Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel is best known for her fashion house. After opening her first shop in 1910, Chanel would own one of the biggest fashion brands in the world and be credited for changing the way women shopped. Her personal life was one of massive contradictions, though, and now each detail of her journey is on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Holly Williams takes us inside the sold-out retrospective.
"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

Well that was a very well rounded piece in 7 minutes - I learned a lot.

6:50 Im glad he questioned Coco Chanel potentially being an antisemitic. The lady dodged the question saying, “it’s complicated” when it really isn’t.

How can a museum show be sold out??? Anyhow Coco was the chicest tomboy ever! I love how what was once considered “manish” is now the classiest style of dress for women today. My favorite aspect of her life is how she loved the nuns so much at the orphanage that the black and white style is a nod to them. ❤

I just looked on their website. It's really sold out. It's a temporary exhibition so I guess all the slots are booked up.

"Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen." 🙏🙏🙏🙏 Please pray these words now, pray them as you read them if you cannot look and remember them 🙏 please consider beginnning daily prayer, it is a good habit that will help you if you actually do it and continue to do it 🙏

The problem w/ the interlocking CC logo is that most luxury designers did the same thing w/ their logos. LV Louis Vuitton, GG Guccio Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, BB Balenciaga, SL Saint Laurent…etc 😳

But Coco started it first, she knew marketing before the world learned about brand marketing

@@WorldCitizenWLouis Vuitton’s son designed the floral pattern with the interlocking LV logo dating back to 1896. Not sure if that was the *FIRST* designer, but, the CC logo wasn’t designed until almost 30 years later in 1925.

All of those brands were owned by real people... they are monograms.

Even though CC grew up orphaned in an era in which women couldn't vote, had limited work opportunities and were largely dependent on men for their survival, she managed to build a successful business. She knew not only how to survive, but how to thrive. We cannot really judge her by the same standards as people who never had to face such challenges. Had she been raised in a stable, middle-class home, we probably would never have heard of her. She would have gotten married, raised children, and that would have been it.

Chanel is now soooo boring. Under Virginie’s artistic direction, it has become H&M and Zara inspired.

Indeed. Zara is actually more inspiring then the newest Chanel collection. The label started going downhill fast 5 years ago…
