up. I rescue it enough for a zero path, but hands are high and arched down. Straight shots, but all effort and no whip. What should be moving in a proper transition, and what does that feel like?
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 Жыл бұрын
I just taught a student today with what sounds like the exact issue. Your handle is going vertically 'behind you' from the top right? You could try a noodle or headcover right on the lead hand to keep the shaft lower through impact...it might have a dramatic effect on the downswing in order to conform. The lead arm has to swing out towards the ball more on the plane.

Hi Steve how does your swing work if you come from the Moe Morman single plane style. I have grooved that for 5 years. I need more distance though. I have absorbed and blended your pec grab and lead foot lift and wrist snapping. 15 more yards and feels like less effort too. So any insights or shall I buy the training you suggest? Thanks Steve.

My range sessions from now til spring will be on getting the butt to stay on the wall/chair in order to even have a chance to exit left with my hands.
@Inmotion70

Yep it keeps your chest rotating and clears the way for the hand path to keep arcing.

Hey Steve, I noticed your lead heel moves backwards during your weight shift. Is it to allow for an easier hip turn? Is it conscious swing thought?

Steve I love your channel thanks. Can I point you in the direction of Marcus Edblad on youTube ?- he's an ex Swedish long drive champion, early 50's, hits well over 300 yards - his thoughts and yours are very similar, esp throw from the top and really early release with the driver. He cites you, Mike Austin and Mike Malaska as top teachers. I have learned a lot from both of you, many thanks

It is a more advanced and complex idea. Just remember that once you're ready to get really good, or if you''ve stopped improving, the hand path is what keeps most people from really getting good.
