I wish influencers would do more reviews on older releases! Sometimes thoughts change, new products come out you can compare them too, and quite honestly, some older releases are just BOMB!!! We are so use to new things left right and center that it's nice to just enjoy something we may already own and revisit our collections!
@erikaherrmann33193 жыл бұрын
Additionally, when I personally am looking to buy something I form the idea of the type of thing I want before I start looking at products, not the other way around, and just statistically, odds are the best thing for me will not be the the latest release. Most products I buy have been out for a good long while and I find it refreshing to see someone online exhibiting a bit of that behavior as well

Me too but I understand why they don't. The older release videos don't do well which not only makes less money for them, a video with a lot less views can hurt them in the algorithm with future videos. But I do agree I always like to see the opinion of certain creators on older things.

This is the 5th time I'm watching this video. I think part of the reason I really enjoy your review is because of the vocabulary you use to describe things. It's not just "stunning" this, and "gorgeous" that. It's "bananas good" and "irreproachable". My ears and brain thank you.
@supernouveaux3 жыл бұрын
Let me help. First I want to point out this colour story is very similar to your beloved Flower Beauty Jungle Lights palette and can absolutely be used in the same way you use that one. Second Jubilee can be used all over the lid, BUT like a majority of the "blitz-astral" shades can be patted on top as sort of a glitter topper. I know in the pan Jubilee is much smoother than Astral Solstice, but you absolutely can use it in the same way, which I take advantage of all the time. I basically just press my finger into the pan (not rub, just press) and then pat whatever is on my finger all over the lid and onto my brow bone like you would with the topper from TF Naked Bronze or with Cava. You may need to repeat that process a few times to build up the shine, but it will look like you took either of those toppers you love and pressed them all over your lid and brow bone. I also want to point out, as the artist in me, is dying over the mattes she chose for the palette, which are basically a Zorn palette. In painting, those 3 colours + white (for opaque paints) are a very old tried and true limited palette for mixing skin tones that originated during the renaissance and it just gives me all the feels. Even the red is named after vermillion which is/was a super popular warm red paint used in the zorn palette. This entire palette just speaks to my love of renaissance paintings and the art revival during that era as an artist and it makes this entire colour story so beautiful and inspired to me.

I adore the gold in this palette! Its actually my favorite color in this palette. Not because i really like yellow golds, but because of how much it serves me while creating looks, which I think is very related with my coloring. It layers so beautifully over the copper, green, champagne, and the bronze to add brightness, warmth, and dimension, and is what I use when I create a halo eye. I know people love to do that with Astral solstice, but for me and my skintone, Astral solstice is just a lil to stark i think. But for my olivey skintone, the gold does such a lovely job warming up my any shade to compliment me.

In case you didn't know, the smoother textured special eye shadows are meant to be used wet to get maximum impact. If you use either water or a mixing medium and create a slurry with the shadow, it looks like molten metal. You can also use a glitter glue to help them stand out ;)

I think Pat Mcgrath would love this review. I myself am so incredibly pleased with your review of this palette. My collection of eyeshadows now pretty much only consists of pat mcgrath palettes and Natasha Denona. I buy (or am gifted) every eyeshadow palette that Pat releases, and a lot of ND. This made me think much more about the eyeshadows, because I pretty much take it for granted because I don't use anything else. You've brought back a lot of the joy of the experience of her eyeshadows, which is why I fell in love with them in the first place. I love the way you think about deep skin tones, too. I personally *love* the copper, and I thought it was so funny that you felt the camel matte and the bronze were a bit warm, because they are cool toned on my complexion. Thank you so much for making this review.

I've not got loads of makeup and I splurged on the Gold palette a while ago + a Mothership last Black Friday. Tbh what I discovered is that, even though I love the palettes, they weren't worth the money to me at all! I think my upper limit for palettes is about £40-45, and (while I learned the hard way) it does really lessen the pull of high end palettes and help me make better choices. Wish more videos about these kinds of palettes had discussion about the real cost like yours 🙂

I will agree with u.... I have been enamoured with pat' s makeup...and like most people my eyes been going to the colored makeup...like eyeshades and lipsticks...and then maybe blushes and such....so after getting membership V as my wedding palette ... I was sorely dissapointed in the Red shade .....the amount it infinitely creased on me...so I was really turned off from it....but having it for about almost 2 years ....i feel her pallets are good as an everyday look ....intricate but looking neutral...special but normal...looks are not out of the ordinary..... so to sum up my TED talk....u only need only 1 colored product sure it as bronzer blush and eyeshadow...it will serve it's purpose well and I did not accumulate random makeup....but I'm saying this as I have tried to get other makeup to make-up for the fact that i wanted to get something that doesn't crease...lol no luck there yet

Personally I think the weakness of the outer packaging is a fair criticism. Sometimes they arrive a little beat up. The palette is so heavy that the cardboard gets a beating in transit, and while I get it's literally a box for the palette to arrive in, Pat knows we all keep them! The artwork is really pretty and if you have more than one palette, it helps to immediately differentiate between them. I feel like it couldn't be that much of a cost burden to make them just a wee bit thicker.

