So I'm getting some reports that people have to go into Developer mode for this to work and others where they don't. I've done it on a few different Chromebooks and haven't had to go into Developer Mode so I'm trying to figure out the pattern. Update for anyone having trouble. I had this issue and the commands offered didn't work. I deleted then reinstalled linux. During the setup, before enabling the gpu acceleration. After doing the "sudo apt upgrade" command, i notice a message saying to reboot for the files to take affect (or something like that). I turned off and back on my chromebook, enabled gpu acceleration then installed mesa utils and was able to download and run steam no issues. Hope this helps!

Do you know what type of processors are in your Chromebook? Unfortunately I think this method only works for x86 based processors and not ARM based.

so I found a partial solution. To fix the libc.so.6 error, run the following: "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386" followed by "sudo apt install libxtst6:i386". This at least got steam to start up and begin updating; however, a few minutes later, it ran into a fatal error. So now trying figure it out. At least I got time to work on it since, I'm under quarantine due to COVID +

I have all the files and everything installed, but when i try to open steam it says i am missing /libc.so.6/ which is supposedly a 32 bit library, while i am running 64 bit, so steam wont run.

Try this: Copy the .deb file from Downloads to Linux Files. Go into terminal (the Linux terminal, not the ChromeOS one) and typing: sudo dpkg -i steam_latest.deb Let me know if that works or if you get the same errors.

@@Bryan-xw8eb that means its not compatible with Linux you can only play games that are supported with Linux unless you go to settings and enable steam play beta updates then go down and find steam play and click the check marks and restart steam the game's don't work for me but maybe it will work for you hope this helped
