Best video I've seen on this channel. No "materiality" in sight nor affected ASMR narrations... what a refreshing change. Loved viewing this holiday retreat and hearing the architect's down to earth description.

What an other-worldly getaway location to build a cozy little shelter. I'm happy for the owners and anyone who might get to experience something like this in their future.

The home is a Refuge. It is nestled so beautifully in the foliage of the landscape. The interior design has a lovely simplicity or minimalism which doesn't compete with the external view. It's such a beautiful home! Bravo!

This is what it means to completely strip down to the essentials. No excess, no drama, no $8,000 sofas. Just a quaint home to walk around bare feet or sandals, connect with nature and forget about our struggles. If I visited there, I wouldn't want to leave.

All that said, the inclusion of some sort of sofa, or more comfortable seating would not be a bad idea. Something you could fall asleep on while looking out onto the water on a lazy afternoon would be bliss.

This cabin gave off a very Japanese vibe to me, with all that timber and the circular hood and the window frame.

Incredibly resolved design. I'm surprised he did not talk about the use of stained plywood throughout being such a massive material feature.

This is hands down one of the best project I've seen on this channel. What an incredible retreat to just pare back all the non-essentials of modern life and to regain the space to just think and live.

Wow wow I really liked this shack. Especially appreciated the work that two carpenters could do. The minimalistic design fit perfectly in the location. Built my own home without power so fully understand the workmanship. Wood is so warm and comforting. Too bad the outside could not be wood or at least wood color, it would blend in more.

Absolutely beautiful but like most of these videos you can’t get an overall view of what’s going on in the interior space. Plenty of details but where are we in relation to the whole. One more view of the roof please, NOT.

Beautiful space, although I can’t imagine what the wood countertop with an open stove is going to look like in a short while. And, seeing so many Australian project with indoor/outdoor space, and wondering if there are no bugs there? Also, curious, but is the house attached to bedrock?

Beautiful design, like a cinema viewing area with the nature as the screen. Very Japanese yet fits perfectly into the Australian landscape. Though, as an Australian, I must admit I spent the first 5 mins feeling highly anxious about what a fire hazard it must be and wondering how it was ever allowed! Great solution with the cladding! I felt a nod to Hanging Rock with the music choice, beautiful 😉

Structure is anchored to the ground, yet floats. It's footprint is non-obtrusive, yet looks sound. Inside and outside spaces flow nicely. You can't put a price on the view. Designing it to live in yourself allows experimentation. We grow as designers when we dream big.
