High rpm engines only have torque problems if the gearing is wrong. One shouldn't use the gear ratios of an engine that redlines at 6500 on an engine that redlines at 10000.

I think swapping out a final gear might be the most cost efficient way but I am not sure how available those are. I do wonder if this is a small price to pay for using less custom parts which seems to be one of the driving ethos of their designs.

I'm still waiting for an engine design that runs on stochiometric ratios, uses overpower cooling for the block and has a filter system to deal with NOx emissions. Best modern engines consume at least twice the needed fuel just to avoid high explosion temps, block temps and exhaust that's hard to clean.
@rickcupola6262 Жыл бұрын
Don't diss properly engineered modern engines. OEM engines just don't run richer or just to make more torque like the aftermarket does. OEM's have prioritized the swirl flow for optimal mixture so they can make more power for the same amount of fuel and enable the ability to run on much lower octanes of gasoline, and then cram boost into it and toughen up the engine block. While a 500hp head ported turbo K24 from the aftermarket is cool, it might be running a bit rich with 93 octane, but the Mercedes M139 can still run 91 octane and produce 416hp while being reliable and passing emissions and fuel economy, despite being on high boost.

Opposing piston is not at bottom dead center, unless each piston has it’s own throw on the crank. On most V-8s, opposing pistons share a throw. This means that the opposing piston is always 90 degrees away from it’s counterpart in a 90 degree V-8. This will be true for both flat-plane cranks and cross-plane cranks.
@erisgh0sted9612 жыл бұрын
This engine is awesome, but $70k is beyond reach for most hobbyist. If they're making race car engines that's fine, but don't act like it's the small displacement, high reving v8 the aftermarket is looking for. Because until it's less than $7k-$10k it's basically unobtainium.
@MickH60 Жыл бұрын
That's completely naïve or unrealistic, try building a performance anything with just 7-10 grand... 70K is cheap for that level of engine...

It is a common practice for just about every manufacturer of a v-4, v-6, v-8, v-10, v-12, v-16 gas or diesel engines to manufacture one style head except for most overhead cam engines, that can be turned 180 degrees from each other and be installed on either side of the engine block or any V style engine for that matter it doesn't make any difference heads can be swapped from one side to the other, plus it saves money not having to engineer and manufacture two different heads identical in every way except they are reversed or mirror images of each other.

I have an idea for a video you could make. You could talk about other engines made my other manufacturers that have the same basic recipe as the 2jz which are : aluminium head, iron block, six cylinders, turbo charged and other. I think this would be an interesting topic because as we all know the 2jz is increasingly becoming more expensive and difficult to acquire so some light can be shed on some other great engines. A great example would be the mercedes OM606(which is a diesel but a great engine nonetheless) . Another is a six cylinder engine made by Volvo, I've heard it's called the 2j - swede. What do you think of this?

Love it! I don't know about a zx12 ~ I know I owned a zx14 for a couple of years, and I've often thought of doing exactly this with two zx14s. ~ 2.8 litres, about 400 hp, and torque is a little bit scarce below perhaps 3,ooo but once you get to that, it goes all the way to 12. It's got an awful lot more bottom end & midrange than a zx10r. Could you drive a small / mid-size car perfectly fine with a zx14? Hell yeah! So how would it go with 2 of them? [evil laugh] Let's find out! Imagine something like an Opel Cadet, or a Datson 1200, or a Mazda 808, but with a 400hp V8 in it, which weighed more or less exactly what the original motor weighed.