I’m so glad you finally purchased a PMG palette! It’s difficult to explain how beautiful her shades are - I also have some indie shadows that are great but they’re not even close to her formulas. Her formulas are so rich but easy to blend, and patting the special shades over anything just takes them to another level. I feel like the indie shades take over if you try that, hers enhance but don’t overwhelm. They also last much longer. I’ve always wanted this palette, I have the two divine rose palettes and they’re so beautiful. Her VR Sextraterrestrial is the best mutichrome green to pink that I have - and I have several indies. Easiest to apply. Strong flip. Lasts the longest.

This sounds like it really would be everything I want in a palette, with all my favorite colors to choose from! This is going on my Christmas wishlist for sure! Also, your swatches and close ups and the shadow pairing swatches were VERY helpful. And I feel like your color was more true than other reviews I’ve seen, and compared to when I’ve swatched this palette in store. THANK YOU! Amazing content, per usual :)

I only have one Pat McGrath palette, the Divine Rose, and when I first bought it I thought I was absolutely nuts for spending so much on it. And when I first got it I thought to myself, these colors aren't so different from other palettes I can find, why did I do this. But over the time I've had it I found it's my one palette I always go to when I need to look put together, want that punch without the super vibrant colors I often go for, be it for work or weddings or something like that, or just want something easy and no fuss. I have to say out of all of the eye shadow I own it is the easiest for me to use they blend themselves and lend themselves to a one color look if I don't want to put a lot of effort in. Idk, I just think it's a stand out star in my collection even though I have palettes with crazy color stories or unbelievable shifts. I''m really glad I purchased it. I'm not jumping to go out and purchase more, but I am so satisfied I bought the one I have. There is also a topper shiny shade in the "special shade" section that makes any shadow I put it on top of look wet which I love! lol

The skinshow shades have surprised me over time by being some of my most used, versatile shades. She has one in each mothership palette and I think they are a bit of a different formula. They’re pretty sheer, and I’ve noticed in reviews that people with a wide range of skin tones can use them effectively in similar ways. I’m so excited to finally see this review of a Mothership palette and I’m looking forward to future thoughts and comparisons. Midnight Sun is in my top three most used Motherships (I have them all) and I find it has the most intriguing color story of my top three. My other two are Subliminal and Divine Rose I. Astral Solstice is definitely my favorite astral formula shade. Also, I always use jubilee as a topper when I want a more gold toned sparkle instead of the white gold of solstice, rather than building it to full opacity.

This is probably one of my favourite videos of yours - ever!! I LOVE that you review what you are interested in not just what's new. And, as someone who splurged to an absolutely unreasonable level on Pat McGrath goodness in 2021, I think you really did such a beautiful job describing the formulas because I was SHOOK too when I first touched those special shades... iwas like WHAT IS THIS?! but on the eyes, this magickal thing happens where the flaky/chyunkiness sort of MELTS onto my eyes and the effect is just... it's something so special. I really love them! But I expected them to feel so different after watching DOZENS of reviews..... you're the first one I've seen who really explained them in a way that I think super accurately describes them. That said, though, I apply all the metallics and shimmers with my fingers pretty much - and now you have me intrigued to try brushes..... :D Thanks for everything you make and the authenticity you share here, I try to never miss a video and you are my FAVE. :)

Interesting to hear your struggle with the color story. For me, whenever I see a green and a gold in the same palette, my first impulse is a green and gold look. I’d make a green, deep brown, and gold trio I think. I wish it was a magnetic palette like a ND one, because I think you’d find so much joy if you could deconstruct the palette and see them in different combos or mixed with your singles. ❤️

This is my absolutely favourite palette from pat. I use it mostly for work looks. One of my favourites is the mustard colour in the crease the green on the lid then take the gold and pat it over the green! It is absolute amazing! Another combo I really like is the mustard in crease again then the purple on 3/4 of the lid blended out softly then the gold on the inner corner and the rest of the lid! It is one of the looks I get most compliments for! Try the mustard with them! I have the same complexion like you and normally really don’t like these type of warm colours. But combined like I told you it is amazing!

