Shady telemarketers have been calling around about your car's "extended warranty" for quite a while now, and this time around they just so happened to mess with a Shefska. Ray and Zach take this opportunity to break down the call itself and warn everyone out there not to fall for these scams!

Endurance is known in the industry as a scam. Many shops will not honor it and they do not pay claims. They make it very difficult.

The rule 100% of the time is that only extended warranties sold by the manufacture though a new car dealer for your vehicle are valuable. For example Honda sells HondaCare. All the rest will have too many exclusions to be worthwhile including CarEdge. Unless the extended warranty is approved and backed by the Manufacture for your car, it is a waste of money.

Some company tapped my elderly mother for $4k for an extended warranty on her 3 year old Kia which still had 7 years of warranty left. Fortunately she used a credit card so we were able to get it back.

My Uncle owned a repair shop in Sikeston, MO for decades. He would get so mad when elderly clients came in with extended warranties. Most of these warranties paid very little towards any major repair. Worse is most of the cars that came in were older and paid off. The repairs needed were sometimes major (timing belts, cv shafts). The owners of these cars might get $100 towards a $1500 repair...had they just saved the money they paid for the warranty they could have easily paid for the repairs.

agree 100% with your uncle. Plus, it's annoying dealing with the poors who need a "warranty" on a low chance of a low four-figure repair. You can't self-insure a few thousand bucks, remove all uncertainty and hassle, and 95% of the time come out financially ahead? only the poors.

Don't buy any extended warranties period. Also don't pay any junk fees from the dealer and that includes the Doc fee which is a taxable fee and also junk.

@@michaelkendall662 OP's point is that you don't have to pay it. It wouldn't matter if a state ALLOWES it, so long as the state doesn't REQUIRE it. When I buy a car, I don't care about any fees, just the bottom line. The dealer is free to add any "fees" that makes his little heart go pitter-patter, but he's going to have to lower the selling price to compensate because I'm negotiating bottom line.

@@michaelkendall662 Huh? I've already stated I'll pay any fees because I'm negotiating the bottom line, not all the line items above. I don't care how the dealer apportions the price. If I've decided I'm paying $62,000 before non-taxable fees and sales taxes, I don't care if it's $1 for the car and $61,999 in mandatory dealer fees, or the other way around. It's the same $ 62,000 to me. And that $62, 000 will include any dealer installed options I don't want. You're approaching the problem from the direction the dealer wants you to. Now you're going to have to negotiate every line item, and by the time you get to the bottom line you'll be so exhausted and will have invested so much time that you'll agree to almost anything to get it over with. Go ahead and have at it if you want. My way, if the dealer won't negotiate an acceptable price, walk ( your "you WILL pay it or NO car" comment suggests you're willing to give the dealer the upper hand in negotiations, whereas I want the dealer to want my business and fear me walking). There are plenty of dealers out there. And yes, it means you're going to do some homework so you know what the dealer paid for the car, any manufacturer incentives, and any supply issues (which this channel addresses regularly), so you know what a realistic low-end price will be. And yes, the sales manager will probably get involved because most sales people have limited authority and sales managers are probably harder to negotiate with, but if you're negotiating bottom line, you don't care.

I had one of these companies call me to extend my warranty. I told them I owned multiple vehicles and asked which one they were talking about. They said they couldn’t disclose that information because it was “confidential”. They heard a dial tone soon after that.

I went in to buy a used 2017 honda pilot the other day. The salesman told us that we HAVE to purchase the $299 security system that already came with the car. Also we must pay for Celijet that was applied to the vehicle. They refused to drop those warranties. We walked out.

I still get "calls" where these clowns offer me an extended warranty for 2013 Subaru Outback that I haven't owned in 8 years. Mostly I hang up but I have toyed with a couple of the knuckleheads by asking him/her to read to me the specific coverage components . Then I feign that I misunderstood something then ask him/her to please start again but this time slower. Then after they go through their spiel I tell them I no longer own the car but it was good to know my options.

We used to take a break at work and see how long we could keep these people on a call. Anyone who got called, we'd go into a conference room and put them on speaker. I've never laughed so hard at times. We also had test credit cards - so we'd use those when we would go pay for something.

Was with this company for about 6 months. I had a belt tensioner break causing $1500 worth of damage. After many weeks of my shop going back and forth with them they denied the claim because it was allegedly caused by a broken bolt.

