Installation: TOURATECH CRASH BARS - KTM 790 ADV/ R

I’d love to see directions for the complete upper and lower crash bars, along with the Touratech skid plate. The printed directions are next to worthless and these videos don’t tie the Touratech products together. Like most people, I assumed that going with one brand of crash protection would make fitment possible, maybe even easier than a mish mash. Now I’m not so sure. I’ve never been so frustrated with the lack of directions.

Sorry the install is giving you trouble, we agree that the printed instructions leave a lot to be desired. If you are installing the Touratech Rallyeform plate the bars are easier to install than with the OEM plate since you don't need to mount that crossbar piece to the skid plate. @@TouratechUSA Thank you. Customer service has been very helpful sending me emails with correct directions, videos, photos of installations, and letting me know which pieces I don't have to use. I was getting hung up thinking that I needed to use certain pieces which were for installation without the bars and skid plate together. Now I've just been battling the side bolts for the fuel tank but I think I've turned the corner.

@@pinkiewerewolf Sounds good. Be careful not to cross thread those side bolts, on the early bikes the threaded portion on the bike is very lightly tack-welded in place. We cracked a few of those welds and had to replace the brackets on our shop bike over the years.

@@TouratechUSA That’s good advice. My neighbor came over and lended me a hand, I think I’ve got them started OK. I did have to remove the inner rubber boot on the left hand side, I just couldn’t get the bolt to line up going through the OEM spacer and the Touratech spacer for racks. Just ran in to grab a couple shorter bolts for the bottom brace that goes from the right hand foot peg to the skid plate. The bolts provided came right up against the exhaust. I’m not sure if I used the bolts that were supposed to go in there somewhere else but it is t a big deal there as any bolt and locking tap set up will work. I’m getting there. Hopefully this afternoon I can finish.

@@TouratechUSA I got the trio on the bike. Thank you for the help and customer service people via phone and email. I also put on the Touratech bar risers and fixed up my mirror situation with Touratech mirrors and mounts. The dealership had stripped the threads on the right hand side and I re-threaded it in the wrong direction I guess. I ended up buying both of the base pieces to get the direction threads that I needed. Put a 500 mile ride shakedown cruise in and I only needed to torque one of the bolts a bit more. At the end of the month I’ll fit new tires and then hit the Giant Loop Rally in Eastern Oregon. Hopefully next year I can make one of the Touratech Rallies. 👍

will these crash bars and bracket fit with a non oem skid plate ?

The Touratech Rallyeform skidplate is built to work with these bars but most other aftermarket plates will not.
