It is a great jacket for static/slow moving use. Ben had it on for a few hours while just standing still presenting the video and was perfectly warm. Harry

I love down jackets, and agree that they're brilliant as an outer layer...until you're wearing a rucksack. I've just sent a 3 week old jacket back to the manufacturer after 2hrs with a camera bag on my back. Had a similar situation last year with a day pack on another down jacket. The packs just rub holes into them. Think you have to wear a shell if you wear a pack, unless I'm doing something wrong.

It depends on the jacket. I have a super lightweight Montane down jacket that has a relatively fragile outer fabric and wouldn't use a heavy pack with it, however, there are others (such as this one) that are quite a bit thicker and more durable. Harry

@@trekitt Thanks for that - my first one was a Montane featherlite, and now a Fjern Arktis (both lovely jackets, but clearly not usable with a rucksack)

Fantastic video! Would this jacket be warmer than the ME Xeros? How different are those two jackets, they seem fairly similar on paper?

Pretty similar, but the Infinity Alpine might just take it if you're being picky. The Xeros feels more mountain-focused and isn't something you'd necessarily wear around town, whereas the Infinity is less extreme but arguably more versatile. Harry

I am choosing between this and the Rab Valiance. Have both got a rip stop material? Which is warmer and more waterproof?

Neither are ripstop, but both fabrics feel more than durable enough for their intended use. The Valiance is waterproof whereas the Infinity Alpine *technically* isn't. Warmth wise, they're pretty much identical, although if I had to choose it would probably be the Infinity Alpine. Harry

would this be considered warm enough for a UK winter or would i be better going for a warmer jacket such as the neutrino? is there a significant difference in warm or negligible? thanks

Definitely warm enough for UK winter in most cases. The Neutrino is warmer looking purely at the amount of down fill 212g vs 175g of 800fp, but the Infinity Alpine also has the advantage of the Gore-Tex Infinium (windstopper) which will help significantly in overall weather protection, as well as tougher 30D overlays for better durability. If you were being more active I'd choose the Infinity Alpine, but if static warmth is what you're aiming for then the Neutrino would fit the bill. You could also consider the Infinity Jacket with a beefy 250g of 800fp if you really needed a lot of warmth, but in most cases it might be considered too warm for UK conditions unless you plan on bashing out some Scottish Winter Classics.

I need a winter jacket for every day use (no mountaineering 😅) but one that can withstand temperatures to -5C . Which Rab jacket would you recommend?

Which jacket is the better all round this one or the neutrino ?

Neutrino has more insulation but no Gore membrane; Infinity Alpine has greater weather resistance thanks to its membrane but not as much down. Both similarly versatile, it just depends what you value more. Harry
