y'all, I'm sorry that there has been such a long gap in uploads! My mom had double knee replacement surgery this week! It went well, she's been incredibly brave and strong and it's so great that she was able to do it, but it has been impossible to do anything else this week. The good news is that there are a bunch of videos backed up in the pipeline and they should be posting thick and fast soon! Thank you for being here and for watching this video! xoxoxo

@@annetteprice You're welcome! I think the liquid products are worth it if they are everyday staples that will get used up within 6-9 months. I also don't order them in the dead of summer because they are often ruined by the time they are delivered.

I think all brands should just remove the spf from their foundations/tints altogether. We never apply enough of those products to make it to the advertised protection level, and many are sensitive to spfs. This way everyone could use an spf that works for them, and not have to worry about the makeup causing skin flareups. Whoops echo lol. Should have watched more of the vid before I commented! :)
@KB-xx9xx2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! While people tend not to apply enough SPF it's SO much worse with makeup especially when it's added to skin tints that are explicitly meant to be applied ultra-sheer/sparingly, and especially when it's so little SPF to begin with as is the case with the Kosas product - it effectively does nothing at the amounts any normal person would apply foundation at. It's so misleading for companies to design a product for sheer use and then market it with an SPF value that even the most hardcore coverage-lover would never use enough to reach. At the very least they should be forced to be EXPLICITLY CLEAR on the packaging about how much product you actually have to use to get the SPF on the label, and/or disclose SPF under "typical use" as a COSMETIC. The way it stands the function as an SPF is basically incompatible with the function as a cosmetic because you'd have to use so much that it couldn't possibly look good, but they let people think they're getting the SPF on the bottle using it how anyone would reasonably use a makeup product and IMO, that's wrong and should not be allowed. Thinking you have sun protection when you don't can in fact be worse than no sunscreen at all because you're less careful about sun exposure. It also makes it so much harder for them to release products in other countries. We still can't get the Kosas foundation in Canada because of SPF regulations. It has to pass Health Canada and get a DIN because sunscreen is an OTC drug, and that massively slows things down/limits the market they can sell to. I just can't understand why they continually insist on doing it.

I agree. I heard Sally Hughs here in the UK suggest that makeup , esp foundation, should have hyaluronic acid.

I’m so surprised y’all don’t like the new packaging! In my opinion, the old packaging was suuuper uninspiring and I had no interest in trying the brand at all. Once they rebranded, it’s like a light shown down from heaven on the Kosas section of Sephora and now I use almost all of their products. The packaging now matches the brand - fun, clean, fresh (again, just my opinion). I think I may have just gotten bored of simple black/white packaging though hahaha Also, currently double checking & smelling it on my hand… but my foundation doesn’t have a scent. The website also says its fragrance free, so I wonder if you’re smelling something else! Anyway I was stoked to see a super in-depth review of yours on Kosas. The problem I have with Kosas is that their products turn bad very quickly. The concealer is superb. However, it turned after a couple of months. It was very obvious as the concealer began to smell awful. Same with the bronzer. It started smelling like plasticine/ play-doh after 6 months. This is my beef with “clean” beauty, particularly makeup. The cost is disproportionate to the useful life of the product. So I don’t buy Kosas products anymore. The packaging too is not environmentally friendly which is a contradiction in terms. “Clean” for your face, but not for the environment. PS the deodorant is awful - my pits smell like a dragons bum by the afternoon.

I had the same xp with the concealer! Turned into chunky bleu cheese. The powder blush and powder hasn’t turned but the formula on the blush is waaaay powdery. I have the opposite xp with the deodorant though. It stinks going on but kills any stink throughout the day.

Strong agree. As tempted as I am by the formulas I don’t wear makeup daily so it would be such a waste of money for me. And your excellent point about the environment. Plus I’m just generally annoyed at the whole “clean” beauty bullshit that I refuse to buy those brands. I want preservatives dammit. They are safe and improve the safety of a product.
@HannahLouisePoston2 жыл бұрын
good to know!! I will keep an eye on it!
@gailjacobson70882 жыл бұрын
This makes me think that they haven’t found a preservative that they consider “clean” and truly works to extend the life of the product to the point where it is financially worthwhile to buy it. It’s a problem when companies don’t want to use traditional preservatives, many of which, according to scientists I’ve listened to are perfectly neutral and not harmful. When “” clean brands start eliminating stuff, they don’t always have other stuff to replace it with that works as well as the stuff that they are calling bad for us

It was such a wonderful powder to use on my dry skin. I can completely relate to the shock that you experienced with it because this particular powder is baked...I think. lol I'm pretty sure it is, but it turns into such a beautiful addition to my foundations and concealers. It works great to buff out blush that gets a little "out of hand".

