Animals are not human thus human morality does not apply all that is and ought to be applied is natural law. Thus man can and ought to eat meat and hunt. Dignity is the only concern. God did not make all creation equal. In rekation to hin they are all equal and yet in relation to each other they are not. Equality is a base assumption of veganism and many other liberal ideals. 5,000 Years ago - Great Flood / Deluge. It is suggested before the flood, there was so much cloud cover, that enough sun could not cause a rainbow. Also, 5,000 years ago, People some where where eating meat, They continued to eat meat after the flood. They had meat on their boats to survive a year at sea. There are many ark stories out there, each with their own history. Don't teach story as the only version.

Right on! God let them know what they could eat, rightly dividing up the resources so that the animals did not feel we were competing with them for resources. Though competition stepped in after The Fall, He still let people and animals know what their boundaries were and did likewise after The Flood. That was His Way/Personality/Character...and there is a reason. Think of how we feed babies. Do we start them off on meat? NO! We start them off with milk, then fruit, then vegetables, and...after that...meat. God started Adam and Eve on the milk of His Love and companionship along with fruit. Then after the fall, they were given vegetation, according to Genesis 3:18. And we know vegetation was what He was referring to here because of the language He used in what He gave all other animals to eat in 1:30, calling them “plants,” according to the NIV. Then after The Flood, He gave them meat. When God allowed them to eat meat, there was a reason. The earth had changed, as shown through Noah accidentally getting drunk off fermented juice since things decayed much more rapidly which we know is true because of how people then aged much more quickly; and God was letting them know that it was the ONLY kind of violence He was going to allow for the purpose of nutrition. However, He made sure to point out that any person’s blood shed by another, EVEN BY ANIMALS, was going to be called into account. Then later after Jesus died and resurrected, the food allowed to be eaten at certain times was all symbolic for us as His spiritual children. As for ‘dominating’ the animals goes, we frequently use terms like ‘domination’ to mean enslavement or forcing others to work or having authority to command them to do things they otherwise would not do for whatever reason. When did slave owners EVER eat their slaves or workers...except maybe in times of famine though most would have rather died than eat another human being? The purpose of killing these animals and shedding their blood was only in sacrifice and to use as coverings, representing what Jesus was going to do for us in the future with His own Physical Being. Did we physically EAT Jesus’ Flesh and Blood? No. Perhaps we do spiritually, but not physically, as Jesus said that His Words on the matter were ‘SPIRIT.’ If they had physically eaten the animals before The Flood, it would have symbolized in the future Christians actually eating Jesus Physically, too, instead of His Water and Blood simply covering us as clothing and as a robe so that we could appear before Him in His Goodness and Righteousness forever. So was the dead animal meat just wasted which seems the host of this channel seems to be implying? Well, let’s look at God’s Character yet again in what He has done in the past, the backstory, if you will. Think of many trees. They produce so many lush leaves; yet in the wild, they seem wasted when they fall especially when people and animals do not eat them when they are poisonous. Yet there they are...all are seemingly wasted after having served their original purpose of helping make food for the tree. Sometimes animals eat some of them if they aren’t poisonous but most of the time not. But they aren’t wasted. Often it goes back into the soil to create fertilizer in order further to feed the tree or other vegetation. So just because people and animals don’t eat the leaves does not mean there wasn’t a purpose for what seems like a complete waste, for God always gives freely and abundantly. In like manner, just because people didn’t eat the meat of the animals doesn’t mean the meat wasn’t used as fertilizer for the soil. Does anyone know how much good animal blood and flesh and bones do for soil in order to grow trees and plants? It’s incredible! Obviously, His giving freely and abundantly is His Way/Personality/Character. The old old adage “waste not want not” certainly does NOT apply to God. He means to give to the point of one’s cup running over most especially in spiritual matters...again typified by the physical. This situation behind not eating the meat of animals because of representing future events reminds me of why Moses was kept out of the Promise Land. God told Moses simply to SPEAK to The Rock so that it would bring forth Life Giving Water to the very thirsty Israelites who were going to die without it. But what did Moses do? He struck it instead. Not only did He strike it, but in a further demonstration of his fury against the Israelites for simply crying out to him for Water, he struck it TWICE. However, God said it ‘dishonored’ Him to the point that Moses was kept out of the Promise Land. Why? The reason is that then Jesus was beaten up/struck, not once, but TWICE for us two separate groups of people (the Jews and the Gentiles). It was humiliating and dishonored Him in more ways than one when all that should have happened was His humane death as He laid down His Life for us all at the hand of the Levitical High Priest. Levi was chosen as such because of what Levi and Simeon had done to the son of the king who had raped their young sister Dinah. Only Levi was filled with such violence that he could take part in killing his own brother. But again, their fury did not stop there but then went on to persecute to death all of the king’s subjects, too, causing the nations around them to hate them. So Jacob their father had to seek God’s protection from the towns/nations around them. And what did the Jews originally do to Christians after Jesus came back to life? Mmm hmm. And what has been happening to them as a result? And what does Scripture tell us will happen when the nations surround them to wipe them out as a nation? God supernaturally intervenes and delivers them, just like with regard to Jacob and his sons. But now get this: God used that situation with Moses (which incidentally in like manner seemed greatly to dishonor Moses though again God used it to tell His Story of Jesus, which in turn then honored God and Moses) in order to get across symbolically to His future people that the covenant of the law could not bring them into the Promise Land of Grace. And God emphasized it by naming the person bringing them into the Promise Land ‘Joshua,’ which is the English version of ‘Yeshua,’ said in the Greek ‘Iesous’ or in our English language ‘Jesus.’ See? He has a reason for EVERYTHING He has done in Scripture. So Adam’s offspring knew they were not to cross that line possibly for a symbolic future reason. They were more than intelligent, living typically over 500 years and often over 700 years in order greatly to amass knowledge, turning it into technology but sadly often to their own harm. As it was, Cain crossed the line by murdering His brother Abel, which then was typified by the Jews killing their own Brother Jesus (though really He laid down His Life for us) by handing Him over to the Romans to slay, just like Joseph’s brother’s did him (though he lived after all was said and done like Jesus did when He was resurrected back to life). They all knew everything they did could have later consequences. That’s why they lived under the covenant of conscience then, developed further by what God said they could eat, before the covenant of the law was given through Moses to those who believed...which was before the covenant of grace was given through what Jesus did for those who believe. So instead of trying to discredit what God says and what God has allowed or hasn’t allowed, I don’t understand why people don’t instead seek Him for how come He did it a certain way, asking Him in a respectful manner in sincerity, not with attitude because they have an ax to grind. He is the giver of all wisdom. He gives it freely without reservation when asked sincerely with good motives. Thus, we should just ask Him and then share with each other what we’ve been blessed with by Him. That’s my take on it all anyway.

