The thing I always find myself raving about at this level of running is the technique. It’s the technique and the maintenance of that technique that makes the difference in my opinion, especially over middle and long distance. Laura has a beautiful running technique. If you look at Laura in slow motion compared to all the other runners you can see she never over extends her muscles. Her legs never fly out behind her, her weight is centred, her back is straight, her arms are always maintaining balance. It’s absolute efficiency and it gives her the edge to win. It’s not easy to do that. You have to be so disciplined to maintain that form especially at the end when your body is screaming at you to stop, but Laura does it regardless of the pain. What a champion she is!
@sharongillespАй бұрын
It’s technique AND body structure. She seems to have the body structure of leading African competitors . And I can bet you … she put in quite a few HOURS watching the BEST African competitors’ form, technique and daily discipline.

This video needs context. This race was on 16 February 2019: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2bLmnyHbLqFbM0 Quoting from the Wikipedia article on Laura Muir, she "broke the 31-year-old British indoor mile record held by Kirsty Wade by more than five seconds, stopping the clock at the world third-fastest time of 4:18.75 at the Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix. She was 1.61 seconds short of a European record." The Wikipedia aticle on Scottish records says that Jemma Reekie holds the current Scottish women's indoor mile record of 4:17.88, set on 8 February 2020 at the Millrose Games in New York City: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6a0eZSQaZaqeqc Laura Muir holds the current Scottish record for an outdoor mile, 4:15.24, set on 21 July 2023 at Stade Louis II, Monaco. This is the same race where Faith Kipyegon of Kenya set the current women's world record of 4:07.64: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGaXiqesq7KAndE As noted at 4:20 in this video, the women's World Indoor Record (WIR) for 1 mile is 4:13.31. What tends to break my heart is the "laboring" in her face on the final 2 laps. IMO, a woman's body is not for this. She has vital organs for reproduction down there taking a pounding every step. The male body has none of that (except 2 clanking balls) and seems designed for this type of work. I love women sports...golf is my favorite to watch...soccer, swimming, diving, skiing......But basketball, tennis....and especially track....anything that completely exhausts you?

Good for her and all of the other"women" runners who've helped change the world. Thanks for sharing this one of a kind race. Congratulations to Muir and Scotland!

I've been running my entire life 5 years professionally in my youth, now I'm 50yo , still running long distances, to run a race like she did, you're not just need to be a exceptional athlete but you need a perfect week, perfect day before and perfect night before, is like every power in the cosmos are aligned to make your body and mind works in full potential, and she got the best of that moment, what a phenomenal performance, I think it will take time till it happen again in this distance.

Amazing, my best official time was 4:50
@jonathanshaw8868Ай бұрын
That's plenty fast, I was always more into strength and body building, my best time was 5:59, i was pumped to get under 6 minutes.

In high school, our distance runner was getting 5:20 and beating most people. In college he got his best at 4:43 and only once was it below that 4:50 mark. This is insane. My best was 6:20. 😆 I was speed and jumper.

I could never run for long distances because of asthma, but it is fun to watch these amazing athletes ❤

I would fine it helpful if you would name exact times and exact records. Indoor mile? National Record? What is the world record, how does she rate with the rest of the world?
@marcuscook3852Ай бұрын
Are you honestly too lazy to do some research? Also, are you aware that this is from 2019?
@boomshankah1123Ай бұрын
This is the Scottish national record set in Birmingham in 2019 , when Laura Muir was 26 years-old, and definitely not a GIRL. The indoor world record is 4:13 seconds and this is about 5 seconds slower at 4:18.

I have to admire the pace girl, sorry forget her name, but she has been blessed with an amazing body, the legs, the torso & arms are all in sync and beautiful to watch flow. I have memories as a young teenager running cross country races & feeling I was floating over the rough ground we ran, that's what she brings back to mind, that effortless flow. Not taking anything away from the Scottish girl, stunning. Cheers

I have the utmost respect for this lady, please mention she is a women athelite and maybe one day she will be the first female to break the 4min mile. I now see the world record is down to 4min 7.64 sec, set in 2023. Ver ver well done Laura Muir. Mens record is 3:34.13 sec set on July 7, 1999.
@DanSimmons-s2fАй бұрын
Notice how the description doesn't say what record she breaks. It's not even anywhere near the world record if this is what you are expecting!

that guy is a sort of misinformed , most BOY high school state and runner ups run right around 4:20 and that time is no where near 4 min flat or better
@od1452Ай бұрын
Amazing Laura . Great job. Until a year ago , I thought only African runners had a chance of breaking running records. I'm glad I was wrong.
