Do I think Inside Out NEEDS a sequel? No. But is it WRONG to have one? Also no. I feel like Inside Out is a film with a very simple yet also complicated premise. All the emotions are inside your head, and they direct your life. You almost can't go wrong with this. It's not like Toy Story 4, this film can and should work wonders. There's no reason why they'd fail. Honestly, I'm more nervous about Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2 than anything else.

I don’t think emotions will move out. These are the core 5. I feel like the new emotions will either be birthed by the core 5 or they will change themselves. Shame is a form of fear and love is a form of joy. Hate is a form of anger, annoyance is from disgust and envy from sadness.

Since her parents have the same set of emotions and supposedly grown-up, I don't see Riley having new emotion characters, but diving deeper into the different emotions she already has, with them holding new roles, bearing new responsibilities, causing chaos, not working together etc.

Wouldn't Shame be Disgust? It would just be disgust aimed at oneself. I have heard a theory where new emotions happen when the five basic ones merge. Fear + Anger = Hate. Sadness + Fear = Anxiety. Joy + Disgust = Intrigue. Shame could be when Disgust and Sadness merge.

I believe most of those emotions are combined feelings. Like at the end of the film when they showed the new orbs and they were mixed colors. Love (On the believe that love is many emotions into one) could be mixed with every single emotion to make one single orb. Embarrassment, could be Disgust and Sadness. Guilt, could be Fear, and sadness. Maybe even Disgust given the context. Shame, definitely is Fear, and disgust.

I'd like to see the Emotions pitted against Logic. Now that Riley is older, her higher functioning brain is stronger and she's able to make more complex reasonings. Thus the Emotions push hard against Logic, leading to the mood swings that teenagers are known for. Then at the end, they learn how to strike a balance. Maybe Logic melds into each of the Emotions, giving Riley better emotional control, or maybe Logic melds into the control panel.

Something I still don’t understand tho it’s that, if Riley is getting new emotions, where are those emotions in their parents head? Since their parents are full adults, shouldn’t they have all the emotions? Or are those “new” emotions just emotions that come and goes?

i think the issue with adding in new emotions is the fact that in the parents portion of emotions, nothing is developed as far as other emotions, or at least from what we can see. Meaning we can't assume there are any new emotions due to a lack of change in the parents version of headquarters. Ex.) Both Dad and Riley have Anger as an emotion, but if there's no new emotions for dad than how can there be any change in emotions growing up for Rile? However, a concept has come to mind that the new emotions are also located at a separate headquarters which is linked either via train or another method (Considering the tricky situation that formed from the first movie). Keep in mind that certain islands were also linked to certain memories as well as emotions, like goofball island was obviously created from a goofy memory which was factored by joy. I'd like it suggest an emotion which i think a lot of the older generation might resonate with, which is Grey or Maturity. Now that Riley has come of age, she may be introduced into a work environment and i feel that grey would be a perfect color to link with this. There could be an entire island dedicated to some random job she has like a pizza place that's being run by maturity. Maybe i'm just rambling though.

Apart the emotions dont work, but together they work, that is why in the fathers mind you really see when he puts the foot down all his emotions are shown to be "angry" but in a controlled way.

I love the idea of the Inside Out movies taking on the emotions people experience during different stages of life. The concept of watching Riley go through adolescence and the emotions she goes through in Inside Out II gets me excited. But later films could take on later stages of life, like young adulthood and watching Riley navigate being on her own for the first time and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with that stage of life. Young adulthood is a scary time for many people, and often it can feel like the safety net we had as kids has disappeared alongside the sometimes crushing pressure of building a successful career for ourselves. Riley could experience new emotions such as loneliness and anxiety/panic- a much more intense version of Fear. Watching Riley’s emotions as they navigate this scary new stage of life would make for a fantastic Inside Out film.

The issue is, in the first movie they were trying for "universal" emotions, but shame, love, and empathy are not universal emotions. Love is *nearly* universal, but not fully there. Same with empathy. And a lot of people have no shame at all.

