Alright, two things: One, right after filming I figured out the name AD INFINITUM means, like...ADvertisement. That kind of ad. Duh. And Two...yes, I meant to read the video description for Stupes' video before watching it and I just forgot in the moment. It probably would have helped a *little* bit, since it says In Deltarune you meet "Spamton G Spamton the salesman. Formed from an amalgam of junk email, online adverts and adware and with a grip on reality about as string as his grip on grammar and syntax, Spamton has fallen on hard times when you find him in his grbage can home." Stupes goes on to say "With my seemingly unerring trend of making songs about crazy and/or evil businessmen. I think we all knew this was coming, right?" So...I figured most of that on my own from the song eventually, so I guess I *did* "get it" but...it still melted my brain, y'all. Whether I knew that info going in or not. Still loved it, tho!

Toby Fox has a history with side-story characters being absolute breakouts. There's Sans (a skeleton) in Undertale, then Jevil (based on the "Joker" playing card) from Deltarune Chapter 1, and now Spamton (a spambot personified) in Deltarune Chapter 2.
@macaylacayton29152 жыл бұрын
sans wasn't a side character though, nor is jevil and spamton based on previous trends from Toby if you think about it. seriously in Undertale most of the deeper lore(timelines, a bit of gaster, and that stuff) came from sans and flowey in undertale so if that remains true in deltarune, jevil and spamton will become important in some way
@joeclager2532 жыл бұрын
@@macaylacayton2915 I think their point though is that in a standard playthough, if you arent digging for all the lore, none of the characters really have much effect on the story. sans is the most involved of the three, but he's a comic relief character, and while he asks you to be friends with his brother, he never really directs you in any way, nor is he an obstacle. jevil is really easy to never see once, and if you dont go back to the dump after fighting spamton, he's just a kind of weird one-off miniboss

To explain spamton, he just kinda… shows up out of a dumpster suddenly while you are walking through an alley, with no context. He pops out, gives you the pitch, word for word, that stupendium does at the beginning of the video, And starts fighting you. During the fight, he talks about how he wants your [heart-shaped object] and how he can give you what he knows you want: [hyperlink blocked]. After haggling with him to win the fight, he tells you to find him at the dump, and if you don’t backtrack to a obscure location, that is the last time you see him. If you go back to said location, you find him running a shop, when you can purchase items with ever-changing stats for ever-changing prices, but when you buy them, you receive a useless, broken version, at which point he insists that you didn’t get scammed, it was always like that. If you talk to him, he’ll give you the background that he used to be a [BIG SHOT!1!], and that everything used to be great, and how he’ll eventually get back to the top and surpass that [clown around town], referring to another character in deltarune. If you ask about friends he gives the response that you and him are already friends, and that you don’t need anyone else. After this his eyes fill with static as he says “…..mike….” Then returns to his normal self. He will offer you a [specil d3al], in the form of purchasing a key, going into the final area, and finding a secret door to unlock with it, to get [hyperlink blocked]. I never found the door, so you will need to research the rest yourself, or if someone could reply to this comment and explain further, that would be great.
@StarChargerStudios2 жыл бұрын
Also kromer isn’t the games currency, but spamton refers to it as kromer, and this is never explained.
@was---nn1vh2 жыл бұрын
Well, from what I recall, when you get the key you need to go to a specific room in the Queen's Mansion (The main "bad" "guy" of Deltarune Chapter 2). And after opening a door you will find a dilapidated kind of basement, and there you will find a broken machine. If you interact with the machine you will get an item called "EmptyDisk". After getting it you need to give it to Spamton and he will upload himself into the disk. But before that he will ask for you to upload him into the machine. If you put him inside the machine, Spamton will take control of the machine and will distort it to fit his appearance more. Then the secret boss fight will start. After defeating Spamton, you can go back to the area where you bought the key from him, and you will find his colleagues (The 4 guys in the boxes that sing the chorus of the song). After speaking with each one of them, you will get a little bit of background about him. And basically, he was just like them but he was the unluckiest. He barely could complete a single deal, where the others could at least do a couple. One day, a mysterious entity started to speak with him through phone calls, and from there he started to gain unbelievable success. He got so much success that he started to live in the Queen's Mansion, but his colleagues abandoned him out of envy. However, when the entity stopped calling him, his bad luck came back and he lost everything. That, together with the things the entity told him about (like he is character of a videogame), made him go insane. And that's why there's a part of the song where he pleads to stop taking his furniture. Because the Queen's subordinates kicked him out of there. There's more things about him, but that is starting to go into theory territory, so I will stop here. Hope I helped.

