Used so many of your vids drywalling a room with ceilings and uneven framing by the builder(utility room in basement). I found you bids after I started job and realized how hard it was going to be. Worked out well for an amateur. Thanks! You don't want to see how much mud I went through (and sanding) though!

Good to watch. Have been toying with getting a mud runner of some sort and some flushers to go with the corner roller I already have. I generally only have to coat 1 more time after the initial tape/rolling knifing though, kinda why I drag my feet. Keep up the good work!

I personally like to do hand angles i use to flush but find i can get a better angle by hand takes a lil bit longer since u have to wait for 1 side to dry but also find it easier to sand just a personal preference thou but if u need a job done quicker deff the best way to go great vid

Been hand taping for 12 years. Just bought my first set of corner tools. Much faster. I laughed when you said puking down the wall. I had a 6" puddle of mud in one corner and it rained mud down on a few walls, did the first coat of corners on the main floor of a house the other day. Was a rough start. Actually even thought I had made a mistake buying the cheaper set. But said "f**k it this has to work" and kept going. By the last couple rooms I figured it out and I was producing nicer corners. Whole house took 45 minutes I think. Good luck doing that by hand hah, like you said nothing you can't sand out later so keep moving.

They work okay if everything is more or less square, but even if your just going to use the compound tube spend the money and get the mud runner heads. And if you do it every day, just get boxes or the mud runner. The mud runner is God!

Have you ran the mudshot? I’ve been running one for two months and I like it so much more than the runner.
@KevinsDisobedience
@KevinsDisobedience 3 жыл бұрын
No, I was going to buy one, but I didn’t like that you couldn’t run over the corner without adding more mud. Sometimes a corner just needs cleaned up. But with the Mudshot the pressure would automatically add more mud, correct? I do love the idea of not having to twist the handle, sometimes that’s hard when it gets wet.
@hektr34
@hektr34 3 жыл бұрын
It has a check valve to regulate mud flow or shut it off, when the framing is extremely off I run my mud super thin which requires a clean up pass so I just close it and no more mud is added just cleans up the angle.
@KevinsDisobedience

Thank you for your videos--they're the best on KZbin, IMO. Two situations I'd love to see you address in your videos (if you're looking for new ideas) are the following: 1) I have open wood stud wall that had 1/2" plywood added for shearwall, and plan to add 1/2" sheetrock on top of that. The existing window sill of the old double hung window will end up too shallow to cover the edges of plywood and sheetrock. I don't want to remove the old sill since it's a part of the larger exterior sill from 1905. Have you ever had to make sill extensions? 2) I have an open wood stud wall in same house, previously lath and plaster; studs are full 2" rough and not perfectly flat for sheetrock--all different thicknesses to shim. Any experience with sheetrock shims? Thanks!

Hi, I too live in Vancouver and I would like to know how to fix a bad drywall repair. While adding mud to the drywall I didn't realise that it was not flat as it should be in some parts and so I let it dry. After I sanded it a bit but decided it was somehow going to look better after the primer. After I applied the primer, it has now become harder to sand and I have realized my problem. But what should I do now? Continue sanding with a block. or use an electric sander?

say it beats hand taping but gotta factor in all the passes your doing pumping the mud out goin back picking the corners the extra slop on the floor the expense of the tools im hawk and trowel taper in connecticut to each there own i understand you can get it down to 2 passes or even have a better system like the mud runner that combines the mud tube with an angle head on the end. Do one side then the other all have to do is sand it minor touch up if needed and your done jm2c. like your videos btw just saying based on my experience and i use the mud tube but only for tape coat with 90d angle head.

In the video it looks the corners are all flat to begin with. What about inside corners where the wall edge, ceiling edge, or both are tapered drywall edges? Does the corner flusher fill in the taper or does that cause any issues? How about hand finishing a corner? Does the technique change if you have a tapered edge to fill? I understand the tapered flat joints vs. flat butt joints from your videos, but I don’t think I’ve herd you mention anything specific to butt corners vs. tapered corners vs. half and half corners.

@vancouvercarpenter
@vancouvercarpenter 3 жыл бұрын
I don't use finish mud very often. I like to be able to tape with all purpose in a pinch if that's the only bucket I choose to bring on the job. So it's really about just carrying less stuff around. There isn't a huge difference between All purpose light and light finish muds except for adhesion.

Here in Michigan all purpose is strictly for taping and paper faced metal bead because it shrinks soo much. I like to use USG mid weight cause it’s a bit harder than the light mud and doesn’t get dinged up as much as the light finish mud.... generally I’ll use lightweight on patches

@ryeweskey
@ryeweskey Жыл бұрын
If you're going to finish coat with lightweight Blue AP synko make sure you're neat and tidy.. thin the mud down to act like a finishing mud. Otherwise your arms will take a beating sanding lol. Finish mud sands easily. Also easy to oversand whereas blue AP you can undersand. They also have different strengths when it comes to resisting wall dings. If you were to 3x coat corner beads with finish mud they would be softer than baby shit and chip whenever you look at them wrong. Finish mud is best served as skim coat on final coat after the joint is built up (with a denser mud) and basically flat already requiring the skim only or all coats on ceilings, easy to sand, easy to apply, can't go wrong on higher up stuff that doesn't take abuse, ceilings, bulkheads, etc.

@@vancouvercarpenter The key is to have a narrow fill of mud. If you fill the corner the way your tube fills it (1" wide) then a pass with the wing tool will do an excellent job, with feathered edges and all. You need to press it in there firmly. Because the wing tool bends it is less prone to trouble with slightly out of square corners.
