Our citizens must value country and community over self.

Well I disagree. I've been a nurse for almost 30 years & I feel like people must take care of themselves first but be open to assisting others in their family, workplace, community, etc, as they feel they can. There's always someone out there who will be spreading fear & misinformation for various nefarious reasons but you can trust your physician & their staff to listen to your concerns & give you sound advice. We are blessed in this country to have some of very best healthcare available anywhere but it is essential for our people to be more proactive & practice prevention if we're ever to control costs & waste to make medical care sustainable & affordable for everyone. So little was really asked of our communities during the pandemic when you think about it. Cover your cough, keep your distance, avoid gatherings, get a shot, & be patient. Was it truly so much to ask? It saved many. many lives as immunizations have done since George Washington required his troops to be inoculated against smallpox in the 1770s.

A very moving real world observation.

I remember getting Covid 19 in April of 2020. I didnt have to be hospitalized thank god but it took about 2 months to get my sense of smell back and had a lingering cough for months afterwards. I lost 2 friends to Covid 19 and saw the devastation it caused their families.
