Did this exact repair on a MacCat saw I got from a yard sale that is almost identical. I wish this video had been available then as it would have made the job much easier. I had the additional problem of the cork gasket for the oiler cap rotting and spilling debris into the bar oil which was the pulled into the oiler by a broken line that separated from the filter. Took quite a bit more disassembly to clean out all the oil journals. Wonderful saw tho, I’ve used it to clean up after 2 hurricanes and a tornado and it cuts like a beast despite being 20+ yrs old.

Not bad! You got most of it right. I work on chainsaws almost every day, And yes! I do have a pile of these and mini mac saws.First off, if you don't have 90 PSI for your minimum numbers for your compression check you won't get a 2-stroke to idle when warmed up! Second thing, It's not the ethanol that destroys the fuel lines and diaphragm, But the Benzene in pump fuel does a job on rubber Ethanol will crode aluminum and also is the culprit for all the water in your fuel system! It has an extra molecule of water that makes alcohol and draws moisture to it. I would disagree that the ring was worn due to lack of oil! If there is ever a lack of oil It's because there was none mixed in with gas and always bakes the piston! Men have a tendency to put just a little more than the recommended amount because he is worried about seizing the piston! Unaware that is usually the reason the piston is all scraped up at exaust port. And a majority of the over heating problems when you got a puddle of it in the exaust pipe! 50/1 2.6 once in a gallon of premium fuel or better! I use VP small engine fuel already pre mixed. Regular gasoline is garbage these days! And the hotter it gets the worse it pre detonates and will destroy a 2-stroke engine. Here is what I see most often that stops a chainsaw from running. You have to keep the chain sharp on a chainsaw! Otherwise it makes a powder enstead of chips or if you're really good at sharpening you make shavings! It sucks it into the holes in the flywheel side and mixed with the thick bar oil sold to you, It makes a goohy mess and slings it across the face of the coil and that's the end of your sparky,Sparky!😉

Did you ever do a Mc Colloch 35cc Where the tank has the impossible access to and from grommet on top? One short line goes to the purge bulb and the other comes up through a grommetted hole to the carb. It sure would be an interesting video to see the tank come apart that far and not get scrapped. Problems are the short hose being disconnected in there and having no access, and the other is no room or visual, and no diagram.

So I did end up doing this myself, it wasn't as bad as I thought. However, I did not split the case to get the fuel lines into the tank. Instead I fed line up a stiff thin metal rod (in my case it was a thin braising rod, but a coat hanger would do) and it fed the line straight into the tank. On the other end of the rod I made a small hook to pull the line up from the fuel tank to put the gas filter on. All the rest was pretty straightforward. Thanks for the great video.

Have a Homelite string line trimmer that my kid brought home along with two other mowers found at the curb. The mowers seem to work okay, although one needs a new throttle cable.. The string trimmer had fuel in... And I smelled it. Straight gassed.. showed my kid what happens to the piston when straight gassed, and he saw the scoring. Well, now I seem to have some extra parts... Even a dead one has some use.

Great instructions but I have one correction. The short port on the primer goes to the tank and the longer one goes to the left side of the carb. I did it the way you mention and the primer does not fill up with gas. I swapped the lines and now it does. If you look closely above the short port it says "IN".
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Жыл бұрын
no, every purge bulb I've seen, with two different lengths of ports, the long one goes to the tank. if you take the purge out, put two lines on to it, and then put the lines in a jar with gasoline this will confirm this.
@stewgotz2898
@stewgotz2898 Жыл бұрын
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE I did this test before I posted. First with the hose from the long port in a jar with gas and the primer did not fill. I then switched and put the hose from the short port in the jar and it primed. I did this with both the original primer from the saw that later cracked and with the new one I got from Amazon. If you put both lines in the jar with gas of course that will work because its drawing the gas from one of the ports :)

I agree with you in purging all fuel from the fuel lines and carburetor will help keep the components in good shape, i personally drain all fuel from all my equipment if i know they will be stored for more than a couple of days and it really helps to preserve all the soft parts, i also believe prolonged fuel exposure causes a lot of damage And as for the comments that purging the fuel will dry out the diphragms i really disagree, if that was true i guess all the diphragms would be already bad from the packaging

It all depends, Donyboy73 (Don Desjardins) says mower shops would charge 1 hours labour in Canada to repair it which costs $100-$120 CAD so I would do it myself since I have the abilities & patience to do it. He was explaining how a chainsaw which had a tree fall on it wasn't worth repairing because the plastic parts broke on it despite the engine,oil & fuel tanks,etc were still alright om it,the cost of parts & labour was only $100 CAD less than buying a brand new chainsaw !

Fun small saw. We have two taiwanese copies of this saw both 38cc. Both have oiler issues. One excessive oiling and now no oil anymore and the other one no oil. So I need to take them apart both to check the oil pump and line. Carburetor type is Walbro WT439. One saw has probably issue with the carburetor (checkvalve or metering diaphragm issue -- flooding ). If idle speed somewhat low it falls on its face when releasing throttle from full speed

Those are junk! It may start but that'll likely be the best news you'll get. The oil pump is usually the 1st thing that breaks. It's twixt the flywheel & the crankcase. How many of these do you want?

Those have very fragile oil pumps, it's twixt the flywheel & crankcase. They're low on power & do fairly well with a 14" bar, better with a 12". Have 3 of these given to me & I won't do anything with 'em except use for parts. They're a Chinese POS!