@@BeardedBarley1 Humans did eat meat before God gave meat as food for humans after the flood. We know this by way of anthropology (though the dating methods are wrong and the assumption about which came first hunter gathers or farmers is also wrong). Cain was the first of the hunter/gatherers because he could no longer grow his own food so he was forced to find it out in the wild. While it's possible that Cain was the first to eat meat I don't necessarily think that is the case but his descendants did start soon after.

I was raised a Seventh-dad Adventist, and the SDA church heavily promotes vegetarianism. This passage is often cited by them as evidence that humans shouldn't eat meat. But I was able to figure out on my own that this was bunk because BEFORE the flood God made a distinction to Noah between clean and unclean animals, which would imply that humans were already eating meat.

As an SDA, I would say that the strongest argument for the intent of vegetarianism in humans is the shape of our teeth. In the entire fossil record, we divide all animals into carnivores and herbivores based simply on the shape of their teeth. Well... look at our teeth. Meat isn't supposed to be part of our diet.

So is the size of our brains, the length of our digestive systems and amount of hydrochloric acid in our stomachs, which all correspond more to omnivores than herbivores. So is our lack of ability to digest cellulose, either through rumination or hindgut fermentation (the next time you poop, you're more likely to see kernels of corn than chunks of meat.) And so is the motion of our jaws when we chew, which is up and down instead of circular like in herbivores.

I have that too, and noticed that he also said following your quote: “Some, as early as the classical Midrash, have glimpsed here a Zeus-Chronos story in which the son castrates the father or, alternatively, penetrates him sexually.” He is referring to Kronos (Cronus), the brother of Iapetus and father of Zeus, castrating his father Uranus. Iapetus is mentioned in The NET Bible footnote for Genesis 10:2: “The Greek form of the name Japheth, Iapetos, is used in Greek tradition for the ancestor of the Greeks.” So the brother of Iapetos (Japheth) was also involved with a sexual indiscretion with his father. Similarly, in Hittite mythology, Anu is overthrown by his own son Kumarbi; Anu attempts to flee, but Kumarbi bites off Anu’s genitals. Here, Kumarbi may sound like Ham in Hebrew with the guttural H. Anu here sounds like Noah. In another similarity to the Kronos story, Uranus sounds similar to Anu and are both sky gods.

