I have been looking about for this info for the last couple years*... the other day, I caved and got the TPM module (the very same one). So I searched for installing it... and THIS video was the one that came up! Funny part is... I have *exactly the same board! Wahoo! This just put the last piece in place. *Much* appreciated.

I was so pleased to find this solution to my problem. Alas, it didn't work! I have new PC with an Asus A520M-K board, which is not on the Windows 11 Supported List on the Asus website. The answer to FAQ 5, regarding TPM modules, states: "If your motherboard is not listed on support list, it means your motherboard does not meet the minimum requirements to support windows 11 even though you install other TPM 2.0 module (Card) on your motherboard." So it seems you need to check the Supported List before wasting your hard-earned on a module that will get you nowhere.

Oh wow! I have read Microsoft keeps adding new requirements for 11 beyond just needing a TPM 2.0 module. As far as I remember, Asus didn’t list that quote on FAQ 5 when I made this video! Thanks for the information and sorry that just adding a TPM 2.0 didn’t work for you!

The manual for this board doesn't mention TPM and it isn't listed on the B550 chipset isn't mentioned on the Asus Windows 11 Supported Motherboard page [ www.asus.com/microsite/motherboard/ASUS-motherboards-Win11-ready/ ] Sadly, I think you're out of luck if you want to install officially supported Windows 11. There's a myriad of guides on KZbin for getting around the various requirement checks so you can install Windows 11 anyway. I personally do not like installing an operating system with workarounds because eventually, Microsoft will most like add some feature that will brick the installation on that hardware. Sorry I am unable to provide a more positive answer.

Sadly, the H81M-E does not have TPM, only the A model. And I don't think even the A model has TPM 2.0, which is required. According to the manual, the TPM connector is next to the SATA ports on the right bottom of the motherboard. It’s actually a 13 pin connector. But you don’t need a hardware TPM. In your BIOS, go into advanced mode and look for PCH-FW Configuration and make sure it’s enabled. It should be by default but if you’re getting some kind of TPM not present kind of warning, it may be disabled.

I found out the hard way that even if the generic ones you get on amazon have the correct amount of pins, they can still be incompatible if the pinout is different. Make sure you check the diagram from the listing and compare it to the diagram in your motherboard's user manual

@@coltmccoy1195 This is just a guess because I can’t see your setup but…The TPM module could be bad or need to have its BIOS flashed to a newer version. (I’ve never flashed a TPM BIOS but I have seen forum posts where users have had to do it to get their modules working.) Given how hard they are to come by, I’m assuming you don’t have another TPM to try. Or it could be the wrong module for your board. I think there are incompatible modules with the same connector key. Sorry this is so vague but this is difficult thing to troubleshoot with limited details.

No. Different motherboard manufacturers have different chips. And often, a single manufacturer (e.g. Asus) may have different chips for different models of their own board. Your motherboard manual will tell you which one that’s compatible with your model.

From looking at the manual for your board, it is a TPM 14-1, so yes it *should* be the exact same one I used. Note that I have not actually tried it with a Tuf Z370 Pro Gaming board, but it’s the same manufacturer (Asus), chipset, and TPM pin out so I’m 95% sure it’ll work. @@louismaniscalco1389 I’m glad the TPM worked. I have heard of machines where you still can’t upgrade because there is at least one device on the machine is not fully supported. I figure it MS can’t get their own hardware fully supported at launch that any of us that have a fully supported machine are just lucky! I got it on Amazon and paid around $70 for it (I think). I tried going through some other suppliers who had it closer to the normal MSRP of about $25, but they always cancelled my order after a few days saying they were unable to fulfill the order because the factories were unable to make enough chips. This was all right around the pandemic. I think a lot of the supply shortage has subsided.

@@connerscott249 I can’t say for certain they’re all the same, but I think if the TPM is for your brand of motherboard and the pin out is the same it should work. I saw somewhere the actual chip on these is almost exclusively manufactured by Infineon. The TPM I used indeed had an Infineon chip on it. As for the price differences, I think that’s a supply and demand issue. Almost nobody bought these things before. They were $5-$8 I think. When some people figured out Windows 11 required TPM, they bought them all up and jacked up the price. I paid $37 for mine. The $60-$80 price tag is just straight-up scalping.

I’m surprised an AIO doesn’t have TPM. I used to have some clients that always bought AIOs. Most of the time, I had to buy a whole new unit when there was a major issue or they needed to upgrade. One model I installed had upgradable RAM but that was it. They did make for a clean work area and my clients always had fancy mice and keyboards hooked to them.

Now, after three years, do you still use it? I know many people who, once the Windows 10 support ends, are switching to Linux. These days (January 2025), many Windows 10 users I know don't have the budget to buy new hardware, and from what is available, we can't tell if the processors will self-destruct if you buy Intel 13th and 14th generation CPUs. If you don't use specific software suites that are only on Windows, you can switch to Linux and use one of the many free and open source alternatives available. Your computer will operate more efficiently without the unnecessary components that Microsoft includes in Windows 11, as well as the bugs and security vulnerabilities that plague the operating system.