The neutral special shade is the same as the one in the divine rose, and when you did the search for the shiniest eye shadow I did wonder how this one would stack up! I feel parasocially validated that you like it! 😀

It's actually more shiny in the midnight sun palette. I know they are called the same, but the one in the midnight sun is more flakey, has bigger particules and somehow is more shiny.

Oh my god I feel like a prophecy has come to pass! Hannah has a mothership palette after all these years!!! I was hoping you’d pick this one! Though I think Mothership I and III would also fill you with much joy (not that I’m encouraging the purchasing of more haha!!)

I think instead of answering the question, “is it worth it?”, it would be more helpful to know whether you’d purchase that same palette again, knowing what you know. OR whether you’d buy another PMG palette in future! Thanks so much for the thorough review - so helpful 💛

The way you described the Pat metallics reminds me of how I feel about Natasha’s metallics in the Biba palette, which surprises me and makes me believe that I have enough eyeshadows at this point

I dunno, I like these kinds of long form reviews. I'm not really interested in the palette itself, but I'm a fan of this kind of format that breaks down every bit of detail - why it is purchased, what kind of value does it bring to the consumer, etc. Even though this palette it's not something I would buy myself I still found myself watching hahaha

ok commenting halfway through to say YES loving that the metallics have blown you away, they're why i'm so happy with my holiday celestial odyssey palette because it's choc full of them. and yes, they apply best with a brush! so amazing. loving this video and your joy :)

Your reviews carry much more water for me than other reviewers because I truly believe you would only get and keep stuff that is very very good so I trust your opinions much more!! It helps someone like me who doesn’t know much about makeup and doesn’t have a lot of money to spend figuring out what I want make more efficient decisions in my beauty spending. I’m new to the channel so I don’t know yet if you’ve made a video like this before but I would love to see a video about your routine!

I own mothership 3, and 5-9. You described my feelings on the mothership palettes, perfectly. The formulas are perfection. Absolutely amazing. But the color stories never fully made sense to me. I always felt like there was a shade or 2 that were off. Until I started to use the shimmers/special shades in the crease and got more creative. Then it took my love to another level. Only palette I have difficulty with is divine rose 1. It’s just way too cool/mauvey for my extremely warm skin. Which is also funny, that mid tone camel shade pulls cool on me. I pulled midnight sun out! Using it tomorrow when I go out to dinner with a friend. ❤️ (the pale gold is a gorgeous brow bone highlight for me)

This was so helpful and informative. Midnight Sun has been calling to me more than any of the others, mainly for the red Matte, the purple and the green. The idea that the purple and green shades don’t work together with anything else in the palette for a cohesive look is really worth considering. I also really enjoyed hearing about the qualities of each shade individually- I think it has made me appreciate my Divine Rose 2 much more, and I can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow. I’m even more convinced now that I made the right choice in getting that one last year. I would love a whole series or long video, breaking down and walking us through your decision -making process that you went through when deciding which palette to get. I’m sure it’s more difficult without having them in hand and doing swatches, but I think it would be really enlightening. I like that you think everything through and really consider practically what looks you would do with a palette, instead of getting hung up on a the beautiful swatch pics online and jumping straight to “I must have this” (the way I do).

Hi Hannah,. I am so happy that PMG Monthership has been your choice of your channel budget expense. Despite Midnight Sun being an old release, hearing your breakdown on your thought process on choosing the right palette for you and on the different formulas has been so exciting. It also felt the stars aligned for Astral Solstice to come into your collection now as that wonderful neutral wet look shiny topper just as Cava and Sparks are getting full panned. Also, as someone who doesn't use much eyeshadows but am living vicariously through your channel this review has been a real treat! Your thoughtful sharing on how the expense of the palette has been out of your regular makeup expense range provides that extra touch of grounding in realism and makes this review even more relatable.