@GBF freeloader The interesting thing that I read in Genesis is when we read that God "breathed life" into Man. Note that humans exist, then God's breath fills humans. I have always thought this meant that homo sapiens were the evolved beings God was awaiting through His design, and He gave us a soul--or if you prefer, moral agency--and the ability to have a relationship with our Him. At any rate, one theory is that 7 species of hominids evolved other than homo sapiens, another claims 9, and there are might be others. In other words, there's no certainty in any of that.

The makes sense because when we consider God's laws and decrees they are always intended to show man his sin and lead him to salvation. Therefore decrees from God regarding a specific diet seem unlikely. Good points here that challenge some possibly erroneous traditions. Thanks for detailed work and presentation.

If you think it through, that's obviously nonsense. What is the only type of food which is made specifically by plants to be eaten in a mutually beneficial relationship, and thus the only truly ethical food where no plant or animal is harmed in the process of creating and eating it? Fruit. What is the food God specifically states is the food of mankind in the earliest reference to food in the Bible? Fruit. What is the only food which is known for the mountains upon mountains of scientific evidence for it being beneficial to all aspects of human health without exception? Fruit. Me and many others have lived on fruit exclusively for decades, and people have been doing the same for millennia. There's literally no excuse not to for anyone with abundant access to fruit.

It doesn’t specifically states that God used animal skin to clothe Adam and Eve, and even if we grant that, notice how it was done because of sin man did, but the text doesn’t actually says it’s the skin of an animal With the offering, notice how it’s done after the fall of the world, as there was no such thing as offerings in Eden, and it’s very very possible that they didn’t eat it, especially since they had no concept of eating animals at that time, so it would have been odd to them And if you read Isaiah passages in the Bible, it clearly describes a vegan world in God’s perfect world, which Eden was until Adam sinned, so man was vegan in Eden since it was God’s perfect world until things went downhill, and we will probably be vegan again in the upcoming kingdom, though we are currently in a sinful world so things are not ideal But pretty nice video, I actually think your kinda underrated, you should be getting more views, but am glad we have Patreon to keep underrated artists up-float

@jeisa Jeis I'm not sure that the mixing ie marriage out side the culture has changed the over all outcomes. Also think of the Ethiopian Jew, air lift in 1991. They had been cut off from contact with all there Jewish people for generations. They had some of the oldest scrolls in the world and still practiced all the traditions on the same days as all other Jewish people around the world. Most of them that made it to America are doctors and engineers. The overall story of the Hebrew, Jew, race, religion, and overall culture is a complicated and very interesting one.

Of course they did. The idea or claim that some make that humans were not eating meat before the flood is even non-scriptural while is also is against what archaeological studies show. In Genesis, we read: Gen 7:2 ASV Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee seven and seven, the male and his female; and of the beasts that are not clean two, the male and his female: The whole concept of clean and unclean animals has only one single application -- namely, that of eating. It has no other significance. Thus by the Bible people before the flood ate meat.

I want to make a video game (of sorts) that is essentially the entire bible in the form of what I would consider to be modern media as less and less people actually read books. But calling it a game doesn't sound right either since the "game" would be fundamentally different to the typical 9 to 14 hour story driven game you might imagine(notably, it would be way longer and larger in scope). I give it a lot of thought and one of the hardest things to resolve is the compromise on what exactly to present as people have all sorts of different interpretations that they've internalized so it probably wouldn't make anyone happy. When you read it it's open to interpretation so you can write it literally and that could mean a number of different things to people, but if you're seeing it on a screen rendering in real time some very important questions need answered first. Your videos are very helpful in this respect and I also read the comments to see what other people think too.

If you do, perhaps do old testament only in my opinion as NT is too heavily contested in terms of doctrine compared to OT. Additionally, deuterocanon could be a dlc as protestants don't affirm it while catholics and orthodox do.

