David, this really is funny and well said. On the serious side, I do know folks who are afraid they will be stuck with a spouse or family member who they don't like in this life. I don't know if we become more likeable in the next life. There really is so much that we don't know about the next life. We are told we will be happy and we just have to believe that this is true and that God will sort it all out.

@Happy Flowers LDS is a cult.
@jlewis8145
@jlewis8145 2 жыл бұрын
@Happy Flowers In a Christian context, the definition of a cult is, specifically, “a religious group that denies one or more of the fundamentals of biblical truth.” A cult is a group that teaches doctrines that, if believed, will cause a person to remain unsaved. A cult claims to be part of a religion, yet it denies essential truth(s) of that religion. Therefore, a Christian cult will deny one or more of the fundamental truths of Christianity while still claiming to be Christian. The two most common teachings of Christian cults are that Jesus was not God and that salvation is not by faith alone. A denial of the deity of Christ results in the view that Jesus’ death was insufficient to pay for our sins. A denial of salvation by faith alone results in the teaching that salvation is achieved by our own works. The two most well-known examples of cults today are the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons. Both groups claim to be Christian, yet both deny the deity of Christ and salvation by faith alone. Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons believe many things that are in agreement with or similar to what the Bible teaches. However, the fact that they deny the deity of Christ and preach a salvation by works qualifies them as cults.

Jesus also commanded that Solomon build an incredibly opulent temple in which to worship God. It is a test of faith of His people. We don't just build these cause we want to, but because God commanded us to do so. It is the reason the book of Revelation says that in the last days the saints would work day and night in the temple. It is a fulfillment of that prophecy. Jesus chose to live "poor," because he only focused on the reason He came to Earth; but that has nothing to do with why He commands us to build temples.

@@michaeldenova4562 Joseph Smith and every LDS prophet since him have preached a gospel of “do,” negating the gospel of “done” that Jesus preached and was. The LDS church is all about what it and its members must still do and be if they want to live with God (and be a god) one day. The true church is all about proclaiming what Christ has DONE to make us right with God now for all eternity. It’s a certainty. Jesus Christ canceled the record of debt that was held against us. All you need to do is accept Christ by faith. It isn't because of who you are and what you must and can do for God. It is because of who He is and what He did for you in sending Jesus to be the sacrificial offering for your sins. To be your substitute on the cross and to satisfy the demands of God's law that stands against you. Christ has done the one work that was necessary to reconcile you to God. Christ has done the one act of righteousness that could bring justification and life to all men. All Christ is asking with open arms is for you to lay down your religiosity and works at the foot of the cross and allow Christ to take it. Salvation is quite simple. Luke 18 And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6-10) What is the true Gospel? The son of God sacrificed Himself to atone for all the sins of man. He fulfilled the law and through faith in Him we can be justified before God. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."(Ephesians 2:8-9) We are completely saved and justified by faith in Christ and our faith and love and appreciation to Christ for this eternal salvation causes us to do good works- those are the evidence of our salvation not the basis of it. We are saved as a result of God's mercy and grace. "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."(Hebrews 7:25) "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."(Romans 3:21-28)

Jesus divides people and families. Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36) The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families: Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53) Those same truth rejecters become enemies to the truth lovers as they resist and persecute the follower of Jesus. To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family.

I read this type of comment often on stories about Temples of the Church. I think that what is needed here is more understanding of the incredible humanitarian efforts that are the results of the free donations from the members of the church, in both time and money. Then I think, rather than being cynical about such money and attention going to structures like this, the response should be, “this must be a special church to build such structures that create a membership that is so freely giving of their time, talents and interests to helping others, non-member and member alike, all over the world.”

Evangelizing is illegal in Israel by anyone. The LDS church used to do proxy baptisms for victims of the Holocaust till they were told to stop (though they had to be told twice). Mormon missionaries go door to door to everyone else to tell them their religion is wrong (though they pretty much sugarcoat it these days). The fact that individual Mormons might be nice people doesn't change the fact that their dogma is without merit.

