As a Canadian who sees this weather often, the amount of mismanagement by local government is insane. A snow fall like that has warning signs that should have clicked in an action plan. Citizens shouldn't suffer because people who were supposed to prepare, didn't.

Easy to say when you may be used to receiving this kind of weather. I’m from NY and we had snow regularly. I remember a storm like this happening in the 90s and it disabled a city prepared to deal with this for nearly a week. I imagine they don’t know how to deal with it because this is an extremely rare occurrence to which I’m sure they don’t have the proper equipment for. They’d probably need to borrow equipment from places up north to even start and they still have to find a way to get it in. I pray something happens for them soon, but I’m definitely not surprised at the handling.

As a Southern California resident, we’re not prepared for this. This is super rare (history books rare). We’re not even prepared for our “earthquakes” because they’re usually small. There were warnings for at least a week, this wasn't a storm that came out of no where like a tornado. I visit the mountains quite a bit and I'm always prepared that's just for me visiting! If you actually live up there and see the weather reports for close to a week why not over prepare yourself for you and your family. Still no excuse for the city to help clear the snow in general but for each individual preparation is key, you never know how bad things will get.

@@Nyx_Nyx Right, that's the thing. Everyone expects the government to come save them if something happens. They don't have any personal accountability anymore. People need to wake up and realize they can't count on someone intervening when things like this happen. It doesn't cost much to buy a couple of weeks worth of food and water for emergencies, especially over time. People just don't prioritize their own safety, and it's sad. Even if this type of thing NEVER happened there, anything can happen. Fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, even just personal job loss. People buy homeowner's insurance, medical insurance, car insurance, even pet insurance, but not insurance in the form of food, water, and supplies for emergencies. It's mind boggling.

Climate change encompasses global warming; it has existed for as long as human activity degenerated into natural resource exploitation and industrialization. Climate change has existed for centuries, especially from the 19th and 20th century. The fact that you think "global warming" is a recent topic already predates your absolute stupidity, because it is not a new topic. The discourse of negative environmental change from human activity has existed for centuries. Also, even if it was recently discovered, you DO realize certain issues (such as disease, meteors, natural disaster, etc) usually aren't found out until a much later date? Expecting anyone to figure out an issue the EXACT moment a problem starts is as unrealistic as it is mind-bogglingly ignorant. Thousands- if not, millions- of scientists of all fields from all over the globe from ALL political areas for YEARS have proven perpetually that climate change is real. Mother Nature is a lady you don't F-with. I've lived in Canada all my life and have learned that you can guarantee that you will be snowed in for a period of time. We always have our freezers full and lots of water on hand. The other thing we do is when we buy a house the first thing that we do is install a wood stove. You will always have heat to boil water and cook your meals. As for getting around, we have 2 snowmobiles and a 4x4 truck. If these people were warned about what was coming, then it's up to them to get supplies to stay alive. Stop blaming everybody else, sorry.
@2112Nightshift Жыл бұрын
How anyone, in this day and age, doesn't have more than a couple of weeks of supplies in the house is beyond me. You should have a bare minimum of six weeks worth of food and water in the house. Minimum.

It reminds me of the time when my younger sister was born November 1975 I was 6yrs old; we only had heat from the gas stove; we ate beans from a can; the next morning the cars were buried under snow; we walked up the snow onto the roof and jumped in the snow; it was in South Dakota. Not California. My friend told me it snowed in Tucson AZ they never get snow; we need the water 💦 fill up lake Powel and Mead in NV.

We live in the central sierras. I have a heart condition, and I'm never without a months supply of my meds. We're not "preppers", but keep a small pantry stocked with food, water, and medicine in case of fire, inclimate weather, or any other situation that might prevent us from traveling into town . We invested in a small generator that keeps our fridge going, and the use of small appliances. ITS WHAT RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE DO TO REMAIN SELF SUFFICIANT IN TIME OF CRISIS. A week ?! LMFAO !!! Anyone that irresponsible doesn't deserve the airtime they're given to cry about it.

The southern CA mountains havent received this much snow in anyones recent memory, they literally arent equipped to deal with it, plus they have a lot more than 2 feet. Im in Northern CA, we've had 6 feet in just the last week which isnt even including the storms from a couple weeks ago, or the fact that I m not in the highest mountains. I ve been clearing the snow every day for weeks and theres just nowhere left to put it.
@deekang6244 Жыл бұрын
@@ST19859 Even more reason to be prepared. It wasn’t her plea for help. It was her demanding tone, her outrage that this happened to HER. That NO ONE understands. But we do understand. Yes, others get it. It’s not that she shouldn’t get help. It’s that she won’t admit that she knew but didn’t prepare. There was no reason to not have a month’s worth of baby formula on hand. If I heard the storm of the century was heading my way, I’d borrow money to lay in supplies.
@ST19859 Жыл бұрын
@@deekang6244 I highly doubt anyone making comments like yours has ever dealt with this volume of snowfall before. My community is very well prepared as is my household because we do expect weather like this from time to time but this has vastly exceeded what even we were prepared for. Some of these places have walls of snow 10 feet deep or more, do you have any idea what it takes to move that ?? To get vehicles moving through that ?? Not trying to excuse some of the people being completely unprepared but when someone says "I ve had 2 feet of snow at my place before, its not that bad" it tells me they really dont get it.

You'd think that with some of these snow storms the U.S has had this year in unfamiliar places that people would learn to be prepared. Leaving the hospital with a newborn baby in that kind of weather is absolutely ridiculous they should have known to stay inside until its safe to return home. I hope they get help but its just mind-blowing to me that people living in these rural areas want/need help when they put themselves in these environments and now expect other people to risk their lives so they can continue living comfortably.
