Hi, Using the strings to lightly hold the neck in a position is not a bad idea but measuring the string position made me smile. Particularly if your bridge is out of wack? Use a smaller clamp, maybe a G Clamp and hold the neck plate neck and screws can be started to drive in part way. Run a piece of thin string or white cotton up the centre of then neck. Run it so it passes centre of of neck dits and is so easy to tie off centre of the bridge. Don't mess with your strings generally as the ends will get gnarled. Could be your neck needs a shim or the pickguard needs a little re fit around the neck heel. So don't mess up strings unless you know your work is perfect! Clamp it tight try and see if the screws are a good fit. IT they are old holes a few drops of superglue in them will solve that problem. If too tight to turn run a pilot drill in once to see it that help. Good Luck

Hello. It worked perfectly the way I did, but thank you very much for your tips for my next project. I used old strings for that job. Best regards.

This is how I have done it in a the past. There is an old Stu Mac video I have, How to Assemble a Bolt on Guitar. They use a wooden block drilled on a drill press as a guide.

Ok so what is the neck heel is a 21 fret rounded heel and the neck pocket is flat? These are both Telecaster. So how do I make it fit?

What is the name of that tool you used to make sure the bolt holes were drilled at 90 degrees...? Where did you get that...? (2:27)

Great job here! What is the rule as regards making a hole for the neck screws ? Thx

What kind of clamp are you using in this project? Attaching the neck which still needs the holes drilled seems a little tricky what with alignment so want to make sure i have all the tools I need.

I'm using a spreader clamp, like this: canadiantire.scene7.com/is/image/CanadianTire/0572578_1?defaultImage=image_na_EN&fmt=jpg&fit=constrain,1&wid=573&hei=499

Do the pickups have to be installed before the neck can be installed and properly aligned?
@gugarl4 жыл бұрын
You can also install the neck before the pickups.

If there a no pre-drilled holes for the bridge OR the neck (on Muslady tele kit you drill every hole except tuner pegs), which do I measure and drill first to assure the neck, bridge and strings are centered? The bridge? If so, do I estimate the center line based on a neck/pocket that has enough play to pivot just a little bit? Do I install the neck first to run a line from the nut down the center, but not being 100% sure the bridge will be square with everything else? Do I temporarily clamp the neck to the body, then square the bridge and mark all of the bridge and neck holes?

Hey been thinking about the same sort of thing. Ive never put a guitar together before, but I would mark a centre line along the body and then clamp a long straight edge to the centre line. Then sit the neck in the pocket and line the fret dots (or a marked centre up the neck) with the clamped straight edge. Clamp the neck in place and drill. Screw neck to body and then mark out the scale length from edge of nut and/or 12th fret to the bridge allowing some movement of the saddles (ie put saddles in a centre position) and hey presto .....well seems theoretically correct to me and heck Im gonna do just that once the body and neck arrive. Wish me luck...cos its only £500 down the drain if Im wrong
