A new garbage disposal can cost as little as $50. The biggest savings comes from not hiring a plumber to handle the installation. Typically, the job takes a couple of hours, at an average cost of $100 per hour for a licensed plumber.
Read the installation instructions in the owner's manual to identify the disposal parts and take a photo of the parts before your installation. We found that even if you follow all steps and all garbage disposal parts are in working order, a lot of times it is still confusing if you don't understand the underlying design or if you still wonder why the instruction specifies certain steps/actions, especially if you are installing one for the first time. That is why we provide detailed explanation to ensure that your garbage disposal installation is a straightforward and successful process. If your new disposal and the old one are the same type, an alternative to watching our video is to take a few moments to familiarize yourself with all these parts before you jump into removing the old unit. Put them together in the correct order and try out the locking mechanism. Understanding how everything fits together ahead of time will make the job easier.

Many types of garbage disposals begin to wear out after a number of years. You can get a longer warranty if you pay higher prices. So besides choosing a garbage disposal based on its size and horsepower, and matching them to your household’s needs, you also need to consider the price and warranty period. This video discusses some points for you to consider. Also be aware that when choosing a new disposal, some building codes require a dedicated outlet with certain amperage under the sink near the disposal.