The problem with adding new emotions is that her parents only had the 5. It should be more like 2 or more emotions pushing buttons and pulling levers at the same time since emotions are not one dimensional as we grow up. Instead of the memory orbs being multicolored, they become mixed colors to show how the emotions evenly effected the memory

Imagine what wrath would look like. Would it be a new emotion, or would it be an anime trope of "Awakening" where anger gets so deep into himself because Riley loses someone important, has a target that is to blame for it, and just GOES AFTER HIM/HER. That would be terrifying, and honestly a new kind of twist villain where the friend who betrayed you never thought they would. Imagine, someone so loyal, so kind, getting so freaking mad that they throw everything out the window just to hurt the one who hurt them.

To everyone who has problem with Riley's parents having Brown hair but she's more of a Blonde, NO she is not adopted. I myself have brown hair and so did my parents, but I didn't start out that way. When I was a baby, my hair was JET Black Then My Mom said it all fell out and Came black in blonde. Between the ages of 1 and 10 It was blonde and I mean Golden. When I turned 11 it started to darken up again, and now it's brown That's what I think is going on with Riley's hair

One thing about the whole decline in "good" Pixar movies isn't the fact that they are "bad" but that people expect something Mind-Blowing. The movies Pixar made back then were something so new and amazing that they're not allowed to make something normal anymore or fans would be upset. While here I am just trying to enjoy some beautiful animation, great voice acting, and generally have a good time. Not picking on little things in the story as if the creative team didn't work hard on it.

Pretty sure they’ll just replace Disgust and Fear’s voice actors, and not remove them from the story entirely… Also, adding emotions wouldn’t make any sense. We see a bunch of the emotions of others in the movie, specifically during the credits, and everyone has those main 5. I don’t think emotions can just come and go

With so many other emotions besides those 'core 5', of course people are going to want to see a sequel. They had deleted scenes which featured several other emotions, and I'm hoping for Schadenfreude to be in the sequel! 😄 There was lots of fan-art depicting characters with the Core 5, and lots of fan-art for the other emotions like Courage and Surprise and even Apathy. I think it's definitely worthy of a sequel! Even shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons got into the fun!

This is one sequel by Pixar I whole-heartedly welcome. So much potential to explore adolescent emotions. I can easily do without Toy Story 5 (a blatant cash-grab, and an insult considering how they left the gang at the end of 4.) Zootopia was great; it's story and characters top-notch, but I don't know where Disney could go with that. Right now I dread where they might take it.

I’d like to see they discover a whole different world that the emotions didn’t even know existed, all having their own house with their own control board, but the original emotions were probably just living in a much fancier house. I’d like to see them expand what is out there in the world of Riley’s mind. I’d like the forgotten or short term memories to be the villain of this movie! Edit: or the characters could be the main emotions but not know all the other emotions out there and while the main emotions are discovering all the new emotions Riley could be changing her emotions

Honestly, having a teenage version of Inside Out would be such a clever way to do this imo. Inside out's target audience was probably children. As a child, you most likely had to move, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with moving to a new place is pretty huge, which fit perfectly with the story. But now, Inside Out1's target audience has grown up into teens, and so it'll hopefully highlight the ups and downs of high school life.

I'm sorry, but the last 6 Pixar movies, including Elemental, have all had the same troupe, and, honestly...almost the same world setup with a few of them. Most Pixar fans have been disappointed with this, which is probably why the company is finally changing things up a bit. Though Pixar is slightly cheating by doing this by returning to stories that have become our favorites and have already been explored. So I'm not exactly impressed with Pixar right now or...even Disney at this point. Nevertheless, I'm still holding out hope that some truly original, highly thought-through screenwriting and less pushing of an agenda. :D

Pixar will always take risks. Their company was built on risks. And real fans will love everything they put out. Elemental is proving that with its increase in revenue. The reason Pixar and Disney movies aren’t having great success is due to the releases straight to Disney+ which makes people not get excited for theater releases. That will change in the coming few years releases.

