Most of these color names are taken from the Grumbacher paints, geared mostly for beginning artists. These colors are extremely well known amongst artists. Sketching tree trunks onto a canvas is a Raw Sienna (or Burnt Umber) moment. Anyway You correctly noted the pigment undertone in Lamp Black, which Is a very pure black, but tends to muddy slightly in mixtures. Natural sources may be brownish or bluish in tone because of impurities.

When the new lipsticks came out, there was so much hype about how they were the perfect 90s supermodel shades, etc. My first thought was, the shades those 90s supermodels wore are almost all easily available for a fraction of the price. The first brand that came to mind was Revlon. The Rum Raisin comparison was easy confirmation.

love your reviews so much. the way you really dig deep into finding the most precise words to describe the texture and experience of using the shadows is like no other. you also are very aware of your own preferences and are able to describe both what works / doesn't for a shadow and what works / doesn't work *for you* for a shadow. One thought I had as I was listening to you describe the patchiness in applying individual matte shadows: 1) I think you are absolutely correct to say the mattes in this collection behave/should be treated more like creams than powders, and thus 2) I wonder if your Rephr brushes are affecting the application process? Rephr makes their brushes from natural hair, and while the grippy properties of natural hair are an asset when applying powder formulas, they tend to behave more erratically with creams and liquid (especially noticeable when blending liquid foundation or concealer with a natural hair implement). I purchased the Vega and Myth palettes and I've really enjoyed that same airbrush-y, blendable quality you described when layering shades. But my personal brush collection is almost exclusively Sigma and recent MAC-all of which are synthetic-and my experience, even with individual mattes of either formula, is that they blend and build extremely easily on their own. I don't know for certain that this is the exact answer, but I'd be curious to know if you find there's a noticeable difference in application or performance just by switching tools!

I definitely agree with you about Lisa’s makeup pulling orange! As another muted pale olive I was surprised by how much her lipsticks pulled warmer on me when it was supposed to be neutral or even slightly blue leaning. I believe she herself is slightly warm leaning, and if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that makeup brands created by makeup artists that have warm undertones themselves have a “neutral” point that is shifted warmer than a true neutral (in my opinion Natasha Denona is the worst offender)

Thank you for your thorough review! It really got me thinking as I do not at all share your experience. It made me realise even more than before how makeup preference is always important to take into consideration when buying new makeup, and particularly eye shadow. I find it interesting how you choose to compare the Lisa Eldridge eye shadows with shadows from brands like Pat McGrath and Clionadh that all represents very different styles of makeup. Clionadh the indie brand trying to create the most shifty sparkly shadows not really connected to any looks or styles or anything apart from being the most shiny sparkly shifty thing ever pressed into a pan. And then Pat McGrath which represents very American hollywoodesque and Instagram oriented makeup with bold looks and overly saturated pigment with super sparkly special shades to take the looks even further into the stratosphere. And then you have Lisa Eldridge who is a makeup artist that represents a completely different array of makeup styles. Elegance, subtlety, simplicity to editorial but with a more creative or graphic twist in her professional work. And usability and workable in everyday life for all of us people who do not live our lives on social media but in old fashioned work environments where makeup styles that go all the way in sparkly ness doesn’t really work. Most of Lisa’s tutorials are really about taking something from the limelight and making it work in everyday harsh daylight lighting. Taking age and texture and imperfection into consideration and making whatever you are born with more beautiful and smooth and usable. That is her unique selling point in my opinion. Which puts her in a different category to the others you compared her to. In a way if one absolutely wants to make a comparison Lisa represents really a more European style while both Pat McGrath and Clionadh in their respective differences still both represents very typical American expressions. Personally, (I have all six of Lisa’s palettes) I have almost left most of my other palettes lying since these came into my life. They are the ones I reach for on a daily basis. Which is quite opposite of what I thought when buying them as I thought they would feel too precious to use unless for a special occasion. But instead they are really usable for my everyday life. I agree with you on the fact that some of the warmer palettes lean very warm which calls for a light hand. But as these formulas allows for a light hand also and allows for building and not supersaturating at once even these colours have proven workable for me, which they usually are not. (I hardly ever use any of the myriads of copper and bronzey gold shades in my PmG palettes as they are just too much copper and gold (or red) to work. But Lisa’s shadows seems to be made for daylight use also and not just red carpet or artificial Instagram ring lights… And I really appreciate that. A word on formula and blend ability. I understood already from the swatches and from how hard you rub your fingers in the eye shadows that you might end up with blending problems. as these two matte formulas (who are different on the eyes btw) are both created for layering thin layers which will make them blend themselves without hardly any effort with no fallout or unevenness. Subsequently given their formula they are not meant to be put on in a thick splotch and then moulded and blended out with a lot of effort and blend, blend, blend… which I see has become a very common technique especially in the US. Which is ok too, of course. But not as easy and effortless. And formulas made for that will still end up giving less variety in end result as they will mostly offer a rather full on effect which again works great for studio lights but less so in normal everyday settings, at least for most people. I find Lisa’s shadows extremely easily blendable but all you need is apply and blend blend and you are done. And then you can add more layers if you want a more saturated look without getting any unevenness. But if you dig your finger into the pan and pick up tons of product and then deposits that on the lid you will get too much grip and will need another lighter shadow to blend out the edges with. Just as experienced in this video. Lisa does demonstrate this very well in her introduction video. How she designed these formulas to not need so much blending. As most people don’t have time for excessive eye shadow blending in the morning getting ready for work. They need something to work quickly and effortlessly. And I find these formulas allows for very fast work when on the go without skimping on the result. And I believe this is the demographic that Lisa is catering to with her own makeup line. Makeup that actually can be worn in normal daylight, by normal people in everything from dull everyday life and non exceptional settings to elegant editorial situations where effortlessness is sought after. And if that is what you are after and not just the next most shiny or most saturated thing with the most pay off - then Lisa Eldridge has got you covered. But if you are all into the Instagram/KZbin vibe then there are tons of American both established and indie brands to choose from. But if you normally lust for Chanel quads or dior quints then Lisa Eldrige will be an interesting new choice with more interesting formulas at a more affordable price too. ❣️