I didn’t like the Kosas concealer when I first tried it but after a few uses I completely fell in love with it. It’s been my go to for months and what I use when I don’t wear foundation but want still want some coverage. I definitely agree that it’s not the concealer for spot concealing. As for the foundation when you mentioned the smell I was puzzled and then I grabbed mine and smelled it and remembered when I first tried it I hated the smell! Now I’m a bit nose blind to it. It is one of the best shade matches in my collection for my skin tone. The foundation itself is solid - it lasts on my skin and I don’t necessarily NEED to set it. But the concealer is the star for me.

I’m a makeup lover and always love trying new things but the kosas concealer and the powder I’ve repurchased twice now. I love having something I love so much that I use it up, isn’t that the point?! I’ve come to the conclusion that I shouldn’t be buying any other concealers or powders to try because I love these that much. They tick all of my boxes as you would say! I recently picked up the foundation and the brow gel and I’m hooked. I’m in my 30s and while I don’t love the packaging either I know I should mostly be purchasing based on whether or not the product is useful and these definitely are for me. Love the review and great timing as they are having a 20% off sale today 💚

I love the older Kosas aesthetics, back when Sheena launched their lipsticks (I have most of them), and then the blush duos (the powders in my case). The newer stuff I'm not so interested in. I was so happy to hear your thoughts on the mascara as I was wondering whether to try it. I can't cope with a mascara that stays even a little bit sticky. Thankfully I have Glossier Lash Slick that does everything I need. I know a lot of people find it barely there but it really suits my lashes.

I'm a huge Kosas fan and have liked nearly everything I've tried from the brand - I agree the eyeshadows are total duds, and I'm not crazy about the brow gel - including the body care. I hate to recommend a $15 deodorant, but it's the first one I've tried in my life that hasn't made me unhappy. Bummer about the fragrance in the foundation though, I don't understand why brands think we want scented base product. At all of 37, I find I'm more attracted to the packaging now that Kosas has started stepping away from minimalism. For me, a lot of the packaging on minimalist/creamy/skincare-y/"clean" makeup veers into this weird, over-edited, not-like-other-girls territory that I find increasingly uninspiring. Kosas could very easily slouch into that NLOG space and paradoxically I think the irreverent, mismatched packaging helps avoid it. It's like, this makeup is outstanding and is definitely made for grownups, but it's also completely unsuitable for a shelfie.

Wow I really appreciate this deep dive! And as I’m listening & applying I’m going “yeah, she is spot on”! I’m new to the brand and your channel) but just yesterday had the foundation, concealer, powder & sponge delivered. I’m 40 with fine lines & typical maturing skin..but I take good care of my skin so for my age it’s in great shape. I’m not a huge concealer/powder user I usually go in with very light easily blendable base products but due to all the buzz decided to try all 3. First of all my powder isn’t glued properly to the component & just fell into my hand (thank god it was my hand & not the floor) but my point is the packaging definitely needs a little work. Wasn’t blown away by the concealer but in all honesty I don’t have dark circles & I’ve always had trouble finding one that doesn’t settle into my lines & easy to blend. Only one I’ve ever had luck with was the Fenty (one in the squeeze tube can’t remember the name) I’m a busy mom & since I tend to spend a decent amount of my getting ready time on my skincare routine when it comes to the makeup I need quick & easy..I definitely agree with everything you said about the overall texture being great for mature skin I think you nailed it! It’s sitting on my skin so nicely and doesn’t feel heavy at all, nice coverage & evened out my skin tone which is the main reason I wear foundation. I used a brush on one side & sponge on the other, both look great but found the sponge side to look just a little more seamless. I might exchange the concealer for a lighter/better shade match & hopefully I’ll be able to get a better idea if it works for me. The powder, definitely exchanging but also think I could’ve used a lighter shade & one that isn’t going to fall out of the compact lol. So still on the fence with those but the foundation so far is definitely a 10/10!!