I'm so excited! I'm stuck in the awkward stages of female puberty, so I feel like this movie will help me since I feel like Riley will be going through puberty. I love this video by the way! I broke my ankle at sleepaway camp, even though we didn't notice it was broken until yesterday and I was limping really bad this week, so I have nothing else to do, especially since I can't go to stunt camp this week for cheer. This video found a way to brighten my day since it's been really hard, especially trying to learn to use crutches. You just gained a new subscriber! Love from Colorado. So I'm really not sure if anyone else has noticed this but in the squence where we are seeing the moms emotions if you look in the back ground at the memories you can see some that aren't colored like the rest. Namely and orange memory mixed with the yellows and quite a few pink memories. The pinks stood out to me cause some are right next to the purple memories and they are clearly not the same type of memories

I personally think that the "love" emotion is more of a searching need, if that makes sense. Riley's parents wouldn't have Love anymore because they already found it in each other, so they aren't looking for that close relationship anymore because they already have it.

The two specific animated Disney films which are Inside Out and Wreck It Ralph I kind of find funny. The reason being is that Inside Out looks like a regular Disney film while Wreck It Ralph looks like a Pixar film.

Also, was looking at some info about puberty…and girls usually start puberty at about 13 years old….so Inside out might probably be set at about 1 year after Inside Out 1. Also The Emotions have no idea what puberty is…so some first parts of the film will most likely be about them learning about it and dealing with it.

I'm always bothered by the groups of people who look at movies like Elemental and Onward, saying "Looks like they ran out of ideas". Because where other people see low effort, lookey here money grab, I see it from a kids pov. Creative and imaginative, which is why I love Pixars animations so much. They aren't afraid to make something new, which is what I've always admired about their studio.

I'm excited about a new movie but adding a new emotion would feel off to me, because in the first movie, we also saw her parents emotions, and there was not more than the 5 emotions we knew. Wouldn't grown up adults have all kind of range of emotions if growing up meant having more emotions ?

I feel the new emotions such as love and shame should b born from riley feeling a certain combination of emotions. Such as love could be a combination of joy, fear, and sadness and shame could be a combination of fear, anger, and disgust. In addition I believe there should be another emotion added and that emotion is stress. I believe stress should be added because going through puberty can be stressful especially for girl. As well as if you are starting high school I believe it would be very stressful since everything is more difficult than middle school and you are in a completely different space then you are use to.

I know it sound pretty bad, but lust is also a typical emotion in teenage years. It doesnt have to be with someone, but also alone. Learning about herself in sexual way. But that would never be on there for kids 😅😂

Something that I always found interesting even as a kid was that while Riley's parents' emotions were purely male/female, Riley's were more or less equal. I wonder if they'll explore gender identity in the second movie, especially with what is going on with the world today.

I hope not. She's a tomboy and nothing's wrong with that. Plus, such things can easily go into work territory. I'd rather them focus on telling their own story without trying to force anything.

@@akgwriting9481 I mean I'd rather not have it as a main focus (though figuring out who you are is a big event during puberty), but these subtleties are what makes animated movies that much more interesting. I like to think there's a reason for every choice made, if this is just a random thing then that's ok. And of course, there's nothing wrong with being a girl with "boyish" interests (I don't really think tomboys are a thing), she's just a girl who goes through life and makes mistakes like the rest of us. But since this next movie will be about puberty, and sequentially - high school, as a high school student in this day and age, I think it would only make sense that these would be the kind of things Riley would be thinking about during this time of her life. Especially since Inside Out has always been a movie that explores ideas in depth and conveys these ideas in meaningful ways. However, I understand I am only speaking from my interests and movie critic pov, but I look forward to this movie nonetheless! :)

Working with the 5 emotions from the movie. Shame is a combo of fear and disgust, with a hint of sadness in there. Love is a combo of joy and disgust, with some of the energy from anger.

Inside Out was one of the best animated movies that I have seen. HOPEFULLY, they make a 2nd one and don't deviate from the huge success of the original by putting in controversial subject matter related to sex or politics.

Going the path of introducing new emotions on every single sequel would be a wrong decision tbh. The original film excelled at explaining that all emotions can be broken down to these 5 main emotions and how they work together to form more complexity. Now that we know that anxiety will be introduced there is a whole bunch of loopholes... Like, where were dad's and mom's anxiety in the first movie? Why didn't it play a role? Why is it not driven by fear?
