If an officer ever calls fire rescue in front of a hospital not only should they pay that bill but they should be sued by the city on behalf of taxpayers. These officers are not going to learn until they start paying for their mistakes.

Several months ago my gf was having a medical emergency. We were about 5min from the medical center so I decided it would be faster than waiting for ambulance. There was about 3-5 lights between us and the hospital. I ran through the first one (it was night time and I could clearly see no other crossing cars). The officer parked nearby I didn't even see turned his lights on. I pulled over and he pulled to the side (seems he realized something was up) and pulled his window down. I said my gf is in the back with a medical issue and I'm heading to the ER. No other questions asked he said follow me and escorted me with his lights on through the next few lights to the ER entrance. THAT IS HOW YOU PROTECT AND SERVE.

My 4th pregnancy was filled with complications and I was in and out of the hospital. So much that my dr had a plan in place any time I would come to the ER. Yep, I was in labor with my second in Cumberland County, NC and we were trying to get to the hospital. My then husband made a move that drew the attention of the police. He walked up and saw me and told my husband to follow him. He took off down a road I think was still blocked for construction, but just the finishing touches were left. The road was complete. It surprised my husband. Anyway, it got us there probably 20 minutes sooner than the detour with all the traffic on it. And that's how it should be done.

There's a reason they were demanding, not asking, but DEMANDING the paramedic "clear" the woman. They wanted to take the woman, and her husband, to prison and wanted the paramedics to claim the man was lying so they could step up the abuse. Sadly, I've seen this behavior before. I was a bystander, but I was rendering first-aid until the paramedics could show up, and the cop that showed up first was being a real . What happened was I was out walking Gigi, that's my Corgi mix pup, and an adult on a bike fell. It looked like the chain on their bike snapped. It happens sometimes, and I've fallen because of that before. Anyhow, the cop showed up first and then started accusing the guy of being "a drunk", the guy hit his head and was acting oddly, and when paramedics showed up, the cop got really nasty toward them and even threatened to arrest the if they didn't release the injured guy to his custody. Long story short, the injured guy was put in the ambulance, not the squad car, the squad followed the ambulance, and I don't know what happened after that. No the guy from the bike wasn't wearing a helmet, and yeah he hit his head pretty hard. I'm just glad, as a prepper, that I tend to carry a full first-aid kit in my purse. Yeah I know, sounds odd and makes my purse heavy, but it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Though at the time all I really had on hand to help was a few thick gauze pads for him to hold against the cut on his head, and me there to talk to him to keep him awake until help arrived.

That's typically what all departments do, specifically they try and withhold body cam footage for as long as possible to deter public outrage when it is released usually a year later. Their excuse is usually we are investigating the situation and therefore cannot release the footage at this time. Then a year or two later they determine no wrongdoing has occurred and hope everything blows over. Lackluster recently released a video of a man being assaulted and arrested for saying "be nice" to an officer that was being extremely rude to a lady. The prosecutors refused to prosecute anyone and internal affairs determined the officers did nothing wrong. Which goes to show how little police accountability we have around the U.S.

I was a paramedic and there are a lot of red flags here. The way that cop said they checked her out and she "was fine" is completely insane. No paramedic in any country has the ability to see if a woman is having a miscarriage! We literally take them to an obstetrician who will make that call with an ultrasound, blood tests, and a decade of proper training, not 2 seconds seeing a patient and taking their blood pressure which was probably elevated by the stress of the situation. That cop prolonging a medical situation in front of the ER and trying to cover his ass by calling for paramedics instead of letting her go to the ER should absolutely be a lawsuit. That was retaliatory and escalated an already bad situation for that poor family. Glad that everything worked out for them, hope that cop is held accountable

I mean...if the driver had just done what he is legally obligated to do, i.e. provide his license upon demand of a police officer during a traffic stop, the encounter wouldn't have escalated. Like it or not, pretty much every state requires drivers to provide their license upon demand of an officer during a traffic stop, and drivers agree to that requirement when they sign the paperwork to obtain their license. (I imagine this is true in all states, but I've not checked the code of all 50 states to know for certain. Every state I have checked, however, does include this requirement.) Traffic stops are *_NOT_* the same as other police encounters. You actually don't have any right to drive a vehicle on public streets / roads / highways, and you are held to certain requirements to exercise the _privilege_ to do so. You agree to those requirements when obtain a license. If we want to have a conversation about whether or not that should be the case, I'm all for it. But until the laws change, you still have to provide your license upon demand of an officer during a traffic stop...even if you don't agree with the stop or if the officer doesn't immediately tell you _WHY_ you were stopped. In some states, police are required to tell you why you were stopped (including Florida), but they aren't required to tell you before you are obligated to display your license. I've been pulled over quite a few times in my 27 years of driving, and I've _never_ had a cop escalate the situation like this...because I understand that I'm required to provide my license during a traffic stop, and I do so without argument. if the cop asks me if I know why I was stopped, I always tell them, "No sir / ma'am," and leave it at that. in those many traffic stops, I've been given two speeding tickets, and none of them have lasted longer than it took the cop to check my driver's license and license plate, write the ticket / warning (if one is issued), return my document(s), and tell me to be safe. I've never once "bowed down completely submissive." There are plenty of shitty cops out there doing shitty things, and this interaction is clearly one of those incidents...but not because the cop demanded the driver provide his license during a traffic stop. The driver refusing to meet his legal obligation and the remainder of the cop's actions throughout the encounter are what made it a shitty encounter. The driver could have simply told the officer he was trying to get his wife to the ER on her doctor's orders, provided his license (as required by law), and asked if he could escort his wife to the ER and then return to continue / complete the traffic stop. Even a cop in his feelings (as this one clearly was) would probably have allowed that, and probably would have let the driver off with a verbal warning.

i was SEETHING at the panning from the cop and EMS to the ER entrance - like bros feelings were hurt SO bad he really had to waste actually valuable government resources and time to make an excuse for this encounter and his poor behavior. OUTSIDE OF THE ER. KNOWING EMTs CANNOT DO MUCH AND THE DRS THAT CAN ARE. RIGHT. IN. THERE. acting like he's doing a service for her and showing concern by getting EMS - he's delulu asf there's a very clear answer to how all of this should have worked out since the beginning, and he chose the wrong action every time. there was a certain level of rage and disgust at his behavior, and every single decision made it worse and worse - how tf are ppl like him still cops 🤢😡

At that point it was clear the officer had lost all sense of perspective.
