Thats how i fit and weld most all panels. It's time consuming but when you cut it that way and hammer and dolly it it makes for a super tight fit. Great job!

Never turn your back when a toddler is around tools. My youngest watched me doing panel repairs for days till he worked it out..... unfortunately he waited till the body had a gleaming coat of paint before he picked up the hammer....!

Nice work on the insert and gutters! I picked up a couple of Wheeltronics body shop lifts that are going to help a lot with setting work height of parts and bodies. I might weld casters on one of them to facilitate spinning/moving… Later!

Lookin good ... gotta love that pulmax ... you should be switching those flouresent lights to retrofit leds ... save some energy costs and improve the work area ...

THe cutting you describe creates a mitered edge so the insert panel will fit tighter into the opening. The top of the cut is slightly larger than the bottom. It is like a wedge, so is a closer fit. A fine blade makes all the difference

I give you a lot of credit Traves tig welding a panel that large is a lot of work. I tried to tig weld the other day and it didn't go well. I don't have the eye sight to do that type of work anymore. I have been reduced to mig welding sheet metal. I have been toying with using dye pent to identify pin holes in my Mig welds.
