I can recall water skiing behind my dad's 14 ft runabout with a 35 hp Johnson outboard on the Colorado river in the 1960's... Somewhat meaningful...
@vmcmark75783 жыл бұрын
My tutelage was upon lake Shasta, same boat & H.P. Dad skied behind it but could ""ONLY"" get ""UP"" on a single ski by shore starting, 75 foot rope with 30+ feet coiled up in front of him, 1 foot in the front binding, stand on the other, ankle deep, holler ""HIT IT"", mom puts the throttle in the corner, the ""OBSERVER"" leans as far forward as possible, the lil boat that ""COULD"" screams out as the boat just starts to plane, the last coil of rope is unwinding and dad gently & gracefully steps off the bottom of the lake as the last bit of slack is gone, steps up onto the single ski that he has been holding flat on top of the water & pulls the rope inwards towards his chest and leans back to compensate for the enormous pull of 1000 pounds of boat & motor accelerating away from AND with him firmly ""IN TOE"", with the non ski foot dragging its toes to help balance out the mass as it works to getting up to the speed required to stay on top of the water at which point the toe dragging foot slowly and directly slides over and into the ""HALF BOOT"" rear binding of the ski & so goes another perfect shore launch and now starts the real fun part, snapping turns & jumping the entire wake, left side......right side......repeat......all the while knowing that if he was to fall, there is no ""DEEP WATER START"" to allow him to continue with his small slice of heaven, the smooth calm flat waters of a very late afternoon ""SUNSET ROOST"" at GOOSE NECK COVE, LAKE SHASTA, CALIF. As to my ""EFFORTS"", 2 was easy, 1 was fun & as I grew up and got ""BIGGER THAN THE BOAT COULD PULL"" I learned to let the ski lean ""HARD"" on the tow rope and used it as a way to stabilize the normal ""SLOW SPEED WOBBLE"" that a single ski ""WILL HAVE"" at a launch without enough H.P. or speed to make things easy or quick. Using the rope in that fashion almost acted as an extra ""OUT-RIGGER"" if you will, that and a ""VERY DEEP BREATH"", handle pulled back into my chest after the initial ""YANK"", leaning forward like a ski jumper trying to get out over his tips in a fashion to try and get the ski ""UP ON TOP & FLAT"" creating the very least amount of drag as possible to help those screaming 35 horses get me and the boat up to the perfect speed so that I could try to copy all of dads antics & mostly got schooled in the fine art of knowing when to let go of that handle/rope to help the coming impact with the water to be as painless as possible and having the handle SNATCHED out of ones hand while crashing is something that you don't want to repeat very many times so you get a ""FEELING"" and then you just ""KNOW"" that you blew it & if you let go now, all that will happen is that you will sink with the ski still on both feet rather than trying to save it and end up (down) tumbling along and swimming for the ski that you now have to get back on to your feet while you are being held afloat by a ""SKI BELT"", nothing like the center of ""FLOTATION"" being around your waste trying to put you in a prone position ""ON TOP OF THE WATER"" rather than the ""HEAD UP"" fashion that a full vest always left you in. LIVING LIFE AS & WITH THE FAMILY, ALL IN THE FAMILY, THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!

JR_113 - the bags on that thing should wear out before at least 66k+ miles. Lowering it and driving around with the trailer pointing down like that increases the risk of it hitting something and getting snagged. Plus it looks stupid, like they couldn't afford a full lift kit.

Independently both the truck and the boat are the pinnacle of bad taste but when bound together they become something greater than the sum of their parts. Early Cuyler would be proud.

"At full throttle and averaged across makes and models, those engines burn about one gallon of fuel per hour for every 10 horsepower (hp)" so fuel consumption is about 270 gallons/hour, or about £1328.4 per hour at full throttle at UK petrol price
