I actually really liked Envy, because of how she drives Riley to think about her reputation. Envy can drive us to think about how others think of us. As long as this isn’t taken to an extreme, this can help motivate us to make positive changes. Envy wants Riley to be confident and popular with her peers. So if Riley gets jealous of something, she has the choice to either dwell on the feeling, or do something to go achieve what she admires in others.

Yeah... I'm pretty sure that's what the writers and directors were going for, it made the release scene hit so strongly that I legit cried. There wasn't anything sad about the movie, nor any reason I should've felt triggered by some scenes either, but thats part of what makes a good movie I suppose. It's like the viewer was put in the p.o.v. of "riley's moral/true self." Lead to any scene with moral breaking or character degrading of the non-emotion characters, feel so very wrong.
@JohnsinA-z7z2 ай бұрын
As a person who has had social anxiety before inside out 2 released I knew that people would think anxiety was so cool because of what was going on in Riley’s mind while she had an anxiety attack, and people would try to mimic this, but I’m too shy to spread awareness about this.
@Knockknockitsknuckles12346 ай бұрын
When we got to learn that envy was one of the new emotions, I figured she would probably be a Driving Force, To push Riley into adapting to her new surroundings. The definition of Envy is Discontentment with one’s own Qualities and possessions, and a major part of the movie is that Riley is at risk of losing her sense of self because of anxiety trying to look out for her by dictating the right way to fit in, while envy is giving Anxiety things to look up to and what needs to be done to fit in regardless if it goes against Riley’s own morals and values.

The new emotions resemble the older ones, but more extreme and reckless in a way. Yes, Riley have used sarcasm then, but she never used it against her friends which is what Ennui did. Meanwhile Envy, she's the one influencing anxiety, like suggesting what to do regardless if it goes against Riley's moral compass. Envy here makes sense to me, I know why she was here in this sequel: to keep anxiety on its toes. Which makes sense because, admit it, there are times when we look up to someone so much and envy their feats, that we fear "I might never be as good as them" and it will bring you a lot of anxiety. Embarassment, aside from helping sadness, is the counterpart of the latter. It keeps Riley's social cues grounded, he was not a fully fleshed out character here though. Ennui is much more than the sarcasm. She is disgust's counterpart, but not really the same. But with so much anxiety, the other emotions just didn't have the time to fully exhibit their importance in Riley's mind. Which made sense for me.

It wasn’t necessarily just about “releasing control”. I took it as, a big part of anxiety is the need to be perfect and feeling like you have to do everything right to be “good enough” and lovable. The point in the end being that no one is perfect and that’s okay. We are all multifaceted human beings with flaws and positive qualities and to have a strong sense of self we have to accept that and love ourselves despite our flaws, and with our flaws, the way we love others. Anxiety, in that sense, is in a large part because of perfectionism, insecurity and a fear of the future and yes also a need to control everything.

Inside Out 2 is one of the best Pixar sequal since Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 when it came to connecting the audience, and giving us a good plot to the storyline. I wanted to spoilers until I got to see the movie to allow for a good impression. This is no different than watching Dreamworks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish where it connects with both children and adults when it came to explaining mature subject we all go through in our lifetime. We as humans grow and change everyday and those sophisticated emotions are a great addition as we age. Instead of supressing young minds for the sake of earning a profit for the film, these films educate us in real life situations like having an anxiety attack, fitting in, addressing our moralities, going through the stages of grief, separation, transition, etc. and still educating us in an entertaining matter. I would definitely reccommend seeing the movie and staying for the post credit scene, you'll thank us later. 😉

I have a few thoughts about this movie that I have seen twice now... 1 I love it just as much as the original and I would gladly watch another movie set in the world of inside someones mind again. 2 Ennui is one of my favorites and seems like they are meant to keep things simple but also the one to "play it cool" and one of those is creating the sar-chasm in a more dramatic way than Disgust in the first movie. Embarrassment works in hand with Sadness as it does irl but even without Sadness helping Embarrassment is there almost to make you ashamed of your actions especially if it's in public. Envy works as the "I see something I want now how can I work to achieve it?" like the hair or being respected athlete like Val. 3 while this movie is less impactful than the first one and was more grounded in its message and exploration of the world it is still impactful in showing a young audience that anxiety is a part of you, there isn't a way to get rid of it even if our anger wants to punt it out the window into the dump of forgotten memories. It is something we all experience and even shows how you can calm down from an anxiety attack feeling something around you, hearing, smelling and seeing what is around and happening right now because your mind is racing and this can sometimes help in reminding yourself where you are and what is happening. 4 this is more a detail I noticed but Anxiety describes Fears role as "protecting Riley from the stuff she can see, while I protect her from the stuff she can't see." and while Anxiety is in control during the hockey game she mentions how she didn't see the girl she ran into. Anxiety got such tunnel vision on scoring a goal that she wasn't aware of her surroundings. something that (might) not have happened if Fear and the others were kept around.
@JamesDavy20096 ай бұрын
I and several others believe that Anxiety and Fear would work well as collaborators with the latter learning from the former and getting a better idea of when to step in based on experience.

