I've been saying since day one that hand tracking just needs little haptic bracelets. The tiny bit of rumble from the controllers is a game changer. When it's not there you notice.
@redwraith65762 жыл бұрын
For me the Route is more for haptic gloves that also work as Controller. This will get you and incredible immersion and I think they will become more and more consumer based also thanks to the community which is building their own gloves.
@hughmanwho2 жыл бұрын
Could be interesting though if the input was this, then haptic gloves were purely used for output. Could be an extra accessory that way and perhaps better because sensors aren't needed on it.
@redwraith65762 жыл бұрын
Yes another possibility. Using it as a remote to device together with several Accessoires. As Eric said ar classes, haptic gloves and perhaps as a remote for your TV. But I think it will be rather expensive, while haptic gloves ars getting cheaper and the sensor for the Finger movement are no big issue. You can build one glove for around 40 to 50 bucks if you have a 3d printer and the skills.

This looks awesome for augmenting existing sensors for finer control, especially for partial occlusion scenarios.

I think Meta is right here. Something that doesn't limit your fingers, doesn't need to be in the view of headset cameras and still provide input from fingers movement? Cool and practical. Pair this with AR glasses, and you have a very functional AR system. I would use this when riding on my EUC, for example, where my hands are free.

A friend of mine is missing 3 fingers since he was born, and the neural bracelet would absolutely help someone like him to be able to type and play games. The wrist band could also be used to drive a robot hand, Luke Skywalker style, to give my friend his missing fingers, or maybe help other people such as amputees. This is seriously cool tech. All the best, Rich in Sweden.

VR key to mainstream success is to create games that are actually good. I appreciate every single person who is out here developing but we need more AAA stars pushing out high quality products. I bought the first Oculus Quest close to launch and i feel like since then, no games have come out to warrant continuing play.
@nameless30372 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of great games out Contractors, After the Fall, RE4, In Death and more I think that's more of a personal thing of not playing the right games.. As far a triple A studios, it's still uncharted territory for them, and a big risk that theyll inevitably screw up. I feel like VR is probably better off with its own dedicated developers who are learning over time.
@qtcollect46082 жыл бұрын
VR already has that, (Half Life Alyx, Asgard's Wrath etc.) the problem is those games are in PCVR, which is expensive, a huge pain in the ass to setup and very finnicky. That's why no one cares about those games. (This is why I'm doubting PSVR2) We need AAA Games IN Accessible Hardware, not just anywhere. It's very tough to do on the Quest 2 tho because it's just not powerful enough.
@ten10_ten102 жыл бұрын
Well, concerning privacy it will probably be about as invasive as hand tracking is. I can't imagine that you'd get much more data from this than you could with basically any other form of input or control. They're probably not going to be able to read your mind until they get closer to the head area.

Even after more than five years of using VR, I still find I sometimes need motivation to just put on the headset. So, I completely agree, the less friction the better. Also, hope your kid gets better! 👍

I think smaller/minimalism will be the financial backbone of VR, but bigger accessories with a focus on immersion will be for enthusiast users.
@DerivitivFilms2 жыл бұрын
I def agree with the minimalistic point. I got WMR (back in the day) simply because I couldn't stand the idea of the lighthouses and towers. All that setup made it unappealing. Same with full body tracking and haptics. I'd much rather have cameras on the controllers, than having to "SUIT UP" to play a video game, strapping on special shoes and vive trackers and vests, no one got time for that. The less setup the better, the less time it takes from jumping in to starting a game the better. Simpler and ease of use is the most important thing. More complicated setups can be left for the hardcore enthusiasts who have ridiculous amounts of money to spend, or to arcades and VR Theme parks. That's why I got the Quest, everything was self contained and pretty much idiot proof. I feel the wrist sensors are just a more direct version of hand tracking, kinda stoked for the mind reading and face tracking stuff, again as long as it's easy to use, and doesn't hinder time.

I think these are inevitables but simply because they want to sell us something and wish to replace eventually the smartwatch with that. I don’t know why an evolve hand recog wouldn’t be good enough.
@qtcollect46082 жыл бұрын
I agree, minimalism is what VR needs that's why few people care about the high end PCVR headsets and games like Valve Index while Quest 2 sells so much and even more than the Xbox. No one cared about VR except for the enthusiasts until the Quest is released.

Can't wait for this type of tech to become a standard and replace the Quest 2 hand tracking which stops working if it doesn't see the hands
@suzyr822 жыл бұрын
I would definitely buy this if games support it. I don't think "mind reading" is what people think it is. No device can read your actual thoughts, they can only interpret signals to specific known stimuli. My only issue is that handheld controllers deliver haptics to the palm and fingers, and palm and fingers are how you usually interact with stuff in VR. Will they be able to create haptics that trick your brain into sensing feedback on your actual palm and fingers? Holding something in my hands and then feeling the haptics on my wrist doesn't feel right. That's like pinching your nose and feeling the pinch on your mouth.
@ten10_ten102 жыл бұрын
If they did the haptics via electricity like the Teslasuit then they could zap the muscles connected to the specific finger that needs stimuli. No idea how that'd feel, but it's not a bad concept if you ask me.

The easier it is for me to go from driving to flying, without having to climb in and out of my sim rig the better. Some games are worth the sim rig and some are likely better with VR haptics. Little things like this are a step in the right direction.

Minimalism my be the way forwards. Theres other videos where cameras are attached to controllers looking down to track leg motion. I think theres a flaw with that aproach in that you cant track hands and fingers if you are holding a controller. If the user had a bracelet with nerve tracking instead, you could conceivably track your hands and lower body too with cameras on the bracelet.

I like the idea of nerve-reading, but don't like the idea of MetaBook being the ones to do it. I have to deal with my phone hearing my words, I don't need MetaBook knowing my thoughts somehow. Because they brought it up, so the question "But can we?" has to have come up at some point. Edit: hope your kid gets better, too!

Their algorithims are probably already advanced enough that via all the data they have of you they can probably predict what sort of thoughts yoy may be having like food, politics, hobby, etc.
@travissmith59942 жыл бұрын
Brain-Machine Interfaces are a different product (been in development for decades). They require sensors being put on the head. This wrist band records the electrical impulses that tell your muscles to move, at the wrist. Unless your brain is in your wrist (in which case, that's quite the condition you have!) there's no privacy change from existing controller designs.
@tuna18732 жыл бұрын
It can't read your mind
@Taijifufu2 жыл бұрын
Personally I am most excited for these wrist bands if Meta can pull it off. I think Meta did a bad job quelling privacy concerns to try to appear like this tech is more powerful than they can be, for example EEGs could never _really_ read your thoughts(not that this is like an EEG). These will only be able to detect what it's advertised to do.(although some smart people can tell a lot about you with very little data) The thing I find most impressive is if they can get accurate readings through the skin since if you want to talk invasive... this kind of thing used to have to be surgically implanted to get accurate readings. The wrist is probably the only part of the body that is uniform enough between all humans and thin enough to do this as a commercial product. I'm skeptical that they can have strong haptic feedback with these though(probably weak clicks), but they are the most promising tech I've seen for hand tracking that doesn't require holding your hands out under a small camera window for long periods of time.
@lucaspedrajas56222 жыл бұрын
if ot was for haptic feedback i would buy it, until then... nah
@xitcix83602 жыл бұрын
It literally isn't invasive though? I mean it's literally reading something that you can just visibly see, and how on Earth is the way your finger moves personal data?