I am European (Viennese) as well and I could not agree more. I am 45 and I simply do not have the time to blend and layer and blend. I work fulltime in the creative/design field and everything goes make-up wise. But I need shadows which are reliable and useable on the go. I have one LE palette in my make-up bag and can amp the look very easily if I go out (private) or visit events (work) in the evening. The result is always polished (Vega), sometimes colourful and still polished (when I use Sorcery or Myth) and that is exactly what I need and what I like. I did not experience patchiness as well. The only shadow I do not like at all is the topper included in Myth, this one is lackluster in my opinion. All the others are very useful to me and this is rare. As they are buildable I can make 17 out of 18 work (own Vega, Myth & Sorcery)! No waste and I know already that I will repurchase French Grey as it is my perfect base and Supernova which I love in the inneren corner or allover the lid, such a beautiful delicate sparkle! I own a Mothership (1, with the blue) and I loved it because it is so cool toned. I did love the luxurious packaging in theory but not in practice. Not useful on the go and the fingerprints! The shadows are very pigmented and overall a bit darker so I had to be very lighthanded and had to blend ... which I do not love. The baked special shades had a ton of fallout which I do not love neither. I refuse to wear a primer and I know glitter glue would help .. too much fuss to make the glitters last. The glitter particles are huge and I did use them for private occasions only as I do not wish to look like a discoball at work. I retired it after receiving the LE palettes. The Mothership worked well enough but I would not repurchase from Pat.

@@romana.in.wonderland I couldn’t not agree more on the Pat McGrath palettes! They take a lot of effort and glitter glue and such things just don’t vibe with me at all. They seem like they are made for swatching first and use on the eyes second. And with Lisa Eldridge it’s the other way around - which I prefer for reasons before mentioned also by you! I also agree with you that with Pat McGrath the colour scheme is often a bit too dark for daytime use unless you are very light handed and have time to blend to eternity. But I think the main reason behind that is that PmG does cater well for darker skin tones which is good. But they will therefore also be more finicky for lighter skin tones. And all in all overly saturated darker colours or super shiny glittery toppers are not a look i want for everyday use. So PmG for me is solely glam party usable. And for more common evening dinners or straight after work stuff then having the Lisa friend is what I rather reach for. ❣️

@@brabalans348 yes, Pats shades are made for a large variety of skin tones and I appriciate that a lot! I am very happy to own now palettes for fuss free everyday use and might pull the Mothership for special occasions when I am in the mood for blending and doing my eyes first. I find this quite hard, I prefer doing the eyes first and adjust base later and this is finally possible with the LE.

24/7 is a special shade and I would have never known how special if it wasn't for your video on it years ago (THANK YOU!). ♥️ It's been my favorite eyeshadow ever. I've been trying to dupe it for years (with not much luck), so when I saw the reference in your notes I immediately clicked on with excitement! Thank you for this thorough review!

This was super interesting. I only bought the Sorcery palette, and I think it's quite a different experience to the ones you have tried (it only has one matte, for a start - which I like as a liner). It might just be my preference & skin tone etc reading differently, but there are some pretty colourful shades in it, that are what they look like they will be. I was kind of disappointed in Mercurial at first, but it turned out I just needed more of it!

Really loved the review. Totally agree with your take on the LE palettes. I find what's interesting on the lipsticks is how different they are on each person. As you mentioned Affair has a reddish quality on you, on my sister who is a cool-toned blonde, it is definitely a warm 90s brown. On me, (palish blond but more warm toned), it is a really light beige. It's not just her lipsticks of course

So grateful for this video for squashing my desire to buy these shadows. The magic of Lisa really grabs me but I think I have a similar taste in shadows as you (including tones of "neutrals") and I already had a feeling the palettes weren't right for me, and while they really are beautiful, I think they're just not for me.