My favorite line from this video (which is full of good lines) is probably: “You. Want. It. Need. It. Don’t. You. See? But if you want to make your screen green, then you are going to need my kromer key.” Not only do I love Stupendium’s delivery of the line, the fact that it is a pun, and the visual joke that went with it, but I also love how it is also such a good layered reference to the game. “Make your screen green” is not only a reference to the word “green screen”, but is also a phrase that means getting a lot of money. The “kromer key” part of it is a reference to “chroma keying” which is what you need to do in order to use a green screen, but it heavily goes back to Spamton’s character. In the game, Spamton sells you a key that you need in order to fight the secret boss of the chapter (a powered up version of Spamton himself) and Spamton always calls the currency of the game Kromer. Do not only is the line a green screening reference, but it is also a reference to how Spamton is telling you “If you want to succeed, you need this key that I’m selling”.
@denisaene23082 жыл бұрын
Not to mention, there's the possibility that Spamton's motivation in the game is to break through the fourth wall and reach "real life" (he claims to want to rise higher than anyone and look right into "HEAVEN") by using the main character's SOUL - which is controlled by the irl player - so that line and visual might even have a triple meaning!

I am ASTOUNDED at how well you understood Spamton's character, WITHOUT EVER SEEING Spamton or playing Deltarune before listening to that song, just by listening to the damn song. This goes to show how accurate Stupendium's song is to Spamton. To answer some of your questions though, Spamton G. Spamton is a secondary-centric character of Chapter 2 of Deltarune. He's depicted as a Crooked Salesman, expert in the art of money baiting. He used to make big deals, now it's just scams. Once he was like the blue, yellow, pink and orange characters that appear a few times : they're called Addisons, and Spamton used to be an Addison. But then someone known as "Mike" called him, promised him BIG SHOTS!! and to be famous with lots of money. He made it big by scamming and with Mike's help, getting in the Queen's mansion and everything. Big life. But one day, Mike stopped calling. Communication was cut and Spamton started falling to his demise. From the mansion to the dumpster. His encounter in the game is a secret bossfight, much like Jevil if you're familiar with Deltarune's Chapter One, but you see him more in the chapter - he's introduced by himself in an alley, as he jumps out of a dumpster and "fights" you, well, entices you to make a deal with him. Then you'll see him at his homemade storefront, where he'll scam you a lot and get you to find the Queen's basement to get a certain object from, bring it back to him, then BACK to the basement. This unlocks his secret bossfight (the first encounter is a must, you can't bypass it). There, hope this clears up some things about Spamton! Spamton is not evil, not meant to be evil. He's just... *[Desperate.]*

i love how almost nobody who's reacted to this song knows anything about deltarune lmao but in all honesty, this song is such an enigma. cuz like i love it in every meaning of the word, but it's so insane that i can never really find the words to describe how i feel about it. the quality is mind bogglingly fantastic, the lyrics are so well written that it makes my brain hurt with all the sneaky references and double meanings. everything about it is just so accurate to spamton as a character and its amazing

I've found it to be incredibly infuriating actually. Some of them are redeeming, cause it's actually amazing to see someone who knows nothing about spamton, over time understand exactly what he's all about just from the song. Which speaks volumes to how well it was made. But too many just go 'haha, that was fun'. All the talent and nuance is lost.

What a fun reaction, watching your mind melt. I think Stup's description that the rap lyrics hit you like attacks is accurate. And after all, Spamton doesn't want you THINKING about what he's selling, he wants you BUYING. This song is a ride even if you are familiar with who Spamton is. I do think it's fun watching people be introduced to Spamton through this, even if they do never wind up playing Deltarune. Finally, our dumpster goblin is making his way around town. You are correct in guessing that Spamton is a boss in Deltarune. I'm a Deltarune fan, so to give a little context on a few things, I will say that Kromer is a currency used by Spamton and only Spamton, and a Cungadero is a car model that Spamton sold in his heyday, before everything in his life came crashing down... Oh, and we don't know who Mike is either. Thanks! I liked the video!

