To be fair, from the wrong angle it looks like he missed the ball and just collided with the player. I'm not sure even then it should be a penalty! Maybe the ref had that poor view. But when you see it from the best angle, as VAR would have had access to, if they'd bothered, it's obvious he glances the ball before he touches the opponent. I personally don't like these been given as penalties, football needs to be careful going down this route, because this is something that is starting to ruin rugby. People are being penalised for accidental head clashes and in certain cases, been sent off even though the clash was accidental. It's really made me turn away from rugby. I know people love to laugh at Arsenal (I'm included in that), but this is not a direction you should want football to go in. There's already too much involvement from officials, accidental head clashes cannot be given as fouls

Which means they are now putting their heads in positions where contact is likely to be made, footballers are already con artists at buying fouls when attackers leave their legs dangling hoping for contact or even just throwing them selves to the floor to get a free kick/penalty. They'll do it with their heads if they think they will get penalties for it.

Maybe I don't disagree with your point but have you ever seen VAR taking 10mins to see if a player got a touch on the ball when they caught someone in the box? If so then the rules need to change, so if you catch someone in the box and get a touch it doesn't matter its a pen! That's called consistency.

The problem we have is the next defender to head an opponents head before the ball in the penalty area is a stonewall penalty. I doubt we will see that happen again soon. Also if contact is a penalty what is holding and grappling in the box? VAR should see who iniates initial contact and give the foul or penalty based on that. It's not going to happen because some lunatic thinks holding somebody for 5 seconds isn't holding. Premier League has caused these issues and money Talks.

There can be accidental clashes, where it is not clear who caused the offence (see kulu and gordon on the weekend). But this was a clear nistimed header that hit his opponent. It is very clearly a penalty, and quite bizarre that people would even question it

Anthony Taylor..... it's almost enough to describe what happened on it's own. Stating the obvious, a penalty (and arguably a red card) is the most severe punishment that can be metered out in a match because it invariably results in a goal which is the entire point of the game and yet, here we are applying that punishment for the most minuscule of infractions that wouldn't even warrant a free kick in general play. Makes a mockery of the game IMHO

Pedro should not have even been on the pitch given his attempt to elbow a Brentford player last time out. PGMOL is clearly corrupt as they insist that they are not incompetent. The difference between that & a standard clash of heads between two players contesting the ball is that there’s purposeful forward motion by Saliba in attempt to win the ball & he catches the player first. The ball then hits his head after Pedro gets there first. A clash of heads would be if they both jump up and clash whilst in the air & they are out of control of their motion.

The reason why yesterday was a pen & a standard clash of heads in the air is a stoppage of play & a drop ball is that yesterday saliba was in control of his body (wasn’t in the air when he made an attempt to intercept the ball & didn’t get there first). If both players were jumping & then they clash heads then it’s likely not a pen & is a stoppage of play drop ball etc.
