While I agree that it’s preferable, I doubt that it’s “more productive”. What reason would you need to keep your screen private other than being “non-productive”? Like……browsing social media? =D. I’m sure Apple has logged statistics on this comparing open office to closed office. I’m sure if they saw a decrease in productivity, they would have changed their concept.
@rasmusrasmusson2 жыл бұрын
@@mattc16 It's in general considered the other way around, that productivity decreases when you move to an open office, because people get disturbed a lot easier. The privacy concern is psychological, mostly, to have your back protected, but also because you may not want everything to be on display. E.g. an email, or just feeling surveilled. And yes, social media, as people take breaks sometimes. A bad manager tries to monitor the staff at all times, a good manager focuses on productivity.

Agree, my extrovert friends and I keep getting distracted while my introvert friends keep getting disturbed. Would be great if their commitment to sustainability involved not trying to get people to buy a brand new phone every year... or only making the batteries replaceable after they came under major fire for their irreplaceability. I’m surprised when people think that Apple is driven by money, when if you look at the history and Steve Jobs’s story, one would understand that money is simply the byproduct of immense creativity, teamwork and innovation. Microsoft, in contrast, was always the company who prioritised profit. Apple prioritised design and simplicity.
@gusfring962 жыл бұрын
@@maryna4338 you are describing Apple during Steve Jobs' time. Yes he really made sure Apple was at the top of innovation during his tenure as CEO, but it went downhill after his death. @@gusfring96 Its true, Apple isn't the same without Steve. But Apple was a creation of so many people who worked together as a team, and none of them would be able to achieve such incredible things without each other. Steve is not an exception to that. People like Jony Ive and Tim Cook are really essential in this, among all others. Apple still has Steve's fingerprints all over it to this day. He really succeeded in building a company which can innovate and reinvent things over and over. It's true, some products are overpriced. But even when Steve was there those mistakes were sometimes made. They're just mistakes, miscalculations, lack of clear thinking from people who decide the price. Nonetheless, the company still designs and creates truly beautiful products, and I think Steve would be proud of some of them, like AirPods, for example. The company has gone through so many transformations: changes of CEOs, boards of directors... there were many mistakes along the way, and many lessons learned. I think the company lives on as an expression of Steve's soul. And let's admit it, it still creates wonderfully designed products, and quite the variety of them.

There are several errors in the video; besides mixing footage from other parts of the campus while describing another (ex. showing the Caffé Macs doors for the Steve Jobs Theater), a couple of things: 1. The Steve Jobs Theater is still called that, it is not "now known as the Apple auditorium". 2. The main Caffé Macs isn't the only restaurant; they do have a couple w/in the center that are specific food themes, Japanese and Latin cuisines. 3. The parking garage below the ring is two stories, but there is also a full parking garage located on one end of the campus. There's plenty of available footage of the Health and Wellness Center; the one shown is the studio in Culver City for Fitness+. The Visitor Center is the only place the public can go; "without a pass" -- this pass would be for external business partners only. Even if you know someone that works at Apple you won't be able to go into the main campus. One exception is a Friends and Family series of weekends that they allowed people in, but that was pre-pandemic, and was still limited where people can go. There's also available footage of the AR room in the Visitor Center, and the experience is nothing like VR shown "flying" through the Steve Jobs Theater. It's a 12k lb aluminum table of the campus, and using an iPad has AR overlays of the campus showing various aspects (ex. temperature control, lighting scenarios, and office layout), including a few Easter Eggs thrown in for fun.

If anything honestly, it would improve them. (Insert complicated explanation of how depth perception works here.) It would also improve them because looking at them would make your brain go, "Oh look, the company I work for cares about my safety." Which yes, ends up helping sightlines. ... because slightlines on their own are meaningless; it's us humans that give value to them and that value is semi controlled by our emotions.

Open office plans are the worst thing. If they want people to actually come up with good ideas and reach their fullest potential the people should have their own space without noise etc so that they can actually deep focus on what’s happening in their brain.

I hate the whole “eco-friendly” facade Apple is putting on. The resources that it costs to; build those solar panels, excavate the dirt, to construct the building, moving water for that artificial pond, the list goes on and on. None of those are eco-friendly at all. It’s a marketing ploy used to make people believe you have a good company.

There's a video of Steve Jobs discussing the future Apple Park on KZbin. It's humbling to see a such a notable individual, who is clearly ill, take time out of his busy day to stand in a public hall and petition the Cupertino City Council for a building permit. Such an activity would be beneath other CEOs, who would leave such trivial matters to corporate representatives.

Spreading out the workers this way makes it very hard for them to interact with each other in person. Whereas a skyscraper with elevators makes it easy. It also uses up much more space than a skyscraper uses.