He also draws along bow at his interpretation of the phase "dominon over" in that it means to eat of. If we take IPs argument and apply it to the text where God has dominon over man this would mean God will eat us any time hes feeling peckish. So no, Man was not meant to eat flesh but due to the flood coveing the WHOLE earth it left the the gound with little top soil initally, God allowed Noah meat for food as a provision for the lack of plant matter.

Quite elucidating as before. I am in particular thrilled about the God's bow and the Adam - Noah parallels. Good stuff. But I think one needs to understand the depth of ancient Middle East and African reverence for their parents to see that Ham couldn't have slept with his own mother as an euphemism for seeing his father's nakedness. In the culture it is shameful of a child to see his father's nakedness and talk about it. Cain could be Ham's favourite child, the one he dotes upon.

Michael, I enjoy your videos and I appreciate that you cite sources. While your arguments have great explanatory scope and power, I do not share all your views. In regards to Noah and his nakedness, I’m surprised to see you take the traditional, and incorrect view ( meaning Ham saw Noah naked). Any one familiar with Leviticus knows that the language in use here is idiomatic, and that it is really saying “Ham had sex with Noah’s wife”. You do not need to take my word for it. “Leviticus 20:11 (ESV): 11 If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness…” See? This makes much more sense, and would explain why Noah curses Canaan, and not Ham.

So many flawed assumptions here, just to force a point that is not evident from the text. It is based on a flawed view of history too. If God skinned animals and Abel sacrificed them, it doesn´t imply people were eating the meat. Not at all. It is clear from the text the use of those animals: sacrifices. There are still a LOT of animals that are killed for any number of reasons, but not for food. Skins, buttons, horns, weapons, trophies, experiments, rituals, etc. Also, people could raise cattle for dairy products, plowing, transport, without thinking in eating them. You are forcing an argument on the text not for the sake of the text, but for sake of modern cultural requirements. The text is intended to be understood as this: Humans weren´t supposed to be carnivores BEFORE the flood. Gen 1:28 doesn´t imply eating. It states the supreme position of the image of God on earth over lower creatures, mimicking God´s supreme position over lower creatures. I don´t remember God eating humans or animals, fish or birds, just because he is sovereign over them.

I never realized that Genesis 9 was supposed to be the fall of Noah. Getting drunk is normalized in Modern Western Culture, so I assumed that him getting drunk was not a big deal, possibly even a regular occurrence and that Ham was the only wrongdoer for taking advantage of Noah's drunken state.

Regarding the curse of Canaan, in early Genesis, what is blessed is never cursed later on and what's cursed is never blessed (God can't curse the man, Adam, so he curses the ground, Adamah). Ham has been blessed by God as one of Noah's sons, so he can't be cursed. That's why Noah can only curse Canaan. God punished offspring and subjects in the OT (look at David), since in ancient societies they were considered an extension of oneself.

Genesis is an ALLEGORY, not literal historical narrative. Of course, when we say allegory, it means SYMBOLIC WRITING THAT REPRESENT SOMETHING REAL. That is why meany are lost in understanding it because they are not sensitive with the genre of it.

Hey @InspiringPhilosophy . I watched your video about the meaning of "subdue" in Gen 1. I noticed that one of the slides gave all of the instances and usages for it in the OT. However when I looked up Esther 7:9, one of the verses listed, the Hebrew word nor its number in Strong's concordance was to be found, neither was sexual assault ever talked about in it (you said the usage in that verse was "a locution of sexual assault"). Anyone who knows the answer can respond too.

So, this means that we must aim to do all things which will cause the least amount of suffering, possible; and to only cause suffering, in the most minimal amount, and compassionate way possible, when it is absolutely necessary. If animal meat is required for our survival, then, it is a necessity to eat meat. But, we must only do so if it is necessary for our survival. And, we must only treat the animal and kill the animal in the most dignified fashion that we are capable, which aims to cause the least amount of suffering (this includes how we kill them, and the conditions that we expose them to until their death). These are the ways of dignity. These are also the ways of reasonable compassion. Imo, God would hope and expect nothing less of each of us. 2. I agree, we should expect suffering. But, we shouldn't cause it. (Not unless it is absolutely necessary).

