I feel like it's worth mentioning that Elise PROBABLY caused Dalton's possession. Those red doors all hold something back. When she opens the red door that shows Dalton, she DOES NOT CLOSE THE DOOR when she leaves. As the Further accesses different times, I feel like Elise caused his possession by leaving that door open to him.

The cliff hanger in 3 makes sense when you take into account that she seen Dalton in THE LAST KEY. Opening the red door and seeing him must have led Red face and the long hair dude to him. So she's kinda the cause of the events in the first film.

The ending made it clear that everything that happened in the first Insidious was Elise’s fault. If she hadn’t left the door open in the Lambert’s attic, Dalton wouldn’t have been able to venture into the Further and gotten lost as Elise herself explained in the first movie. That’s how the Lipstick Face Demon got to him. Really made me mad because she didn’t just cause that but her own death as well. If Josh hadn’t gone into the further to save Dalton, Parker wouldn’t have possessed him and finally killed Elise 🙄🙄

My fiancée and I watched this in theatres, she’d lost her mom a few years back - and when Elise’s mom came up and laid the WWE Smackdown on that key face demon, it brought her to tears of joy. It still does to this day, I love that the Mama absolutely mollywhomped the demon into oblivion - favorite part of the franchise.

@King anime Master The reason why Chapter 4 wasn't well explained was because James Wan didn't direct the whole movie through. At that time, he was directing two movies, The Nun and The Insidious: Chapter 4. He had to chose which to direct. Hence, he direct both of them like some scenes, but he chose to direct The Nun more, so it's ending of The Nun kinda flopped a bit and Chapter 4 didn't really went out well. Both movies also had other directors too, so some scenes were handled by them.

You missed the fact that when they opened the door to the Lambert’s attic they forgot to close it so maybe that’s how the red devil got Dalton, because in the first movie after Dalton falls from the stairs he stares at the direction of the door which means that he saw Elise and after that Dalton screams so probably he saw the red devil and got supper scared. And the door is open so the red devil got out and that’s how he got to Dalton and if you take a look back in the first movie they make a lot of emphasis on the window where the red devil appears at the end. That’s just my theory tho 🤔

Yeah this was implied in the movie, but it wouldn't make sense, because in Insidious 1 it is stated that Dalton got lost in the further while in an astral projection, which is how the red demon trapped him... Dalton's cameo in The Last Key simply looks like a silly, nonsensical nod which is there only to provide a connection to the original story of the first two movies

I really enjoyed the insidious series and I’m glad that it came full circle. The monsters could have a bit more... insidious or grotesque, but other than that the pace of storytelling and concluding the series as is was satisfying in today’s horror and slash repetitive bore fests and I’ve watch a lot horror movies in my time. I watched this when I was younger, before many interactions with horror films and it spooked me of course, but the one thing that really got me was the build up of the girl in the bathroom, whom Elise believed to be a ghost, a feeling that her father seemed to back up. It's called a prologue. Lord of the Rings does it in each film. When you saw Two Towers, its prologue shows an expanded scene halfway through the first film. This doesn't mean that the movie takes place in that time, it's just showing it to you to create context for the rest of the movie so you don't get confused.

I watched "Insidious: The Last Key" yesterday in theaters, without ever seeing the other movies in the franchise. Overall, it was pretty good. The beginning was scary when they told about Elise's childhood, because of the jump scares it had to offer. The ending did make me a little sad, however. It didn't have the fear that the beginning of the movie brought, making it not as enjoyable. That isn't to say that the ending was bad. When Elise's mother showed up, it gave me happiness to see that mother-daughter reunion, along with the brother-sister reunion when Elise goes to the hospital to check on Melissa after escaping the further. I am glad that Christian apologized to Elise in the end because come on; holding a grudge for that long? I understand that his father was an abusive man, but he could have run away before or after Elise when he was a child. It also gave me great joy that Elise's father sacrificed himself for his daughter at the end. It was a triple family reunion! Sort of. I don't know if seeing the father and beating him to death is considered a reunion, but it does give of the impression of a reunion when he sacrifices himself for Elise. The death of KeyFace could have been done a little better though. He dies after Elise blows the whistle that Imogen found, summoning her mother. Elise's mother then proceeds to kill Keyface by hitting him once. But come on! Only one hit and he's dead?! I was expecting something a little more intense. If KeyFace had fed off of the hatred of Elise's father all those years, then he should have been much stronger, making the final battle a little longer. I'm going to give this movie an 8-out-of-10. It has its flaws, but overall a great scary movie.

@Foundflix I thought the Last Key was a decent movie, but I thought there was a lot of unanswered questions. For instance, we were treated to the back story of the black bride, but they just skip over a lot of other main demonic enemies. I liked the addition of Key Face, but he is almost just a faceless demon without a cause or reason for being in the Insidious universe. In Insidious 3 we knew who the Demon with the oxygen was, who just ended up being a former resident of the apartment the family lived in. With Key Face there is no background or mythology behind the creature, which is a shame, because I think he was one of the more interesting looking demons in the series. One theory I do have is that Key Face was a newly formed demon of the man in the electric chair Alice was drawing at the very beginning of the film. He just died at that very moment, and it seemed that Alice was already connected to him, because she explained in very high detail about the man before he died (i.e. what he had for his last dinner etc.), and just happened to meet Key Face that very night. Plus it would make sense that it could be that person since he died in a prison and his further lair was a prison. Ultimately, I think the Last Key was okay, not great but not awful either.

I too feel the same way. It seems like Elise's father had been imprisoning and killing victims even before he killed the girl Elise saw in the laundry room. Elise says she wasn't the only one who was killed when she discovers those bags further inside the vent. So, maybe the day the prisoner died, he killed Elise's mum and then got into her father's head and made him imprison and kill victims since then without Elise's knowledge.

I wouldn't say I HATE this movie. But I was very very very disappointed. I wanted some answers. I got none. I wanted some truths. I got nothing. The plot was weak. It filt like a filler piece. And they seriously need to get James Wan back into the director's seat, because everything that I LOVED about the first two movies, is sorely lacking in the last two. They've become so generic and unoriginal.