Thank you for all this information on warranty scams. I don't get phone calls, but I do get literature through the mail all the time that my extended warranty is about expire. Hmmm! I never got an extended warranty in the first place, so how can something expire that I never got. Kind of what Zach is describing. I just pitch the mail immediately into the garbage can. I used to get extended warranty calls all the time. I stopped picking up the call when I didn’t recognize the number and put myself in the ‘do not call’ registry. I no longer get these call. I don’t understand how people, even if older, get duped by these fraudsters.

Never...repeat never answer a call from an unkown caller. Always let that call roll to a voice mail system. Never create the voicemail outgoing message with your own voice. Always use the generic outgoing message that's available in the voicemail system. If you answer the call scammers can record your voice and use it to gain access to your financial accounts. Also cover or disable all cameras associated with your computers. Hackers can obtain a face photo and use it to open any facial recognition accounts you have.

Even at a dealership, if the company offering the coverage is not the same as the vehicle you are buying, you will NOT be covered for ANYTHING! They have a way to weasel out no matter what is wrong with your vehicle. If you buy a vehicle from manufacturer "X", then your ONLY option is a warranty sold by manufacturer "X" Otherwise you as only buying a good feeling followed by a huge disappointment like I had.

We were getting a call about a vehicle we never even owned. They said a 2013 Dodge Durango. I asked them since when does the factory charge for a factory warranty. Just a word salad response. After I asked where they are and what business license and who their under writing insurance is. No calls anymore.

I work for the gov't at a facility where we get phone calls from many different area codes, therefore we have to answer every call. We frequently get calls for siding estimates (our bldg. is about 80K sq'.), replacement windows, etc.. One of my co-workers got an extended warranty call and decided to have some fun. After the usual intro, he told them he had a 2019 Millennium Falcon. The salesman laughed and said how many parsecs on it? It was refreshing to find one of these people with a sense of humor.

I get these all the time. If I happen to be driving and have time to mess with them I tell them I'm driving a 1972 VW Super Beetle (my first car) with approximately 600,000 miles on it but I'm not really sure how many times the 5 digit odometer has flipped, they hang up on me. Or, I ask them which car as I have several, and force them to tell me which car, which they can't because it's just a scam, and they hang up on me. Either way, it can be fun.

We bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid (2022), we are retired octogenarians, we drive approximately 6000 miles per year. We are constantly getting mail and phone calls about our warrant expiring(after 1 year we have 9376 miles on it because we lived in FL and made a couple of trips to TN las summer) so we haven’t even gotten to our 2nd free service yet. We have the factory 36/36 bumper to bumper warranty plus the 5/60,000 mile power train warranty, don’t these idiots have any common sense?

They used to call on my number looking for my son and he was 12 to 14 during the time they would call and when I would point out that it was illegal to enter into a contract with a minor, he switched to me. I would just laugh and hang up. Now if I think it's a spam caller I answer, Attorney General's office how may I direct your call, they hang up.

I figured it out it’s a scam hoping to sell a fake warranty just to drain your bank account. Thank you so much for video. I received scam warranty calls for my new 2023 corolla cross L. Question: got recall notice to take car to dealership for passenger airbag problem. Concern if I take car to dealership they may break something else to get $$$$. It took 5months to get car. No financing : by that I mean had credit union agree to finance and week later paid off car.Had car since January 2023 should I take risk of dealership inspection? Sorry if this reads very cynical of dealerships. Appreciate your advice.

Matthew, I get it, however Zach and Laura who has a car live in Washington DC, so he uses public transportation, Uber and his bicycle most of the time to get around.

They don't pay any attention to the manufacturer warranty date, or basically ANY date. I own a 2002 truck, that I got from my sister, I (obviously) didn't have a warranty. But my scammer said "your manufacturer warranty is about to expire", personally I've never heard of a warranty that lasted +/-17 years. But I guess mine was about to expire, oh no!

You can hear the salesman get all excited, he's got a live one on the line! 😂 Also kind of funny how the video is about extended warranty scams, but then advertised buying an extended warranty through Car Edge... 🤔😉

My mother who bless her heart who was suffering from dementia got warranty calls daily from the scammers. She bought three of them for the same Toyota Prius V which is the most reliable car Toyota makes. I had to threaten law suites against each the companies before they would break the contracts after we sold her vehicle. The extended warranty companies are rotten to the core.

Here is a real good one. My wife has never owned a car nor has a car ever been registered in her name. Yet she is constantly contacted about her car warentee redy to expire and she could get a great deal to renew now so she is not without a warentee.

I keep getting calls like this even though I don't own a car......and keep going like I haven't said anything....lol.
