Thanks for the video Pete! We love the variety of video's in your channel. FYI we are working on a Texas homestead gathering for next fall with a few others here in the state. We are working on location and a date. We have have more info in the months to come. It will be a couple days to meet and greet and share knowlege and fellowship and it would be great to see everyone. God bless, Mike

Thanks for the tips and tricks along the way . Fire ants , we have them too . My grandbaby got in a mess of them when she was 4 but thankfully my cousin was here and grabbed her out of it and I had the water hose already in my hand to water flowers so I rinsed her off head to toe and took her inside for some Benedryl cream .

I’m sure there’s going to be a comment somewhere here but WE found that what tends to ground out our fence is the leaves that accumulate at the bottom of the fence. we take our leaf blower and blow all the leaves inside the chicken run (because of course the chickens love that) and our fence energy will go back up to normal. Our goal is also to - someday - be able to run electricity to our coop. We lost one solar energizer to ants as well and solved that problem by putting it up on a T post. But we still need the rain barrel heater to keep our water flowing in the winter, to have electricity power both the fence and the water heater would be great!

We installed our energizer outside in the weather. Is this a concern? Not everyone has a building near the fence. I had no idea they made an on off switch box like that.

The fence energizer should be weather proof.

Hi Pete, is the 1 1/4" metal conduit that you used for you cut off switch mount, is also your grounding rod for the fence energizer? Thanks
@petebeasttexashomesteading Жыл бұрын
Correct, the conduit is acting as my ground rod and mount.

Getting it done.

This is a stupid question, but I want to rig up the same plug-in for my electric fence for my sheep, but I’m getting into winter so if I lose power at the house, I still would like to have the Solar option. Am I able to set up both of them at the same time so the Solar will be on as well and I’ll be a back up so if I lose power in the regular one, then the Solar is still there. I hope that makes sense.

I don't know if they can run simultaneously, but you could try. It's probably best to have the solar unit as backup if the power goes out.

If you are fencing livestock with the electric fencing you might change the layout as you move the animals around for grazing. This means you are using a different amount of coil length on the spoil of wire every single time you move the fence. That means you end up with a lot of spare wire still on the spool, while most of it is up on the fence? What do most people do with that excess spool and wire while its being used? I don't want to cut it off but curious what other people are doing with the slack?

That's to bad the ants took out your fence charger...they are so expensive...new one looks nice... gotta find that short & your all set

Fire ants got me quite a few times in Florida. Had to be real careful where to walk and stand. I had a company come out and spread a chemical around my property to keep them out but it was expensive for every 6 months and it was best if the neighbors had it done also.
@petebeasttexashomesteading Жыл бұрын
I would be concerned that the chemical is toxic if you're trying to grow any veggies.

Did you find the short?

The fence was shorting out on the taller grass.

@@petebeasttexashomesteading Glad you've gotten over the nasty C-19. That's not a very good way to lose weight! By the way, I would love any updates on the kittens. And your dobermans too. Love them two spoiled rotten kids! They remind me so much of Apollo and Zeus from Magnum P.I. :-)))
