John Otis I totally agree! That Gold Zinc Chromate adds some awesome protection and gives it a really unique look!

Nice vid. I will definitely be changing out my draglink this week (went with Rock Jock Correctlynk drag link) after 10 years, it's time. I have lots of play in the steering wheel. Just did the tie rod, last weekend. Man, what a difference.

It looked like you used blue lock tight on your tie rod ends instead of anti seize??

I notice you guys used the pickle fork to separate to help remove the old ball joint on the old tie rod. Since the old one was being tossed, is there a reason you didn't just leave the nut slightly on and hammer down on that to loosen things?

you know i went with a metalcloak lift and didnt even know they made drag links, i just thought synergy when i did mine up. it looks beefy!

john lopes oh it’s awesome. When my stock one wears out I will definitely be replacing all of the front steering components with Metalcloak!

Thnx for putting this video together. I have one question. I notice everyone ties the steering wheel, but why isnt anyone addressing the hubs moving? I'm thinking the answer is because you are finding an exact measurement between the old drag link and the new?? But I'm not 100% this is why only my assumption and no one ever clearly states that is why.

dm gmail yes, we measure the old one, make the new one the same size, and then go get it aligned afterwards.

Should have used antiseize instead of locktite... made this mistake once... ;-)

Ok so why did you install the drag link knuckle side bottom up? Im just confused as my 4.5 instructions say "drill a 7/8, insert spacer, flip drag link (so top going down into the knuckle) and tighten up.

You’re describing the difference between a standard drag link setup and a drag link flip. My JK has a 4.5” lift, so I upgraded to high Steer knuckles and flipped my drag link to avoid bump steer. Ryan’s jeep only has a 3 inch lift, so doing a drag link flip isn’t as necessary

Not sure. I would assume so, since it’s not actually attached to the axle but connecting the wheels.

I just did this on my 18 JL .I had to stack the pickle fork on top of a 24mm open end wrench and it popped.

@@1111Overland eh. 37x12.5. the new JLs come with the most lightweight components ever. Stock track bar was 6lbs lol.

BertandJeep yeah, I know what you mean. I am going 37‘s next time and choosing to get everything upgraded before I switch from 35s... so over the course of the next year or two I’ll have steering box, brakes, drag link, tire rod etc. all upgraded and then I will throw 37’s on and do the Rubicon Trail!

Don’t use ock tight your tie rod ends. Looked like you put blue lock tight on threads. Should use anti-seize.
