Inside Look: Meindl Antelao GTX

Have had these for a couple of years. I replaced my all-leather B/C Meindl ComfortFit boots with these. Much lighter and softer, easier to maintain. Still stiff and tough enough for backpacking over rock gardens et al. Very pleased with these ones, they get the same job done as more heavyweight boots, but are simultaneously super-comfy and light. Highly recommended.

I purchased a pair of thease tremendous boots,after watching this and a call for a bit of advice from the top folks at Trekitt . Super fitting for wide feet, the only gripe for me was the footbed I found it too hard, after swapping for some Sidas the boots feel perfect. Top Service as ever from Trekitt .

Great boot..got these from you guys in November after a 3 month search to find a suitable replacement for my old Meindls..I've got big (and wide) feet, UK 12 ish....tried Salomon, Aku, Salewa, Scarpa....none fitted well enough (nearest were the Salomon Quest 4d but nothing like as well made imho as the Meindl)..found the Meindl Air Revolution Ultra GTX (and the Tonale model) were really comfortable but much too lightweight for my winter scottish trips..finally tried these Antelaos and if you want a properly tough boot but that gives that flexibility and lightness to make them comfy for a whole days walking I really recommend these for those with wider feet...in an ideal world I might have the Ultra Air Rev as well for lower fast hikes in decent weather but tough to justify that...great service from the Trekkit team (as I sent back the Salomons and got a credit really quickly etc) before buying these .

same problem with the lace loop here, but finally I got it fixed by Meindl under guarantee. Always wonder how to treat the suede best- wax or just waterproofing spray?

Bought from you guys, great service and I can honestly say the best boots I've owned, I've got extra wide feet and these fit like a glove, very comfy straight out of the box, when my wife's boots wear out we will be replacing them with the womens version 👍

My favorit shoe for long multiday tours. Perfekt for crossing the alps (e5) or someting like the gr221 or gr20 hikes. For faster hiking out of the mountains i would prefere a lighter scarpa oder salomon boot.

Used these for the first time recently, two days in the Lakes in very wet terrain, they performed really well and are as described by Paul. However the fabric lace loop, designed to pull the heel in, tore away on one boot and already looks like coming away on another. I wonder if a different loop method might work better?

Hi David, thanks for your comments about the Antelao boots and I'm glad they worked out for you. However, I'm disappointed to hear that the lace loop failed so easily, that sounds like a warranty issue and they need to be returned. Paul.

Great review, looking at purchasing these from you, to Australia with the care products. I like the women's colourway better, if I am a us 9.5 is the equivalent width the same? And also what's the difference with the pro model (aside from the leather upper) awesome channel.

Unfortunately we don't ship to Australia, but we appreciate the support! The width and overall fit will differ between mens and womens-I would try a pair on if you can before purchasing. The Pro model is stiffer and will accept crampons, whereas the standard model won't.

Provided they're a good fit for your feet, the Antelao would be suitable for EBC. We'd always recommend getting boots properly fitted, especially in this case as they'll be constantly on your feet for two weeks straight!

After a few trips with the dog for a walk, the same failure. The shoes did not see the mountains and are no longer suitable for walking. The loop broke on one shoe, the other looks not much better. I think that the model should be withdrawn from sale because the Chinese shoes for $ 10 are of better quality, not the German Meindl for $ 280. I do not recommend !!

Hi Michael. It's a real shame that you have experienced some issues with your Meindl boots, however, I can assure you that such problems are very rare and generally speaking, Meindl footwear is exceptional. Paul.
