Thanks Barry. I look forward to your video on the door seals. The doors never seems to close right when new ones are installed.

I had trouble when I installed new door seals on my truck. 2 months in the Texas heat and they close like factory seals again.

Lookin great!! Just a note adn it up to the installer, but I do use 2" tape on sides so glue is "contained" while putting on. Pull tape once ready to install the gasket. (i also add little bit glue to the gasket too and let them "flash" then they stick really good like contact cement) no mess...or should I say little less mess ;) Just a thought but man it looking great!!

came out nice. glad you decided to butt the gasket at the latch. most likely place for it to leak is where the gasket butts together and least likely place for that to happen is at that latch because the trunk overhangs. all the water in the trunk channel should drip off on the sides. you're gonna have to find you another car to do soon :p

Great videos. Lots of tech tips to make a perfect job. Thanks a bunch. I have a question. I replaced the outer door skins on a 1967 Mustang. I need the dimension between the outer and inner panel at the rear of the vent window. These doors were previously skinned so I have no previous reference. Thank you for your help.

I just did this on my 67 stang a few weeks ago. That adhesive can be messy with strings and so on. As you have shown it is not a hard install. Cleaning the trunk lid after pulling the old one off was the hardest part.

Nice work, it's always a pain in the keister trying to keep the seal from rolling back up, no telling how long it was in the package for. Came out perfect though 👍👍

Very good video and you were spot on on the instructions. My only complaint was the audio, for me anyway, as it was a little difficult to understand what you were saying because of the echo effect. Paint booth isn't best area for recording sound. Of course, my being half deaf doesn't help either.

I understand. Booths have terrible acoustics.

The last time I did this, the seal was apparently coated with a release agent and the adhesive didn't stick to the seal. It should be wiped with solvent before installation.

I have always called that adhesive Gorilla Snot as the yellow stuff well looks like it could be... Could be worse could be using Pro Seal fuel tank sealer...

Looks great. I appreciate your comments about not stretching and how to join ends.Showing how to do it sure helps me. Question, how did you finish the trunk latch? (Bare metal and clear coat?) Thanks
@JoDaddysGarage3 жыл бұрын
It was bare metal originally. Going to leave it that way.

Ugh... Weatherstrip adhesive is second only to anti-seize in the mess it can make. Looks like you made it out unharmed though! Looking great!

You guessed wrong on the installation of the seal. The smaller side of the seal is the one you should have glued down. The seal sits on the uplifted metal parts of the trunk frame on the front and sides. The rear of the trunk frame is flat. Therefore, you have to think upside down...which is somewhat counter-intuitive. The longer rubber on the downside of the seal (once the trunk is put back on) provides a more secure water barrier between the imperfect surfaces. The way you did it may work, but it is not correct. Check the imprint on the rubber after the trunk has been closed for a while.

Is that "Astec Aqua" color? If so, that's the exact color on the '69 Fastback I'm restoring and you don't see it very often. ;-)

@@JoDaddysGarage Thanks for the reply.....Ford probably just changed the "name" of the color because it looks exactly the same as Aztec Aqua for '69.

After this weatherstrip was installed on my 67, the trunk no longer latches on the hinge to close. What can I do to fix it?
@JoDaddysGarage5 ай бұрын
You can adjust the latch height on the tail panel. It sometimes takes a bit of force to make it close. The seal may need time to collapse properly.
@ElPinche975 ай бұрын
@@JoDaddysGarageI will try to adjust the latch! Didn’t think of that. I had my interior guy install it for me and he said the trunk wouldn’t close again and I’ve tried using force but I didnt want to cause any dents. Ill see what happens thank you

I put a new seal on my deck lid just like this. Now my lid won't go all the way down. No matter how much I adjust it.
