It seems like they were going 50mph which is already quite slow when the speed limit is 70 on Texan roads. It was cold but likely that all it took to do this was one crash and the cars/trucks didn’t have enough time to slow down. It was an unfortunate accident where one mistake costs multiple deaths. Edit: I’m well aware that going 70 those conditions is insane. I’m just saying how 50mph is quite slow already but on ice trying to break a dozen hundreds of meters away from the break lights is pointless especially if you’re driving a truck that weighs many tons.

Sure enough a policeman came around and nailed my car doing about $6000 in damage. I got out of the car and walked back to the policeman, and asked him why he did not obey the warning light. He said it wasn't flashing. I asked him to walk back to the sign with me to verify and he did. It was still flashing. That’s why many countries have regulations on winter tires. It won’t make you grip like dry roads but you won’t lose as much grip as all season or summer tires. $500-1000 for a extra set of winter wheels is a small price to pay to reduce chance of accident.

@@mimib8032 well if winter tires would only benefit you a couple days a year then you aren’t someone that should buy them. I live only minutes away from where this occurred. It was incredibly devastating to us Texans knowing the amount of deaths were caused that could've been prevented by simple precautions. Drive slow in these weather conditions, if you fear it then don't do it, BE SAFE
@cjb27493 жыл бұрын
The problem is that most people aren't smart enough to fear it. Arrogance is a lot more prevalent than common sense and logic these days. 90% of people believe that they're smarter and more capable than anybody else, and that stuff like this definitely won't happen to them 🙄

I'd bet this happened because you're texans. You need to know that you shouldn't drive so fast in snow. If you guys knew what you were doing this wouldn't have happened. The trucks might've still crashed because they're hard to stop but it wouldn't be a massive pileup if you took it w=slow

That driver was not dumb, since you probably have never been in Texas, Texas does not maintain roads for winter as much as northern states, hence there is ice everywhere, a semi moving at regular driving speed will not stop regardless of its speed because of the inertia behind it. Ice just makes it worse, dont blame truck drivers for the weather and road maintenance that the state is in charge of. Blame the governor who privatized the energy sector and caused mass power outages