@zachgarver7922 Жыл бұрын
I have a better answer. I don't know if temple sealed mormons have a higher divorce rate than other faiths or the general population. I do know that the stresses in a typical LDS marriage are quite often unique. One has to understand the LDS culture, but in short, at 18 and 19 year old young people are strongly encouraged, today not unfair to say "obligated" to go on a two year mission, at least for young men, where they are under extraordinary supervision and control. You then immediately get married, certainly within a year, and promptly start making babies. So think about it. Eternity is a space time concept that humans can't fully even comprehend, but the culture has you marrying someone...anyone so long as they are a returned missionary and otherwise fit the temple bill but typically were acquainted with for only a relatively short time, for eternity. When you come to understand how cultishly controlling this religion is, it actually makes perfect sense. Get the young people committed before they go off and start exploring their youth and sexuality, and keep them committed.

Groups of people, large or small, can (and do) believe lots of things but that does not necessarily make their position correct. If everyone in the world believed the world was flat it would still be round. People can do whatever they want. I don't pay attention to who is leaving or staying. (I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you got your "people are leaving" statement from either (again) "everybody" or from a source that is less than unbiased. I haven't been to the temple in years. My spiritual beliefs are something of a soup, filled with material from multiple sources. But when I see people call the church a cult, likely with little to no understanding of what the word even means or the fact that by popular definition it could be applied to just about any religion or organization, I can't help but ask where they got their information. And, 99% of the time I get responses similar to yours. "Everybody knows," "Because they do this or that ceremony," "It's been said for years," or other things. You misunderstand that scripture. It was a warning to the Saducees who did not believe in the resurrection. Christ's statement is simply that no new marriages will be made in the resurrection, so He warned them that no new marriages would be made, He never mentions anything regarding those who were already married. It is a warning to them regarding the resurrection, which they didn't believe in, but a further warning that they need to marry now, otherwise they would not have the chance after this life, in the resurrection.

No tours of the Endowment room where church members make vows of obedience to the 12 Apostles and the three First Presidency. Promises to give “all” to the church. Spiritually and economically. No views of the Anointing rooms where in your secret sacred Mormon underwear only you are touched with oil by male only high priests and non ordained women to receive blessings of numerous children, among other things.
@astrangerhere
@astrangerhere 2 жыл бұрын
The in-person tour does include views of the endowment rooms (at least it has in all the open houses I've been to in Utah, so I'm sure it will here.) The word "economically" is not used in the ceremony. Members do covenant to give "all" to build up the kingdom of God, establish Zion, and support the church of which they are a part. All of this has biblical references. Jesus referenced building up his church, he constantly talked about the "kingdom of God" and the idea of Zion as "New Jerusalem" is found heavily in the book of Revelation. Hence, the covenant is to do as he commanded (but it does not specify precisely how the individual is to do this in their own life, and zero reference is made to giving any money. It's between the individual and God.) If we eliminate your intentional use of shock-words, it can be explained that it's actually NO "secret" that Mormons are given a special garment to wear as underclothing throughout their life. Might it interest you to know that our English word "atonement" is derived from the ancient Hebrew word "kaphar," which means "to cover?" Thinking about that in relation to the atonement of Jesus Christ shouldn't take one very long to get the idea the the garment is yet another symbol of him. There is no mention in the ceremony of the First Presidency or Twelve Apostles or obedience to them. A covenant of obedience to GOD is made, but that covenant was actually already made at baptism. And another topic Jesus had a lot to say about. No one exemplified this covenant more than he did. How beautiful it is to be anointed before God. References to this can be found all throughout the Bible. Your phraseology is obviously intended to imply that there is something dubious going on, but nothing could be further from the truth. Over 20 years I performed these ordinances in 20+ temples all over the US and everything was ALWAYS done in good taste, with respect and reverence for the individual, the one for whom the work was being done, and the person's body. There is so, so much that can be learned from the temple experience but without a desire for such some people will continue to not understand it, and instead of trying to learn, coming back again, asking questions (you can talk to the President of the temple if you are concerned about something -- I did so on several occasions,) they will intentionally misrepresent or exaggerate things to give the impression it is something it is not.

