Installing A New Engine In The TDI Toyota and Getting It Back On The Road! What's Wrong In 30k Miles

Getting the TDI Toyota 1.9L Diesel Swap back on the road with a new engine and other upgrades while it was out. Testing a pilot bearing instead of a bushing to see if we can save the ACME adapter that seems to be misaligned. Also going over issues and things I've changed after 2 years and 30-40K miles on the road!

you should probably add rubber isolators to the radiator. my thought is since the frame can and will flex, that you've probably flexed the aluminum a good bit from that. all rad's I've ever used have all had isolators that have around ~1/8-1/4" of rubber surrounding, then washers to keep the bolts coming though. happy to see this still going!

Yes I'm thinking you are right, I need to change my boost piping to accommodate more space for the radiator they're almost about touching as it is

Just found your channel! I too live in WY, but on the other side of the state from you. Would you do a swap for someone? I can't tell if you do outside word of if this is just a personal channel. Im doing a project on my grandpa's 87 Toyota 2wd that I bought from my Grandma after he died....hadn't even had his first oil change yet! (134K now) I'm converting it over to 4x4 as 2wd isn't of much use in Wyoming! I doubt I have the talent to do the swap myself. I'm not interested in "rolling coal", but rather fuel milage. We had an 06 Jetta TDI which I LOVED but the wife thought selling it for a 20mpg 4Runner was a good idea! SMH. I plan to run 31" tires. If I could have my Toyota run/drive like my Jetta but get 30+ mpg I'd be very happy!

Sounds like a memorable build man! Ya these are all personal builds currently, I hope to be financially stable enough to do them in a few years for customers but I'm not there yet.

What would be the most reliable daily driver alh or bew automatic swap to do in your opinion? Which transmission and chassis? Looking into one day doing a swap for my mom and sister. They really don't care for manual much We do black diesel so that's the main motivation behind it being diesel

The lightest strongest auto is the AW4 out of a jeep, or A340 I think is in the Toyota. In a jeep Cherokee or Toyota would be the lightest/easiest for MPG, but with a standalone TCM or manually shifting like my Dakota will be, you can about put it in anything.

Does this transmission have shift solenoids and you were going to manually shift by wiring up switches to control the shift solenoids? @@rossconverse9067 Yes you can control the aw4 with 2 toggle switches but the sequence can be a bit confusing, thus I will use this rail slider to simplify driving for my wife. and thanks! www.radesignsproducts.com/rail-controller.html

I have a similar toyota truck and am looking for 18" rims, what size are those? what are they from?

Those are 18x9" rockstar wheels, I believe just for a Chevy pickup, they were black originally

Really depends on how much you want to replace with new and how many mods you want, a very basic swap can be as little as $2k or even less if you reuse a lot of parts
