Drone Used to Locate Man Sleeping in Target Store

Arizona’s Glendale Police Department shared video showing the scene high above the big box store. The department received a call from Target employees saying someone unknown “was hiding in the back storage room.” Cops responded by sending their drone in before the officers. Authorities say the man “was sleeping, or pretending to be asleep” on top of a merchandise storage rack. Amongst the red carts and Target backstock, the unnamed man was taken into custody.

I own two 1st responder drones along with the DJI Inspire many police departments use for outside. The Mavic2 Enterprise and now the 3E. Without flying at least once in a building, you would be very hesitant, along with hitting walls, doorways, etc. The sensors allow a person to fly accident free inside unknown buildings. I've replayed the video and could not make out whatever drone it is. I have to say it's a DJI enterprise.

I used to work overnights at target as a stocker. It’s a pretty high demand job. When you scan an item you have a minute to find the item’s location and sometimes they’re impossible to find. When you’re doing that job on very little sleep because you’re a full time single dad in your personal life, it can be very tiring. I switched to days because I couldn’t do nights anymore.

It would be nice to have some type of place where he can go to sleep without hiding or worrying about the elements. I know they have shelters but those get full pretty quickly and I’m not sure how good they take care of them.

As a European I find it so bizarre to see the police pulling a gun on such a case. In Europe a police man would go in, yell at the person to come down and into custody. No chance of anyone dying that day. Still shaking my head.

I remember about a year or so ago I went to a local liquor store here and when I came out there was a drone flying around in the parking lot messing around people going in and coming out. It followed me out to our car, a short distance away, but kept hovering around eye level and I just stared at it for a minute. It kept zooming in and out towards me real fast as if whomever was operating it was trying to intimidate me. I stepped out closer to the road and looked all over trying to find the operator but I never saw anyone. I don't know if it was just some random person messing around but it seemed like a high dollar drone, it was scary fast the way it could zip through the air and the way it was maneuvering around. I've often wondered if it was a police drone checking things out or maybe they got a new drone and was testing it out or the operator was showing what he could do. I never found out but it did make me a bit angry the way it was concentrating on me and flying in close and backing away real fast as if I was supposed to be scared. If it had kept it up much longer I'd have probably thrown something at it. One of the weirdest experiences I've ever had.

They had guns drawn on someone who's obviously homeless and posed no immediate threat. Damn! I cannot stand the police at times!

I’ve heard of people doing stuff like this with the intention of stealing stuff from the store after hours and walking out with minimal staff there to stop them. I wonder if that explains the police response to what is basically trespassing

It was after store hours so it was probably evening/night trespassing at night in many countries is seen as more severe than trespassing during the day.
