Pixar may have found a money glitch here. They can just make a new Inside Out movie every couple years, with whatever problem Riley has at that point in her life, and there are gonna be a huge market who will find that relatable, every, single, time. A belief is a drive in life. An opinion is simply something you feel at some point. Opinions can be turned into beliefs, but they are usually formed with moral implications, not pure feelings. Example: The "I am a good friend" belief drives you to try and be there for people, listen to them, and sometimes compromise your wants for their needs. It's far more complex and can lead to both positive and negative emotions through implication. "Homework should be illegal" isn't a belief. It's a frustration that comes to pass. It's fleeting and not something that drives Riley to do something. They added the belief system without actually giving it a proper line to draw between opinion and belief.
@princessnazario259724 күн бұрын
Agreed! I think the reason why they had those scenes was mainly for comedic effect, though it still would've been better if they made a distinction in a funny and clever way. After the "homework should be illegal" scene, you could have Joy awkwardly say "Oh, that's just an opinion!" And say the same thing with the get up and glow scene. Then it could cut to the belief scene with her meeting Bree and Grace.

@wauknows77282 ай бұрын
Well, actually, in the second film they showed that these emotions were there, but just not as present as the main emotions. And to be honest, I don't think it's such a bad thing that the makers added new emotions, because otherwise they would still have to continue the story with fear, joy, sorrow and anger, which would have been difficult and added something fresh .
@ClockMaster-mq2hm2 ай бұрын

@wauknows7728 but they were still present, despite never being so whatsoever in the first movie, nor in any teenager in the first movie. It also makes no sense for anxiety and the others to be completely new emotions since anxiety isn't an independent emotion like joy or fear. It's more like a combination of emotions. How would it be if Inside Out 2 just had the emotions chaotically being temporarily combined together when Riley goes through the usual puberty emotional teen stuff instead of what we got?

@princessnazario259724 күн бұрын
Definitely agree. While I think the movie does a great job at displaying the inner emotions of a teen in high school, people need to remember that teens are still just kids(especially 13 year olds) and the conflict of the movie doesn't just come from "puberty" but the things going on around Riley just like the first movie. You can't just make a movie unique by it being coming of age because lots of movies are about teenage girls and puberty(Turning red came out from the same studio here not too long ago). But not a lot of movies provide the emotional journey of how to deal with new situations and solve problems regardless of your age as a child. It's still a good movie, but could've done more with the worldbuilding, pacing and some characters outside of the emotions. For example, they could've had the runaway emotions visit the Friendship island to see how Riley's treatment of her friends was affecting the island. It could also display how as Riley loses her sense of self, family island grows smaller due to her being afraid of growing up and being on her own constantly worried about what her superiors think of her(while learning that she can always ask her parents for help while she can; you could've had a cute scene where sadness has her text or call her Mom before Anxiety makes her break and enter). It also would've been nice to get a scene exploring why Riley is so eager to impress people to fit in rather than believing in her own capabilities. While Riley does make a mistake that embarrasses herself one or two times(ie talking to her friends with the teacher in the room) her peers don't do much to help. Especially her older ones; Valentina's friends have no right to blame Riley for the coach taking away their phones before skating lines when they were going to do skating lines anyway because it's a Hockey camp. Valentina's asshole friends also heighten Riley's anxiety regularly. This indirect peer pressure is another common but overlooked factor of anxiety, which is external influence. Riley's anxiety is spiked because of other people's opinions, when the girls talk about what the Coach thinks about them Riley instantly becomes self conscious and second guesses all her capabilities in her craft, which is a very relatable feeling. The senior players don't even do it intentionally either, they just happen to nearly be just as immature when it comes to talking to kids younger than them, and Val realizing this and standing up for Riley at the end would've provided a really nice message about how words matter especially when you're in a position of power over people younger than you along with learning to be considerate of other people's feelings. It can also teach kids that even figures of authority can be wrong and don't dominate your self - worth, it can teach kids to think more critically about the people that are older and more experienced than you. And as for worldbuilding, it would've been great for opinions and beliefs to be specified. Opinions should probably have their own inner system called the 'Opinion archives' with the inner workings of Riley's kind using these scrolls of opinions gained from her life experience to influence her Belief system. Opinions and Beliefs can also be distinguished from each other with Opinions being short term while Beliefs are long term(which can also explain how she can still recall memories from her belief system). Anxiety could've broke into this archive and used all of her negative opinions gained from her worser memories to further influence Riley's belief system without having to constantly be at the Control panel. This could further the stakes in Joy's struggle against Anxiety. You could also have more in depth conversations between Joy and Anxiety, with Anxiety caring too much about what other people think about Riley because she is scared of how Riley will be treated in the future. Joy could be a foil to that maybe because she's scared for how Riley's changing opinions about her friends and family could treat them in the future. You could add another message about how self preservation is important(which is why fear and anxiety are important) but never when it causes you to loose your entire self in the process of trying to fit in.

I just personally thought Riley’s entire plot was solely focused on hockey and seemed to have no where near as much depth or complexity as the first movie. Outside of anxiety (who I assume was made to be unbearable) the other characters like Envy and ennui seemed beyond irrelevant, especially given that ennui seems to be a ‘sense or state’ not an emotion in its own right. That being said maybe I need to watch it again to get a better feel…

I hate how out the end they say it’s not happening right now so don’t worry about it, that’s so unhealthy

What do you mean "it's so unhealthy"??? They definitely need to stop anxiety, and yes, that phrase "it's not happening right now" is very helpful, because all of these unrealistic images of the worst outcome of whatever problem there is really aren't going to become true any time soon, no matter what. Yes, you shouldn't leave all your worries and problems, using that phrase, but I don't see them doing that. Instead they ask Anxiety what other things they need to do, and she says them about Spanish test. They use her help to solve problems, but they stop her, when she panics too much about something not really serious, and it's right thing to do, it's kind of what everyone should be doing. Don't let your anxiety take over you, but use her to your advantage (and don't forget, that in case of this movie anxiety isn't *only* very bad and unhealthy, it also has good sides(although I do agree, that they didn't show properly what good she does for Riley, but it is what it is)).

Inside Out 2 just didn't sit right with me. I didn't really care for it. The first movie as great, but the sequel felt unnecessary.

I love both the first and second movies, both are great and touching masterpieces. Inside Out 2 definitely deserves to be called the best Pixar sequel ever! (my opinion)
