Nice shoutout to Bushpig Performance, Dino. They are great folks. My purchases from them have gone very well. Ill be buying one of those Tusk air filters when I order new chain and sprockets, plus cush drive bushings and a cush drive/sprocket housing bearing. Shocking how worn those cush drive components are after 20000 kms!

Hi Dino. I'm very glad I found your channel. I recently bought my first motorcycle, an old Suzuki XF650 Freewind (road-touring version of DR650) and your videos are very helpful for me. Unfortunately, in Europe you can't buy a new DR650 due to stupid requirements, which is a shame because I think this bike would be very popular. Suzuki should update it a bit to modern requirements (fuel injection, ABS) to be able to sell it in Europe. I would buy it immediately. The prices of old used bikes are horrendously high. Luckily there is also XF650, which is not killing with its price :-) Thanks for all your videos and Greetings from Poland.

Thank you for your comments, I agree, Suzuki should freshen up to old girl to make it meet emissions but still keep it simple for those who don't want or need a lot of tech on there bike. Just a simple, reliable motor, good suspension and a decent sized tank. Dino

Love the vids Dino! I always like to get some brake cleaner and spray down that filter cage good and clean before reinstalling. And like the comment above, a little grease on the lip of the filter ensures a good seal. Stay safe and keep the rubber side down!

Initially I thought that box looks large for an air filter - then you mentioned you have other things - ha ha - all will be revealed in a future video I presume. That filter looks good quality and a better seal fit than the standard filter. Good useful video Dino as I know a couple of DR owners who have troubles with air filters. I will (again) refer them to your videos. Thankyou

Don't forget the small air filter under the seat. That needs to be cleaned and oiled along with the main filter

Yet another great how to video Dino, on what is in my opinion a very important topic. There are very few things on my DR that I do not like the design of but the air filter retaining system is one. Even though I’m a very experienced biker who has owned many dirt bikes with washable foam air filters I just don’t like the loose feel of the stock air filter when installed. It just doesn’t seem to press the sealing flange of the air filter firmly enough against the air box. I might have to give that Tusk filter a try as you mentioned that it seemed to be a tighter fit than stock.

I got one of the air filters that had the rubbery foam gaskets and it took me about 20 minutes to get that sucker in. Because the gasket part was so much denser and stiffer It was hard to tell if everything was actually lined up properly, then with my hands being oily from all the oil kept dropping stuff too😂

I do as well. I don’t think Dino rides a lot of bad roads but all my atv’s and dirt bikes get a bead of grease where it seals to the air box

Nice video, Dino. However, I'm not sure K&N filter oil is intended for foam air filters. I feel it should be an oil that is 'tackier'. Obviously, any oil in your foam filter is better than none, but it might be something to look into. My preference is the Klotz foam filter oil. YMMV. Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to do a bit of research. Growing up we just used 2 stroke oil but today there are lots of choices. I feel the k&n will work even though it is marketed for use on cotton filters, but perhaps there are better options out there. Thanks again for the input, it's appreciated Dino

The Suzuki manual calls for the same 10W40 oil used in the engine. Seems right. Logic to me says I'm not adding anything foreign to the mix when the air drawn through the oiled filter inevitably transfers a wee bit via intake.

On all filters that I service..I will put a 1/16 to a 1/8 amount of grease on the sealing lip of the filter so it (sticks) to the air box and then use the attachment method screw to hold it ..the grease help it seal and doesn't allow unfiltered air to go under it...
