This is good for the DIYer; plumbers don't often do this any more.

That is all very good indeed but I am not able to get to the stage of even changing the washer because the tap cover/skirt that you removed at 1.57 is stuck good and proper on my kitchen sink cold tap and I am having to endure a runny not dripping tap. I have tried everything that I can think of to try to remove the damned thing including dousing it with boiling water. Using rubber gloves to get a good grip on it and using all of my strength won't make it budge. I have even got a very strong friend to try to remove it but he couldn't and gave up. It looks like I will have to cut it off with a hacksaw and I don't know if I'll be able to get a replacement one. If I do manage to get a replacement I'll coat the threads with Vaseline and screw it on just finger tight.

Try tapping the skirt chrome piece with a light toffee hammer all the way around the outside of it, also try some WD 40 on it.

I wonder if you could help to solve a mysterious problem with my Hot Bath Tap. When I first turn it on, it runs fine and then, when it gets hotter, it starts to run as a trickle and then it eventually and suddenly starts to runs fast again. What's going on? The water is fed from my combi boiler in my kitchen, but that doesn't seem to be the cause of the problem and I've already replaced the taps, which made no difference. It's like the pipe or valve below the tap is expanding with the hot temperature and then settles when it gets used to it. Would a reseating tool help perhaps?
@dereton332 жыл бұрын
It is not your tap but the 3 way valve on the combi boiler.

@@dereton33 I don't believe I have such a problem with my combi boiler supplying hot water. My hot water is OK in my kitchen, so it is unlikely to be a problem with the boiler. Thanks anyway. Æ

@@dereton33 Just a wee update. I got an excellent new Navien boiler and I've just run my first new boiler bath. The hot water flowed well. So, you may well have been correct about the problem with the old boiler 3 way valve after all. My old boiler was 15 years old, so it probably needed replacement. Thanks for your advice. Æ 🙏