The gold looks great layered over the green! I watched Julia Adams do that look and copied it. This palette has confused me too, as someone who doesn’t really like warm tones, but it surprises me all the time. Loved this review, thank you. It was thoughtful and unlike others I’ve seen, and prompted me to subscribe xx

Hannah I just want to say, *watching this video* is a luxury. Just the lush b-roll, your precision prose on the nuances of color and texture, the State of Desire, and the care that you put into choosing this palette for both review and for yourself... and the fact that this sort of video is almost designed to not be popular on youtube. Like the Gucci ad campaigns, not having to care (much) *is* luxury. Chef's kiss. Addendum 1: Great, now you're making me want this palette (more than I did before. Your least favorite things about the color story are... my... favorite things... so. >.>) Addendum 2: You had best believe I was singing Journey's "Faithfully" to myself this whole review. x'D

This is my favorite PM palette as well!! It's such a great palette for my neutral loving heart but also allows me to add a little color if I so choose. I love to paint these shades with the Linda Hallberg pencils especially Altair Flash and Avoir Flash. They match the shades in this palette perfectly!! Thank you for another amazing review Hannah!!

I am so excited that you reviewed Midnight Sun!!! I've always had similar thoughts about PMG shadow palettes - thinking if I've tried indie brands and ND that I'd seen it all. You opened my eyes Hannah lol. The fact that you got so excited about the formula means that when the time is right and the colour story truly speaks to me I'll strike and try some PMG for myself. Thank you for your amazing content as always! Your eye look in this video is next level. Love you!!!

Very good, and in-depth review of this palette. I appreciate that you are reviewing a palette that was released previously as opposed to the latest collection. I own this palette and midnight sun is my most favourite out of all the mothership palettes as it's versatile palette, that can be worn everyday.

what a lovely review. I had fully accepted that i would never buy a pat mcgrath palette (mostly for the price and because i have really enjoyed the way i work with single shadows) but this in depth review of the one color story that has tempted me the most has been a wild ride. I have a very similar complexion to you (so much so that i already know i will be trying the rose inc concealer as soon as its available where i live) and a lesson that i have recently learned is that while i love the green/purple/red tones i need a very specific undertone to make them feel accessible and enjoyable to me. The current palette that i have built for me includes some really yelllow/warm golds and reds and no matter how much i enjoy them in theory the just dont work for me and i always end up depending on the cool grey, murky greens and cool purple to make me feel good in my look. This in depth review of the palette could not have come at a more fitting time and fits just so neatly in my recent introspection about the shadows that i own and use.

Midnight sun is my favorite PMG palette! I love the brick red matte and actually use it as a outer corner and deepens the look while making my green eyes pop. It is gorgeous!!! I love this palette so much! And that white special shade is everything! I am certain you will have a lot of use and keep enjoying it! Great choice! Love your videos always!!

Ahhh. This is the mothership I have been contemplating. I have Bronze Seduction. I love it. I personally find Pat McGrath worth the price because I have decluttered so many palettes over the years that make me wish I had just purchased a mothership. I've become so picky about eyeshadow. It has to really wow me to purchase. I covet the amazing singles I have accumulated over time but the gritty texture is my favorite. That formula stays so well on my eyes. Its like a pressed glitter but not. Its versatile. I keep the boxes in my makeup drawer. Eyeshadow made in Italy is *chefs kiss*

That was hands down, the best, most comprehensive review I have ever seen on a eyeshadow pallet! So much passion and thought when you talk in your videos, but this was really exquisite. You've inspired me to look at my purchases very differently, thank you.

I love love love how you wax poetic during your insanely thorough reviews. I know it's probably not realistic but I wish you could review all of the PMG palettes like this! I have the first two and am often stumped on how to approach them. This also helped me view Midnight Sun in a totally different way. I was never interested in it but now I am! Also, I'm sure it's on your radar but an insanely thorough review of the Isamaya palette would be GOLD.

Hi Han! Probably the most comprehensive review of a Pat palette I’ve seen, I appreciate your measured approach/ opinion. Sure the palette has been out a while, but I needed to know what you thought about it 😂 Totally agree with the the special shades, I had the same experience, I remember when I tried a mothership (2) for the first time, the expectation almost ruined it all for me. To me Pat’s formula is probably the best I’ve tried, the mattes blend themselves, the shimmers are exactly what I want, and the special shades are just that . It makes me feel more skilled than I am 😂 However I did pass along my one and only mothership, as I didn’t utilise it as much as I had hoped I would, I didn’t take the time to choose the right colour story for me. Seeing this video and how you swatched it out , has made me reconsider how I purchase larger palettes in future , so thanks for that! Previously I considered midnight sun not for me, but the possibility is there now. I can’t wait to see what you go on to create with it 💋

(Side note: my own magpie brain had a *very* similar reaction to yours when I saw the Gucci palette!) I’m glad you are enjoying your first palette from the brand. Thank you for such a thoughtful review.