People are going to be out right negative towards things that are actually good and a success and still find a way to be a dick about it. I'm hopeful Pixar will turn around a profit and turn around in general with making new movies again. People just need to relax and look forward to the next big thing such as Elio and give that movie some new love.

Think about it this way. You know how some people argue that while classic Pixar is really beloved, it's success might have had a part in killing 2D animated theatrical movies? I feel like the movie suffered from a short run time. It focused more on establishing Riley as an actual character that the world building lacks a bit compared to the first one. There's a few areas that could have been expanded on but because the arc and story was a little more complicated, they spent more time making sure the main parts of the movie was satisfactory. Also, while i'm kinda worried pixar pumping out sequels, I'm just glad they stuck the landing on Inside Out 2. The first one is one of my top 2 movies ever, and I'll be content for now knowing the 2nd didn't ruin those memories for me. Another reason the anxiety attack scene hit me so hard is not just the anxiety stuff but how the core five emotions actually get back to HQ. How do they do it? By riding a literal avalanche of thoughts. And as they get back to the main area, those hundreds, if not millions of thoughts, take hold. They race up to HQ until they get stuck. It's only when Joy lets them through to become part of everything that things even out. As someone who has anxiety issues, i can relate so much with both attacks and racing thoughts. It all feels like way too much to handle sometimes. I really need to learn the grounding technique..

Really tackle something big that can happen and see how emotionally taxing it can be. At the end they could show flashes of Riley's kid growing up, Riley finding a partner if she wants one, and ending with her kid being the same age she was when she and her family moved in the first movie. You can get a good story and end it full circle too). I was fearful of this movie because of the new emotions, but I am happy to hear it's been so well received.

I watched it, loved it mostly but my biggest problem was the lack of Core Memories. I was worried they'd use the same concept twice but the surprised me with the new concept true self. Fantastic idea but you can't tell me it wasn't a core memory when Riley made an amazing score and got a coach to come up and tell them to try out for a team. This is just as big as crying on your first day of school. I wish they held hands with the old concept but didn't leave it completely in the dust.

Look, the theme of "you have to learn something from all your experiences" wasn't really developed well because the scenes of Riley struggling are not really shown, except as "oh, this happened" at the climactic scene. All her struggles in the film are due to anxiety, so the idea that joy's sense of self is also detrimental comes out of nowhere. NOWHERE!!!!

For everyone here. If you've in theraphy, you'll realize a ton of concepts in this movie is so much deeper than a majority of people realize. A lot of it is graduate level psychology, and this movie presented it in such a genius way with metaphors. Just look at the first one and how the main characters are literally "bottled emotions " as she grows older by hitting puberty. So much more.

I'm tired of people calling Anxiety an antagonist, she is now consider a friend who just needs a hug from everybody who is consider Anxiety their favorite emotion (including me).....Anxiety is so adorable and cute especially her cute squeal.

SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE!!: Honestly at the end, i was expecting joy to be like "Rileys 14 now! What could go wrong?"

i think Embarrassment is Anxiety’s purpose. Anxiety is there to avoid embarrassment, but then that would taint embarrassment as a “bad” emotion- but then THAT would defeat the purpose of the first movie (that all emotions help us)? i think that is the only major problem aside from Ennui and Envy not having a lot of reason to be there. (Referring to the new Emotions)

Ennui had enough jokes that landed, plus seemed useful at keeping things simple and not trying the same thing for too long. Embarrassment forming a rapport with Sadness, plus a couple good jokes, was enough to warrant the inclusion. Totally agree that Envy didn't do anything. Envy could have been cut so easily. I also think when the OG emotions were banished, Anxiety likely would have kept Fear around, as Fear and Anxiety can work together easily. It could have given Fear a bit of an arc, because Fear would have to choose sides from time to time.

The other three emotions worked for me because they're clunky and awkward. Like puberty. Do you think you'll ever review the first? I'd love to hear your in-depth thoughts

I wouldn't mind a third one where she goes through her adult life and ends up having a child to end full circle.

I would really love a series where we see the other Pixar characters and there versions of the emotions

When it comes to sequels Inside Out makes the most sense out of anything. Its all character development throughout various stages of life. So it can be a good story until Riley becomes elderly.

Inside Out made me cry toward the end, I hardly ever cry at movies. Also, it made me laugh out loud, too. In other words, liked it. :)

People don't really care if its original, sequel or a prequel movies, all they want is a creative storyline, it makes these people go crazy and excited to watch a movie because the story looks interesting. So hopefully the Elio movie has focused on creative story and good animation.

I think the new emotions mirror actual adolescence... your fun, loving, (but volatile) little kid turns into a sulking, brooding teen who still has bursts of enthusiasm and fun, and making some poor choices in the process.

Are there tiny emotions inside joy? If so, how many levels deep does it go? Does tiny Joy-joy have an even tinier joy at her helm? As for the world building. ANXIETY is a type of fear. So she should have been fears, daughter, with disgust as her mother. Emotions mature and develop. The show should have kept that in mind.