@@astrangerhere in 1977 when I was anointed in the Oakland California USA temple, an elderly high priest touched my groin going so far to cup my testicles. I was a naive 19 year old Mormon convert and deeply closeted gay teen. At that time the washing and anointing was done completely nude except for the “shield” (poncho) covering. I was traumatized and confused. I nearly left Mormonism after “ taking out my endowment” since it was so foreign to my previous 4 years of Mormon ward and stake experiences. Also at that time the vow and covenant was to give “all” to the Kingdom of God on earth as defined as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was commonly understood and taught over the pulpit to be a financial matter. As in right now we pay tithes and offerings, (minimal 10% of income) but if asked by the prophets and apostles the law of consecration (giving all income to the church, as they tried in 1830s Ohio and Missouri). You may not be aware of all of the temple ceremonies alterations done in the 1990s and previously. It’s worth researching. At the time I vowed and covenanted in the Oakland temple in 1977, there were punishments attached to the vows and punishments (that my throat would be sliced, that my bowels would be cut open if I did not live up to the promises, or if I shared the secrets of the temple to others, even other members). So again, quite traumatic for a naive teen. You could research the number of young women and men who had horrible negative experiences with the Mormon temple endowment and sealing ceremonies, especially before, but not exclusively, the 1990s. It’s all been altered to be more acceptable to most people. Just as the CBS fluff piece was made acceptable to most people by the PR department of the LdS church corporation (Bonneville Communications).

@@jeffs4483 I know that scripture (Revelation 22:18). The New Testament wasn't even compiled when John wrote Revelations. In fact, it is believed other books in the New Testament may have been written after John's Revelation. "This book" that John says not to "add unto these things" probably refers to his book of Revelation. And now the bigger picture: God spoke to mankind in the Old Testament; God spoke to mankind in the New Testament; and Latter-day Saints say that God is speaking to man again in these the last days. Man cannot add or subtract to what God says, but God is able to speak to mankind as often as he wants. The canon of scripture and revelation has reopened. The Bible tells us that in the last days Elijah must return (Malachi 4:5,6) and also, people will be inspired by the Holy Ghost to prophecy, dream dreams, and have visions (Joel 2:28, 29). The "restitution of all things" (Acts 3:20,21), the "dispensation of the fulness of times" (Ephesians 1:10) and the "marvellous work and a wonder" (Isaiah 29:14) have all begun. Thanks for mentioning this.

Christ had already said that the church would never need to be restored. Mt. 16 Where does the 'original gospel' say that we should worship an 'exalted man' with a body of flesh and bone, that came from another planet, that had to work his way to godhood, lives near a star named Kolob, had sex with his own spirit daughter Mary to conceive 'Jesus,' is out sleeping with other women, damns people who deny the eternal principle of polygamy D&C 132 and forces women to be sex objects as part of some LDS man's harem for all eternity? The true and living God of the Bible is love. ❤️ He is the first, uncaused cause of everything you see. He does not need sex, sleep, shelter, clothing, food, air, water or anything else a mere created being might need. He spoke the planets and stars including Kolob into existence. He is transcendent and lives outside of the universe. He is eternal- has always been God and never had to work his way to godhood. Where does the 'original gospel' say that Christ is a created being the brother of Lucifer? Where does the 'original gospel' say that one must join the LDS church, believe the Book of Mormon is true, believe that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, tithe to the LDS church, go through a worthiness interview, get a temple recommend, go through a masonic Endowment Ceremony, put on Lucifer's power and priesthoods, learn secret passwords, signs, grips, tokens and handshakes, wear temple garments, etc. to maybe get into heaven? Latter day Saints have no chance of ever getting into heaven. You need to read your Bible. Eternity is a long time to be wrong.

@@michaeldenova4562 My point is that LDS doctrine changes the entire message of the Christian gospel; it isn't just a few minor doctrinal disagreements. The very idea that men can become gods and rule over their own planets is totally foreign to the Bible, which teaches that there is one God and no other who is to be served and worshipped by all mankind. Then there is the Book of Mormon fabrication of vast civilizations in the Americas descended from supposed Israelites, when DNA analysis proves there is no connection between the native inhabitants of the Americas and Semitic peoples. There is also no archeological evidence that these fantasy civilizations ever existed. That's just two examples of the twisted ideas that sprang from the fertile imagination of Joseph Smith.

No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)-and which I should join. 19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