I’m so thankful that you made this video. I was thinking about getting one because there was SO much hype, but my favorite thing about them was the super shiny shadows and I have Pat McGrath palettes that I love so so much that do that and they’re expensive so I really need to use those instead

I completely agree with what you mean with the matte eyeshadows not having much purchase, I was so confused at first but I find the more you work the brush over the area the more payoff you get, kind of massaging it on with the brush. We have similar skin tones albeit I’m a fraction less fair. I so often find midtone brown and bronze eyeshadows pulling orange/red on my eyes and I’ve spent so much on Lisa Eldridge lipsticks trying to get less pink neutrals! I’ve learned so much about which colours work best on me since following your channel (am also now in a no buy thanks to you) I will follow you to the end of the earth for your recommendations and wisdom.

Thanks for this thorough review…. Your choice of Cinnabar is surprising if everything leans warm. I picked all 3 cool ones and I must say Myth surprised me. But, I also don’t chase sparkles and multichromes the way it seems Beauty KZbin has been going lately. I want a wide range of impacts for different uses: from no-makeup makeup days to shiny sparkly party makeup. I think Lisa delivered a versatility that very few creators can deliver. Note that I’m 50 and more conservative in my eye makeup looks than you although I appreciate a well done colorful or even editorial look. Your work on KZbin is unique. Please continue to deliver thoughtful reviews.

How would you compare the LE to CT quads for the mature eye?
@mlcarv Жыл бұрын
@@Gnv-q2m I stopped buying CT a while back because I found her color stories were too pink or gold for my taste. From what I remember, LE is much easier to blend (you actually have to be careful not to over blend) and offers different levels of shine. I also have dry eyelids, which I think works better for LE shadows. Hope this helps.

Hi Hannah! Loved the nuanced perspective on a product that I've only heard glowing reviews of so far! I recently switched to the UD primer potion and I've found it's both a blessing and a curse. It's sticky grippiness keeps my shadow from creasing in my hooded lids like no other, but achieving a good, blown-out blend has become sooooo difficult due to that same quality in the primer. If you want to make these shadows work for you, or just feel like you're as skilled in blending as you actually are, perhaps you could opt for a different primer, or lay down some concealer in the crease, blend the shadow there and then put the primer potion on the mobile lid and do the rest.

I can second that Lisa Eldridge's customer service is awesome. I had one of the blushes for a while, and the tube burst. I wrote to them, and they immediately credited me back the cost of the blush. They didn't need to do that, and I was so grateful. I was just letting them know in case there was a common problem with the packaging.

I love your insanely thorough reviews! I really wanted some of these eyeshadows but when I went to the Lisa Eldridge shop a few days after launch literally all the eyeshadows in all the formulas had hard pan. I think it will be interesting to see how well they last.

I am curious too! As I own three palettes and like them. A lot. Testers often look horrible, saw some palettes (Huda, Tom Ford) in a shop and have to say, I would not touch them. So disgusting. Nevertheless, people seem to love digging in shadows.

This eye look is stunning though and you look incredible Hannah. I almost feel like Lisa designed these shadows to be like an invisible hand guiding you as you apply, so that it's impossible to get an unflattering look. I love art supply makeup but as I hit mid thirties I'm also starting to appreciate effortless makeup that just looks good no matter what I do!

The idea of a gradient was interesting (from barely-there celebrity makeup all the way to avant-garde looks) but I kinda think there's more than one way something can be dramatic. Like, some people prefer the raw natural energy and textural sparkle of a freshly cracked open geode, while some prefer the highly refined, pristine, multi-faceted look of a gemstone that has been cut and polished. Both stunning, just different.

Such a good watch! Thank YOU! I had the exact same experiences with my palettes. I also bought Vega and Cinnabar. Where I have come out is that I totally got rid of all of the Cinnabar shadows. Needed to get them out of my life so I wouldn't be tempted to give them anymore tries. All the colors--matte and metallic pulled so orange on me, and in a bad way. It looked like I dipped my fingers in a Cheeto bag then rubbed them on my eyelids. I'm also fair-olive, so wondering if it's a fair-olive thing? And the topper in Cinnabar, Ritual, was a complete waste of time. I don't understand the point of it, as it brings nothing. So, super super-disappointed in Cinnabar. Vega, on the other hand, is very flattering on me. Moonswirl actually does this thing that I love, it pulls light brown on me (all I want in life is a true light brown eyeshadow, something that is surprisingly hard to find.) And I do really appreciate the longevity of the shadows. Lastly, I totally get what you said with how French Grey is a bit tough to coax out of the pan and onto the eyelid, which is a bit frustrating.
