I could give you probably a thousand people who didn't survive the 50. The likely odds are, he was hit with a 12.7m round made by the Chinese and they made it wrong, less powder than should have been in it. I'd have to imagine that 50 cal was a SWAT guy's personal weapon and not police issue. Just don't see it as being a common choice for police tactics. EDIT: After doing some further reading, that is exactly what Code 100 means for Dallas. It is issued from high command and authorizes the use of any and all weapons not police issued nor qualified to use to be used to end the threat. This was the code the SWAT officer was waiting for so he could use his personal use 50 cal.

That's a silly myth, Rusty. It's not going to blow somebody in two pieces like an RPG would or like a 30mm round coming from an Apache attack helicopter would. While the .50 cal is very fast with a lot of velocity, it has a pointed tip designed for penetration, not expansion or explosion. It's purpose is to punch through armored-vehicles, and in WWII it was used to shoot down planes; it's not made to blow things into multiple pieces, including people.

to point this out some are confused on what code 100 mean but its to authorize the use of "personal weapons" the .50 cal in question was not a police issued weapon(it was either the snipers or another officers personal weapon). So it must be authorized by the chief of police to be used. This code was put in state for when use of emergencies such as one like this when police have personal/borrowed weapons/ammo on hand their is more to it but its the most i could find from digging if i am wrong please correct me.

A code 100 is given from the high command allowing officers to masturbate on duty. They may abruptly masturbate to relieve tension and then immediately return to duty. This is common in most southern cities throughout the US. If you ever decide to visit, it is considered common courtesy to visit a police station and Code 100 in the lobby as long as you yell...Code 100 while doing it.

Same thing happened in Austin, some asshole was shooting at APD Headquarters. A police officer I knew, Adam Johnson, was holding two horses in this left hand and fired one shot from his service pistol from 104 yards and dropped the guy. He had on Body Armor but he had is right arm up shooting an AK and Adam's bullet hit him in the armpit and went right through his heart, he was dead when he hit the ground.

I was at the stop light North bound on Lamar, directly in front of DPD. The van was in the right lane, directly in front of the door. I thought that’s super weird- but thought it was some police under cover. I drove off…l and got through down town to East Dallas. Next morning saw the news. I was seconds from being in the middle of that.

SWAT. SWAT is basically the Police's version of the military's Spec Ops, and other elite units, so they have access to high-end equipment that normal everyday officers do not. They only call in SWAT for very specific high-risk situations, SWAT is specialized for those exact situations. You're not going to just run into SWAT Officers going on a patrol like other officers, SWAT will only show up if the police call them in because a situation is *that* dangerous.

@@gamester512 Small towns train their standard officers in SWAT protocol and gear if they don't have enough manpower to do both. They'll go to HQ and gear up then continue on. However, big cities have a QRF SWAT available at all times. As well, this wasn't the SWAT issued weapons. Code 100 means they allow use of personal fire arms. Someone brought their own 50 cal.