@mars5012005 Another widely accepted theory is that mike will be the main antagonist of chapter 3 (Jevil mentioned Queen, Spamton mentions Mike). Both secret bosses seem to have connections to Gaster but Mike is clearly another entity. Edit: less narcissistic

@@mchsprod its also possible mike wasn't the caller, and it was gaster, but mike will be the main antagonist of chapter 3. Its also possible both Mike and Gaster called at different points, and perhaps Spamton knew they were different people or perhaps he didn't.

Considering Spamton refers to a character named "Tenna" in the Sweepstakes (the page where he mentions the "DAMN [Boob Tube]" is called "damn_you_tenna"), but seems to still hold some sort of reverence for Mike (EVERYONE EXCEPT..... Mike...), I think Tenna was responsible for sending Spamton crashing down in some way. Maybe he tried to use Tenna to find out more about Mike, which broke their deal and caused Mike to ditch him.

Okay here's a slight little breakdown of the madman you're seeing, Sampton is a living spam email who lives inside of a computer that was transformed into an entire Kingdom. He used to be really successful and got many clicks and a lot of attention from user all over. One day however, the person who is giving him all of the advice which helped him get so popular stopped calling him. (This person is mike) Soon the living spam had his entire life turned upside down, he was kicked out of his apartment in the queens castle (that's why he said no please don't take my furniture, because he was remembering when he got kicked out.) Eventually a mysterious character, who we can only assume to be mike, told spamton something which caused him to go absolutely insane. The green strings you can see are the games physical representation of him being controlled by mike. He has 3 boss fights, his first is very weird but nothing to hard or complex. The other two boss fights however take place as super bosses (really hard to beat secret bosses that you can only access by doing a certain amount of things in a certain way) In order to beat his secret super boss fight you have to quite literally separate him from the strings holding him like a puppet. Afterwards he turns into the deal maker after he dies. (The dealmaker is one of 2 objects spamton turns into after death. Batista pens if you we're trying to murder him or trying to separate the strings or not.) There's a lot more here to explain, but I'd be here all day... And don't even get me on [HYPERLINK BLOCKED]

It's probably been said, but the Music Man references run through the whole song. The melody at the beginning is a corrupted version of 76 Trombones, the bit of the opening monologue just before the first verse is also from Trouble, as are most of the rest of the references in the song. Almost every time Stupes is dressed in the old-timey salesman costume, he's referencing the Music Man.

Having to apologise for a few minutes about not liking Undertale does kinda show the toxicity people may have toward mismatching opinions... In any case, for a few things you couldn't guess without playing the game, the first few lines: "Woah! If it isn’t a Lightner! Hey hey hey! Look like you’re [[all alone on a late night?]] All your friends [[abandoned you for the slime]] you are? Sales gone down the [[drain]] [[drain]]? Living in a goddamn garbage can?!" are taken straight from the game and is how Spamton introduce himself to the player character. Kinda nice to see how well they fits well in the song ^^ Kromer isn't the actual currency of the game but is how Spamton refer to it, it's also a mispelling of Krone (or Kroner in plural), the currency of Norway and Denmark ^^ During the song, for the line "Sponge who hates its [[$4.99]] life boat?", the choice of "Life Boat" being the next element specifically also refer to a line of the game: "WHY BE THE [Little *Sponge] WHO HATES ITS [$4.99] LIFE* WHEN YOU CAN BE A [BIG SHOT!!!]" Spamton is indeed a boss in the game, although a minor boss. He does however have an upgraded form, Spamton NEO, that act as a secret boss (or final boss of the alternate route), this alternate form is however barely represented in this song, but seen toward the end wrapped in wires. As for Mike, I don't believe much is known about him, although it someone that Spamtom clearly hate, that he classify as a criminal. And on a side note as well, Spamton's and actions seems to be the result of mind control, which is broken once the player breaks all of the wires holding him during the secret boss fight. ^^ Given the game mostly take place in an alternate world called "Cyber World", which represents a computer, that Spamton is a personification of all kinds of spam, that's just a guess but I can assume this control is the representation of having our computer infected and used to, in this case, send spam mails and various scams to random people. ^^ Overall though, even without playing the game, there isn't really much context needed to understand the song so, I don't think you really missed that much, at least not for that reason ^^
