it really bugs me that they call them black and white twins. they're both mixed just different shades that's all.
@HighTen_Melanie9 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Steph. There is only one race, the human race. We are all brothers and sisters however we look. It's what's inside that counts.
@HighTen_Melanie9 жыл бұрын
+burgel18 you clearly haven't understood the entire point of the comment. It is how we treat others not how we look that is important. Humanity is not simply defined by the colour of our skin but by our character.
@450jms9 жыл бұрын
+burgel18 Race is much more of a social construct then a biologically based taxonomic group. We are after all in the same species and can still mate with each other. So, the genetic variance between any "race" would have to be very small. Also, there are black people all over the world. The variability between a black person with roots in South Africa and a black person that has roots in Australia is nearly or just as varying as either would be with a European descendant. Both black people may have a darker skin pigment that is the result of their similarly hot environments, but this result of a small number of genes and there is a lot of other less outwardly noticeable genetic variability that isn't taken into account for when you think of race. So, all in all it hard to support the current use of the term when you are speaking biologically. Also, just wondering why do you hate vegetarians?
@450jms9 жыл бұрын
+burgel18 Dog breeds are the result of years of genetic meddling by humans via selective inbreeding to get specific sets of traits. As a result they are much more genetically diverse in comparison to humans and specific breeds are much more closely related than any individual human races are. So, it isn't a really fair comparison. Also, I'll reiterate there is as much genetic variation within our current race structure as there is within the races themselves. So, it really isn't a scientific categorization as much as it is a social construct based on a very small amount of genes that control skin pigment and a few other outwardly expressed genes. As far as the vegetarian thing, you initially brought it up so you shouldn't be surprised when someone wants an explanation for you're irrational hatred.
@450jms9 жыл бұрын
+burgel18 Of course I do, "in a genetic study of 85 breeds, Parker et al. (2004) showed that humans and dogs have similar levels of overall nucleotide diversity, 8 × 10-4, which represent the overall number of nucleotide substitutions per base/pair. However, the variation between dog breeds is much greater than the variation between human populations (27.5% versus 5.4%). Conversely, the degree of genetic homogeneity is much greater within individual dog breeds than within distinct human populations (94.6% versus 72.5%)". This is from a study called "The Canine Genome" by Elaine Ostrander. Also, you should take a look at "Genetic Similarities Within and Between Human Populations" by D.J. Witherspoon. I'm too lazy to actually go through it right now, but it talks about how the variation between races and how biologically negligible they really are.