Interesting about their lipsticks-I think they launched the brand with them and for a while it was their main product. But that was long ago and you’re right-no one talks about it now🤷🏻♀️RE their packaging/vibe, I wonder if they’re going for the nostalgia-factor of the neon/splattered paint etc to appeal to gen X/millennials rather than younger people. Sadly I think that IS the reformulated version of their mascara. The eyeshadow, ugh, I actually loved the original version, both formula and colors. Sad it’s gone. Finally, I love the concealer under my late-40s wrinkly eyes-it makes them look dewy and younger even though it hardly changes the color. Thanks for this! Love this kind of video! 💕❤️💕❤️

I was so excited about the Kosas foundation because it sounded like exactly what I'd always wanted out of my base makeup, but I just could not get it to work for me for some reason. I think maybe I just have a more severe case of skin that tends to not look great with foundation? The only product that I've found works well for me thus far is the Jungsaemmool Essential Skin Nuder cushion. I should have bought shade Fair instead of Light, but my skin looks so healthy and pretty that I'm willing to put up with the color being a bit off. The other major pro for me is that it wears off in a really natural-looking, subtle manner, unlike every other foundation I've tried which always end up looking pretty gross on me after a few hours.

I also want to give a shout-out to the fiber brow gel, which is fantastic for people who like that kind of product. I had the same bad experience with the mascara on my sensitive, watery eyes. I agree with what you said about Kosas being great for a mature audience, and missing that audience with their current packaging and marketing. I'm in my 50's, and I used to feel like I was a part of their target audience, but I no longer feel that way. Great review, on point on how you explained undertone and how it is much better to work with the right undertone, in spite of the intensity vs. being the wrong undertone and right intensity of undertone. I have light neutral olive skin and at times, I have to mix green primer to foundations that seem too warm or pink to balance it. P. S. Love this product, too because of the coverage, skincare ingredientes, and because it is the foundation that has the almost exact color I am.

Hi Hannah! Hope that you don't mind a product recommendation; I've been enjoying the Lethal Cosmetics lipstick in "Roam" so much as a blush lately, even going so far as to melt it into a pan. It reminds me very much of this "old gum" color that you describe a lot, with a very beige-pink-brown tone and a good amount of white base.

I appreciate your restraint of spending in your videos because that has helped me A LOT in spending on makeup. Also yes! about the spf in makeup….apply your spfffff

I kinda like SPF in base products. When your blending makeup, it can remove a little bit of your base SPF. lol, It makes me feel more comfortable knowing it's depositing some more

What you said about the Kosas mascara is EXACTLY what I experienced with the L’Oréal Telescopic mascara, which is so odd because everyone else seems to love it. But it just feels like it never fully dries and when I walked around in winter with the air being a bit humid (no rain or anything, just humidity), it smudged immediately. I’ve never had that problem before.

I also often use the Kosas Revealer Concealer as my only base product (other than powder, if you consider that base), especially on those days where I want to wear a minimal amount of makeup and know I won’t be wearing it for a long time.

Have you ever thought about reviewing uoma beauty? I’ve heard from Robert welsh that their base products are some of his favorite foundation+concealors. I bought their contour and highlught stick. Its super pigmented, but I got a color that’s too dark for me so I dont use it unless its the summer

Great video Hannah, food for thought. All the products look fantastic on you, very natural, I love their cheek duos too, I’m now interested in trying their base products when the time comes to buy something new 👌🏽

Thx. It is very difficult to find true neutral especially when having olive skin ..the olive toned foundations look bad on me...too olive. So, kosas works best for me after trying so many foundations...and i love the rose scent!

thank you so much for talking about the mascara in an honest way. i bought it thinking it would be great because i love my other kosas products (concealer, powder, etc) and i felt crazy because i had such a bad experience with it but everybody was talking about how great it was. i have never had a mascara transfer as much as that one did, and i don’t even wear mascara on my bottom lashes. it also weighed my lashes down like crazy, and made my lashes feel really heavy.

I remember Kackie really liking the original formulation of the 10 second eyeshadows and being disappointed when they reformulated and not being able to work with them anymore. I feel like i remember her saying that she felt like people liked the original formulation and the new ones were just a bad idea for the brand.
@mizshellytee2 жыл бұрын
Jamie Paige didn't like the reformulation, either, and she LOVED the original Globe (now Blaze). She thought Globe was more nuanced, in regards to the shimmer, than Blaze.

