Likely because it's one of the few(only?) gas engines in this video. Diesels are luggish and heavy and just don't have the hp to get wheel speed fast.

Good on the young blokes in the tritons helping snatch blokes out. But jeezus snatching off the tow ball is a massive no no. Only have to watch KZbin clips of what can go wrong when you do this.

Bill Roach its probably more then that too. I wonder if they have left DSC on as well. You need to turn it off or you will have a bad time on sand even if you drop tyre pressures down to 15 PSI.

@Gunshy55
@Gunshy55 4 жыл бұрын
@@Aidan.17 Exactly right. Traction control in sand = "instant bogged". All tyres naturally spin in sand and the DSC uses the brakes to stop them spinning and brings you to a halt. I use high range, 84 Kpa (12psi) and no traction control where I go and the sand is a lot softer there. That is not soft sand!

I once saw an army G wagon (with in dash tyre pressure!!)bogged at freshwater campsite carpark, not far from inskip. It was getting by-passed by an early ‘90s Vitara. His very un- bogged army G wagon buddy’s were not impressed. Tyre pressure is very much part of the G wagon course. Great fun to watch though. 😂

Drop pressure on trailers as well so it stays on top makes massive difference. Just look at some of the trailers and you will see the wheels are hardly turning but being scull dragged through the sand.

Looking at these videos from Ireland, we are amazed to see all the big overland prepped trucks and it looks amazing fun. What is difficult to understand though, is that given how common this kind of thing is in Australia, why does it seem like hardly anyone has a clue how to drive on soft sand given driving on it appears to be common practice. Worse though, is the way people stand around next to vehicles being snatched. I wouldn't even snatch someone is bystanders refused to get out of the way when asked.

I was there on this day, what a comedy of errors. From the fellow in the BT50, trying to knock out his towing hitch to put in a recovery hitch, with the locking bolt still screwed in. To the Patrol giving it full curry to snatch someone out, when someone asks what PSI he is at, replies snidely, "I have lowered it to 25" To the rolly polly fellow at about 19mins, pushing between the vehicle and trailer, of a vehicle getting snatched out, and almost gets squashed when the vehicle suddenly gets unstuck.

I'm seeing the best way to snatch-recover (from the recovery car perspective) is to let off just at the moment of snatching, so many cars dig in because they gas it and just bury themselves, best to let off, don't dig in, then apply gentle power to keep moving. If you stop dead at the snatch point, better to throw the clutch in, back up and have another go.

Q.1 Is this a designated road? Keep left sign, no i'll go right because left is blocked. Q.2 Why can some get through with ease and others can't with the same vehicle?

1: you're supposed to go left, like a road you can cross to the other side if it's clear, but don't be a wanker and get stuck and have both sides blocked. 2: different drivers, different tyre pressures ect, 99% if the time those who know what they're doing are fine and the noob city folks who know nothing outside the office just get bogged, mostly because they won't listen to advice.

@@Darndiddlyarn There is loads of "experienced" drivers who won't listen to advice and refuse to drop pressures. Not just the newbies unfortunately.

@jason R I'll be one of those who neglect to lower tire pressures majority of the time, yet to be bogged though Then again if it's a high traffic day I will, to completely eliminate the risk of causing traffic and being videod here

@@Ronniealio Yep you can drive in the sand with high pressures but you usually need to flog the crap out of the car to maintain momentum. Uses more fuel, is harder on engine/trans, don't see it's worth the effort myslef.

I am lazy, that's the short of it but I do respect the fact that if my actions are at risk of affecting everyone else by being bogged, avoiding pedestrians I'll take the time to air down

I dont get why no one air right the way down in sand. I go down to 12PSI and never have an issues getting stuck. Truck and trailer that is.

If everyone did what the driver of the white troopy and red trailer did when they got stuck in loose sand there might not be these videos, No need for snatching with sand flying up 5 metres into the air.
