I have stayed here many times. All the way back in the mid 90's. The staff is always super cool! Including letting me drop off my luggage early in the morning, way before my check in time and hold on to my suitcase after check out, let me explore the city, which allowed me pick up my stuff before leaving the city, late at night, free of charge!

This hotel is super cool! It certainly has a retro look to it but I can see why some people would think it's creepy.

When I’ve traveled to NYC the last few times I’ve been staying in Air b&b’s in Jersey City just because it was definitely less expensive but the commute time was painful. This place definitely checks all the boxes for me. All I need is a clean place to stay, in Manhattan and inexpensive but also you get this amazing experience. Definitely considering staying here on my next visit. Thanks for the video on the Carlton Arms.

It was so much fun showing you the rooms we had decorated in years past at the Carlton Arms and we are so glad you were able to highlight this amazing hotel on your channel as it certainly is a unique place to stay and the people who run it are so nice. Extra Extra good!

Me and my wife stayed at the Carlton Arms in 1989. We had a room just across the reception, it was the “bar” room. Complete with a bar with bottles, beer signsand glasses. There were wineglasses glued to the ceiling, the bathroom door had a mannequin through it, half/half. So we woke every morning looking at a mannequin ass🤪. A very special place.

I did stay there 4 years ago, cool place and great staff. You should bring some earplugs, though, as this part of the city really never sleeps. Still, I had a great time visiting.

I stayed there in 2009 - looks like it hasn't changed much - it was a very cool experience, since there's no more Chelsea Hotel. At least it's original, if not the cleanest place on earth

We are staying at The Carton Arms, right this moment-- in The Submarine Room! A couple of notes-- First, many of the reviews are inaccurate. The rooms, and the rest of the hotel, are perfectly clean. They're just old. The fixtures are old, and they look it. But they do a nice job of keeping everything neat and tidy. One person said you have to wear sandals in the showers. That's ridiculous. And there's no concern that people are going to break into your room because the lock doesn't work. We've met a bunch of the people here, and it's actually a markedly quiet, modest group of people. We expected a lot of dope smoking and partying. Absolutely none of that. Instead, a lot of taking advantage of the free coffee that's available 24 hrs. The neighborhood is kind of noisy, so if you stay here on a weekend night, you'll get noise from bars on the street. But not from your neighbors in the hotel. The staff is super-friendly. When you get here you get a handful of keys so you can walk around and choose which room you want. And about the art. There's no shortage of creepy art. Some of the rooms aren't for the faint-of-heart. But here's the thing about the art-- it's good. For real. It's interesting, funny, and even exciting to look at. We think it's all great.

Way too dark and creepy for me. Like a flop house, everything ancient & coated in a hundred layers of paint. An addict's nightmare, I don't have to live like that anymore.

Highly original! I can understand why it wouldn't be for all tastes but I'd stay there in a heartbeat. Having stayed in shared bathroom lodging numerous times before it's not an issue to me but when you're spending your own money it's an individual decision as to what your comfort requirements are.

Wow! This is so cool! Love the art and history of the place. But I'd need my own bathroom lol. Would love to sit and listen to stories from the manager of the different people who stayed at the hotel, must have been lots of interesting and fun folks. Way cool to know James & Karla designed one of the rooms. I agree, they rock! I'm a big Hudson fan, he's too adorable! Jon it would be great to see Adriana's reaction too of the hotel bcz she's also an awesome artist. Maybe you guys can visit again together and share her thoughts on the different art pieces, paintings, and rooms? Thank you for sharing this unique and amazing place with us. Definitely will be on my list of places to visit the next time I'm in NYC.

I stayed in this hotel in 1993, for two weeks... long time ago. It was my first trip to NYC, when I had 18 years old. When I reached the hotel, they gave me 3 room keys, and ask me to choose the one I want. It was definitly one of the Cheapest hotel at that time. One of the flaw, is the lack of air conditioning. So in summer, it may be very hot to stay there. Maybe it has changed these days, but I didn't see any air conditioning in your video. Will I go back to this hotel ? Probably not. It was perfect when I was 18, but today, I would prefer to stay in a hotel in Long Island City.

This is far from budget : Almost 400 dollars Canadian dollars per night for a single bed and shared bathroom? Nope. That's the problem with NYC. The food and the entertainment fit all budgets and are amazing. But the lodging is way too expensive.
