Excellent video - thank you very much. I was unsure whether my original key had a screw in it so took the logo off first. I didn't want to try to force it open if there was a screw present. You might comment on the video that originals don't have a screw. I was able to easily remove the logo by teasing the point of a sharp knife under the edge of the logo end lifting it out - caused no damage to my six year old key and glue held the logo firmly in place on the new one Thank you - Grandadjones..

Thank you very much for the demo, l bought a beautiful vauxhall insignia (2011) some 4 days ago, the key is only opening by the door, l cant use it remotely. Vauxhall is charging £130 to order a new key and it is tooo way off expensive as far as l am concerned. So Mr Car Key how best can l get this round. The other car key is totally crushed.

I recommend finding a local Auto Locksmith and ask them to look at why your key isn't doing what it's supposed to do

Don’t suppose you know where I can get this upgrade key housing from now do you? The link for Amazon says the product is unavailable and I can’t seem to find any anywhere else online.

Hey guys, just looking for a bit of advice. i have a 2002 nissan micra and i currently only have 1 key for it and only the unlock button works, so you have to use the key manually to lock it. I was thinking instead of worrying about repairing this one, i may as well get a full new one. I have received quotes of around £160 for a full key that has the immobiliser and the central locking. There's no way im paying that, especially when i got the car for free from a family member! Do you have any advice where i can possibly get a new cheap key or maybe i should just get a normal key cut without the features, to get me into the car if i ever locked the keys inside? that is easily done by the way as the car sometimes locks itself, a common problem on micras apparently. Thanks in advance

Hello there. Thanks for the question. This is a classic case of as the cars get older, the keys get more expensive. This is simply because they are made in lower volume. The remote part of your key, with the buttons, costs about £100 from the dealer, and about the same from other suppliers. There's no cheap way of doing it, unless you buy a 2nd hand part, which is probably in a state. I think a metal door key would be a great idea for two reasons. 1. As you suggest, if the car locks itself, you can get back in easily. 2. If you lose your car keys, you will be able to get a new one done much quicker. I would expect a door key will cost between £5 and £10 at a key cutting shop. Hope that helps you

@@TheCarKeyMan Hi, thanks very much for the reply. I think i will just get a normal key cut as you said just to unlock the doors. What would you think about trying to atleast get the one i have now in good condition? You can buy kits off ebay that come with a new plastic housing for the key as well as new micro switches. They only cost a couple of quid. maybe this could get my current key back into working order?
@TheCarKeyMan5 жыл бұрын
The problem with the cases is that they are varying quality. They are not anywhere as good as the rubber that comes with a genuine key. We've seen some of the cases that are rock hard, or if they are flexible then they split easily. Maybe you should try one and see how you get on with it. Do the electric switches still work?
@MrSkeedle5 жыл бұрын
@@TheCarKeyMan Hi. no the electrical switch for the lock button has fallen off. So that is clearly why it isnt working. im going to double check it tomorrow by poking the fallen apart switch to see if it will lock the car. if so i can order the replacement switches, a plastic case with the new rubber and a fresh battery for £3. if its crap ill just get a refund! Im good with soldering so im hoping i can just swap the electrical switches out and it will be as good as new. what do you think?
@TheCarKeyMan5 жыл бұрын
If you can solder, then you're laughing. It will probably be best to put new switches on but use the old case. The replacement switched don't always fit properly. Let us know how you get on ;)
