Throughout this video it has been said that the architects designed the buildings structure. Please try to understand that architects have absolutely nothing to do with a buildings structural design . All design related to earthquake, wind loading, foundations etc is done by civil/structural engineers NOT architects. Architects only design the layout and general shape of the building. Please give credit to engineers for what is actually the most difficult part of designing a skyscraper

Architects and engineers work collaboratively to come to a structural solution that works with the architectural design. Don't down play the architects role as just designing "the layout and general shape of the building". That's naive and uninformed. Engineers are equally as important but don't be salty and reduce the architects role.

@freetrader0000
@freetrader0000 4 жыл бұрын
I spent an earthquake in a relatively short building. I was only in the 9th floor and it wasn't a huge earthquake. However, the swaying could be felt a lot more, we had nausea, and every rumble and noise gave me little confidence on high rise buildings. I'm sure I would've been more calm and composed in the ground floor. I later found out that only houses fell down, and that supposedly high rise buildings were safer. I guess the main issue is my fear of heights!

I don't understand why people would want to live that high up. What happens if there's a fire at 3am on the 20th floor and you're on the 67th? You're pretty much dead if the fire spreads to the staircase. Ever heard the 911 calls on 9/11 from people on high floors? That would make you think twice about living high up, it's scary af!

I have a view of this building from my windows. It's really impressive. The view from the sidewalk across the street from it, as well as the other super tall new building down the street, gives me a little vertigo. We were going to a concert at Carnegie Hall, before things shut down, and we both had the same reaction. You almost can't bend your neck far enough back to look all the way up there. It's pretty cool. We live in a highrise now. We have friends that live on the 55th floor in a building in that neighborhood. Where else but Manhattan can you live that high up and have an obstructed view. I love the city, covid-19 won't scare me away. I'll be the last to leave. It's awesome here. There's no place like it, not even close.

So, just how many multi millionaires/billionaires actually are in America , in New York that 1) want to live in it 2) fill all these apartments in these buildings Will all of these buildings that cost billions to build and then need billionaires to fill them( which billionaire is gonna want to have the ground floor) finally push all essential workers OUT of Manhattan ? Manhattan is only so big..it doesn’t have enough land to keep building outwards so they go upwards..with each new billion dollar build it creates more Uber rich areas that only billionaires can live in. Shouldn’t these construction companies/hedge fund managers be building GOOD DECENT affordable houses for ‘normal people’. I’m sick of seeing vids like this of ‘THIS IS WHAT YOU’LL NEVER HAVE’ so we’ll just show you how billionaires live.

I'd buy a nice 1200-1400 2 bedroom condo about 15 stories up in a 25 story building ($100k for furnishings), with a good-not great-view in the City. With the spare change, I'd buy a small condo next to a golf course in a gated community north of Cape Canavarel Of course, I'd also buy the one bedroom (with bunk beds), large kitchen, and two car garage, near a Rocky Mtn Ski Town. Then, too, I'd buy a 15 year old well kept Nordhavn 60 motor yacht and moor it somewhere in the Puget Sound. And with the money left over, I'd buy approx five thousand ounces of gold. Reality is, I'm lucky to have low house payments on a house with 2 small bathroom without ventilator fans.

0:14 *Why does America compete to compare where it cannot even do so anymore?* Burj Khalifa almost doubles this building in height at 2,717 feet. As for the width, it had no intention of being thin, a title which is held by Brighton's i360 tower at only 12meters. America doesn't even come top ten in the world's list of tallest buildings with an OCCUPIED floor. The One Trade Centre had to install a 420 feet spire to remain relevant, and still couldn't come close to the top 5 tallest. US skyline is dead.

These multi million dollar apartments that have sprung up all over NYC in the past 15/20 years are bought by people who might occupy them 3/4 months of the year. Meanwhile “normal” people are being squeezed out of Manhattan thru higher and higher cost of living. Iconic 5th Ave.stores are closing permanently (e.g. Henri Bendel, Lord & Taylor ) iconic hotels (e.g, Plaza, Waldorf=Astoria) are being turned into ultra expensive apartments with reduced rooms, there are fewer live theatres than 25 years ago and of course major movie theatres have been gone for many years (last one was the Ziegfeld) . Times Square is now a mix of Vegas and Disneyland. Don’t know what the future of the city is but it sure will be very different to what previously made it so famous.
