Great interview . Actually it was through this interview that I first learned about Allen Hinds and he is now definitely one of my favorite guitar players. Allens style is very personal and difficult to try to go into, but he plays a beautiful Steps Ahead ballad on one You Tube clip, and that one I am gonna learn. Thanks a lot for a great interview.

That’s so cool that Allen said that Jeff Buckley was a great fusion guitar player. Jeff's voice was so outstanding the he doesn't get much love for his guitar work. Coming from Allen, that's high praise.

Man I love how Allen plays. Im a new Fan!!!! I never have been a fan of speed deamon players. Id rather hear one or two sweet notes that a barage of notes like someone threw a bag of marbles on a guitar. Nice man, nice

Chris what type of auto wah or talk box are you using on the play out track? I discovered you listening to the Chuck Loeb Pandora station a few years ago. You have a great sound mixing jazz w some modern sounds. Thanks.

Nice interview parts. Yes, I have to agree with SurveyofFilmMusic below about the guitar tone. It wasn't captured properly. The drums are also too loud. Amazing and beautiful playing from Allen but why such a small room? Made me feel claustrophobic even though I'm not! :-) Sorry to complain, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but comments are enabled and these are my comments.

wow that tone was not nearly as bad as you guys made it out to be... If I was to guess amp was probably much quieter then usual. Didn't push the tubes as hard

+Taylor Kropp agreed. the tone isn't necessarily bad, it's just like you said: the amp is clearly very quiet so that power amp section was probably half asleep thus the weak (but not terrible) tone. i'm sure once cranked it sounds like a beast

Like mid-70s era Soft Machine without the mindless guitar riffs. Nothing wrong at all with fusion, AS LONG AS, there is musical integrity, and not just endless riffing that really has no cohesive vision or directionality.

+SurveyofFilmMusic I don't think his tone sucks… Just sounds a bit flat. I mean, look at the room they're in, if he's loud enough to hear himself there could be phasing issues in the drum mics which could strip some (or a whole lot) of the guitar tone's character, so he might not be pushing the output section of his amp much at all. Also, I can't tell from this video but it looks like they might have just thrown something like a SM57 right up on the speaker and that pretty much always sounds flat and dry to me if not used in combination with something else. He's used the same setup in other videos and it sounds great so I'll blame the room/possible lack of better way to record this band. KILLER player tho, hahaha.