Thanks for this Hannah. Another great review. So sorry to hear about your Mums health struggles. That’s the last thing you all needed I bet! What bad timing! Not that there’s ever a good time for such a thing. Anyhoo you mentioned that the brand had your undertone right but just not quite your shade. It reminded me of another video I watched just the other day where the influencer had her make up done by a professional MUA. During their chit chat she asked the MUA if she had any advice for those starting out about what to put in their kits. The question was aimed at those on a budget. The MUA had no hesitation in saying simply not to bother getting every shade of base. In fact she felt that was a trap. She said as long as you covered the undertones, if you were out by half a shade or a shade sometimes it could easily be balanced with the use of things like concealer, bronzer and blush. I thought of that straight away today but when you mentioned that you thought your foundation was the wrong shade but the right undertone. I think you were right in surmising that, where necessary, it is the undertone on which you should be placing your concern and focus. You’re so lucky you know for sure what your undertone is and that you’ve found products that match it. That’s what’s most important. Anyway your overall look was beautiful, as per usual, and a delight to watch coming together, along with your intelligent and reasoned analysis of the brand. I have 3 full foundations right now (and as you know am on a no buy) so nothing here for me just yet but next year I believe I’d like to give the kosas foundation a shot. That’s three I now have on my wishlist for when I either run out, OR the year ends (whichever comes first)! Half way there now! It’s getting harder and harder but I’m learning so so much and I know it’s going to have been one of the best things I have ever done. So all in all, yay Kosas and yay Hannah!

If you’re looking to try more powders I suggest the Nars light reflecting pressed powder. It doesn’t change the color of your foundation, and it doesn’t look like you’re wearing powder. It’s extremely lightweight but it still blurs and sets, it’s amazing! I hardly wear powders or set my makeup, but if I do I use that powder. 😊

Dear Hannah I need to thank you for your book recommendations. My daughter is severely ill with ME/CFS and due to her neurological problems she can't look at screens, is bedbound and is very hard to find something to help her entertain. I always tell her what you recommend because it is very hard to find a good book that is not depressing.

The Kosas blushes are beautiful. I wish the pink one came in a lighter shade (I am very fair and it gets out of hand really fast) with a lighter hi lighter as well. One thing to keep in mind, in my experience, they go bad fairly quickly (expiration is 6 mo after opening, mine lasted about a year).

I would prefer for cosmetics to not have spf since it's usually a chemical spf that I must avoid. Since this foundation is both fragranced & has spf & I assume also contains HA since it is so serum-like, it's a definite no for me & my rosacea. I remember when everyone was talking about the Kosas bronzers a while back but I haven't heard a lot about the foundation or concealer. The only time I ever tried a foundation & thought it made my skin look better, it also caused the worst rosacea flare I'd had after wearing 2 days. I was so disappointed. Most foundations look terrible, some look less bad, some look ok for a few hours. All are a compromise.
@gillypiexo2 жыл бұрын
dude it's as if I wrote this comment! all of what you said is exactly my experiences as well. being super fair with dry, sensitive, reactive skin, wearing foundation or whole face base products, it's not ever perfect, always a trade off or compromise this for that.

I wish they made the blushes customisable. I wanted the intensity of the intense blush version but the softness of the highlighter in the original version. Is it just me asking for too much?

I love the liquid eyeshadow. I have oily lids and these legit dry down quick and last. I don’t get a blurred super blended edge, but I don’t think I’m really meant to. I just smear it on my lid and immediately blend with a finger then close my lid and fan it dry. They suggest placing it on the lid, wait a few seconds, then blend. I will say my tubes are older. Like I have purple, an ice blue…now their shades are all neutrals. Globe (it’s been renamed) is a fave. It just shines on my lids. Yes, for sure, when this bad boy dries it ain’t going anywhere so you have to be really quick and not expect perfection. It’s not really amenable to blending and layering. Just slap it on, tap with a finger to blend, let it dry and BAM. You’re done. Sometimes, like on vacation, that’s all I want.

Thank you for this thorough review. I already love the concealer and I actually like the eyeshadows - as one-and-dones. I appreciate your review because I have been wondering about the foundation, the powder, the cheek colours and the lipsticks. I have now purchased all the products you featured (except the mascara!). (I apologize but I did fast-forward some parts - I think YT takes that into account.) Thanks again.