True if you define unconditional love as forgiving us unconditionally on what we’ve done. But it is conditional based on if we come to Christ for forgiveness or not, that’s up to us and if we continue to walk with him and him being our Lord, we’re gonna do what he says, that part is conditional as well. If we don’t walk in the light as he is in the light (God’s not stupid) the blood of Jesus will not cleanse us from all sin. First John 1:7. He wants us to be like Jesus he wants to be like the father be perfect as Your heavenly father is perfect and holy is he is holy and go and sin no more. I feel necessary to bring up this truth especially in the day and age of hyper grace which we live in. Jesus has many Commandments one website says 1050 Commandments. We aren’t under the Old Testament law but we do have the law of Christ Galatians 6:2 first Corinthians 9:21. For instance, the great commission go commit evangelism not sin. what’s the opposite of the great commission? the great omission not doing what the great commission is. The word “works “ gets a bad rap but not from the Bible only from main stream Christendom in the 21st-century.

The first Adam was a different constitution then we are today. Before the first Adam fell he was more spirit like he was vegetarian but after the fall he was given a coat of "skin", but it wasn't a fur coat he was given a flesh body like animals and this is why we have a tendency to eat meat. Until you can get back to your original body constitution don't bother being vegetarian because it goes against your flesh animal body until YHVH makes things right again.

Well, I think the reason was that before the flood they were farmers, so they had crops for food. Then you know how floods can ruin the crops, so after the flood, the land had to recuperate so for necessity they had to hunt for food and eat meat. I mean until they started farming again of course.

Or was noah the only obedient one of the line of adam?/ what about noahs sons... Did they really populate the world.How is that possible? I see why this might seem right if you already believe in deep time and the idea that these are not the first people on earth. And especially if you understand animals to be carnivorous for vast periods of time prior to man appearing on the scene. But if Noah is given permission and it is listed in the text it seems to suggest it is a new concept. And that is the historic, Jewish interpretation.

The curse from Noah is not dealing with punishment, but rather conversion. The Canaanites are to be converted through conquest as servants like in the NT, the Japhethites shall live in colonies and cities and worship with the Shemites, and the Shemites will function as a priestly line. This is a prophecy about conversion, Noah still loving all of his sons. He wanted them all to worship God in truth, but he recognized that they would have to be converted in different ways. The proper definitions of the words in this passage make this apparent.

I’m not sure if this relevant or accurate, but when I heard of the “nakedness” rape connection with Leviticus, I went and checked out the AMP and OJB translations to try and get a better sense of the original language/meaning. It looks like the authors are not using the same words in both instances. That sort of leads me to believe the explanation that Ham raped Noah’s wife might be a dead end.

I find the idea of (Noah's nakedness) referring to actual nudity, difficult to except. Unless it wasn't an accident, or it happened because he violated a rule ment to prevent such a sin. Like not entering someone else's tent unless invited. And if that's the case, God would have specified such details. Plus I am under the impression that God's only issue with nudity, is our lack of ability to handle it without temptations, shame, or judgements. In other words, for our sake. Although, it could possibly be, that he disrespected his father (1 of ten commandments at least later on). By shaming him, criticizing him, or making fun of his nudity. But, considering past uses of this phrase, and a man and woman becoming 1. It's likely of a sexual nature. While curiosity makes me wonder, I believe all the possibilities to be wrong(sins). Though knowing might reveal a deeper understanding.

Noah had every right to be naked in his own tent whether he was drunk or not. Ham didn't have a right to enter without permission just like a child doesn't have the right to enter their parents room (with a closed door) without permission. Ham shamed his father by going and telling his brothers about their father's state, and while we don't know Ham's character it's not too hard to know that he probably embellished or simply insulted his father because we all know someone like that.

Remember, it took 150 days for the waters to subside. That's over 3-months. What other flood do you know of that took more than a season of the year to drain off? My mom told the story of the 1937 flood on the Ohio River. It was terrible. It was a regional flood (which violated the promise of God to never again destroy a "region" with water) but it didn't take 3-months to drain away. It took YEARS to clean up after the flood but the waters were gone in a few days - maybe a week.

Except the flood of Noah was a supernatural event, whereas the 1937 flood on the Ohio River was a natural event. So God didn't violate his promise.

We have geological evidence of a global seawater rise ~12,000 years ago, or ~ 8,000 years before Abraham. It would have come on rapidly and covered a significant portion of the earth. Perhaps this could be the flood we know of. Plato (i think) was recorded as saying that Atlantis was destroyed by a flood ~9,000 years before his time.
